As you can all imagine Parwich Wakes is going to look a little different this year but we still wanted to mark the occasion before we are back with a bang in 2021. Therefore the Parwich Carnival and Recreation Committee have put together a small programme of events for the Wakes Saturday and activities for you to take part in at your leisure throughout the week. We are working closely with the Sycamore, Legion and Odd Fellows so if government rules change and as more things are confirmed we will let you know.
Just to keep everyone in the loop the Parwich Carnival and Recreation Committee are not going to make any decisions on the Wakes Programme up until the last minute! We will follow all of the government guidelines around COVID-19 and depending on the situation Wakes may look a little different this year but if we are permitted then we will work closely with the Odd Fellows, Legion and Sycamore and we are are hopeful that some sort of programme can be achieved. It’s a watch this space scenario and if we are allowed with the help of the Community we will do the best we can to make it the best we can.
Stay safe and well Parwich Carnival and Recreation Committee
The Parwich Carnival and Recreation Committee AGM was due to take place on Thursday 2nd April. We have taken the decision to postpone this till further notice. We will keep abreast of the situation and keep planning Wakes as best we can. If you have any questions or suggestions please contact lucywigley@googlemail.com
The Parwich Carnival and Recreation Committee would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very merry Christmas and a happy new year. We had a lovely evening on Monday singing Christmas Carols (mostly in tune?!) with Ashbourne Town Band, a perfect end to our years events – we were even joined by our very own Christmas donkey! (thanks Jess and Ben). We would also like to thank Rob for the delicious mince pies, Tarmac for our lovely village Christmas tree and Barbara and Alan for the electric. Finally we would like to thank everyone who has supported our events and everyone who has helped out throughout the year we couldn’t do it without you. Here’s to a happy, healthy and fun 2020!
The Carnival and Recreation Committee would like to thank everyone who came along and supported the bonfire this year. It was a great evening helped by loud fireworks, curry and chips and a break from the rain (thankfully it isn’t tonight). Your support is invaluable in keeping these events going.
An extra special thank you to everyone who helped build and light the bonfire and to Roy and David for an excellent job raking the site clean.
The Parwich Carnival and Recreation Committee are starting to work hard on putting together the Wakes programme for 2020 but we need YOUR help! We are keen to revamp the latter end of the week – mainly Thursday/Friday and we are also keen to make sure we are offering activities which appeal to the older children and young at heart in the village.
If you have any ideas on what events/activities we could offer then please email us atlucywigley@googlemail.comand we will very happily discuss them. We are a very very small Committee so if you are also able to help organise a new event then that would be very gratefully appreciated.

Parwich Carnival and Recreation Committee are pleased to announce that we will be holding Christmas Carols on the Green on Tuesday 17th December at 7.30pm. Music will be provided by Ashbourne Town Band.
Well that’s the end of another fun-filled Wakes. We hope you all enjoyed it as much as we did. We really want to keep these events going and we can’t do it without you so a big THANK YOU from the Carnival and Recreation Committee to everyone who helped out and joined in. Especially those who gave up so much of their spare time to keep everything going – you know who you are.
If you have any suggestions for next Wakes or a village event please get in touch with us at lucywigley@googlemail.com. We would also really like new members to join our small Committee so if you are interested just drop me an email or have a chat with one of the Committee members.
We have a record number of stalls coming to our Village Market on Saturday so make sure you pop along from 10am on the Green. There will be all sorts of cakes, jams, bric-a-brac, tombolas, face painting, cushions and doggy delights so grab yourself a bargain and something delicious all at the same time.
Save room for an ice cream too as the ice cream van will be on the Green from 5.30pm on Saturday and 11.30am on Parsons Croft on Sunday.
