Diary Updates Please

We are updating the Diary page next week, so if you have any Alsop, Ballidon, Parwich or Pikehall events (July, August & September) that you want to go in the Diary in time to be included in the Peak Five Churches Magazine’s July/August issue, please send them in by Wednesday evening (24th June). Please note that their is no separate August issue, so the Magazine’s readers will only get advance warning of September events if the are included in this issue.

Including our Diary in the Church magazine is important as it helps you reach some of those who are not on-line.

Please send Diary information to parwich@hotmail.co.uk or give it to me (Peter T tel. 287).

Thank you, Peter

Tudor Farming Day

Gadzooks! It’s the Great Tudor Farming Day!

Families are invited to journey back in time to experience a day during the reign of Henry VIII at the Great Tudor Faming Day, in the Dove Valley, on Sunday July 5.

The event runs from 12pm until 4pm at the Dove Valley Environmental Centre, Under Whitle Farm, at Sheen near Longnor. The event is paid for by donations.

Peak District National Park ranger Lynn Burrow, one of the organisers, said: “If you fancy yourself as a bit of a Henry, or perhaps a beautiful Anne Boleyn, come and join us in 1537. You will meet the Horobyn family and share the everyday lives of these good country folk.”

Children can dress in Tudor outfits and have a go at 16th century crafts including spinning, weaving, cooking, and reed light making. They can join in with farming, hedging, and ploughing.

Families can watch a play, meet a Tudor quack (doctor), learn a traditional Tudor dance, write with a quill or take a tour of Tudor landscape and wildlife. There is also chance for people to discover how to research their own local history.

The event is coordinated by Elspeth Walker of the Dove Valley Environmental Centre and run mainly by volunteers.

People should bring a packed lunch (drinks will be available) and wear clothing suitable for a day outdoors. Wellies will be needed if it has rained the night before to avoid getting wet legs from long grass.

The postcode for the Dove Valley Centre is SK7 0PR, or ordnance survey map reference SK107 635 (near Sheen).

More information is available from 01298 84992 or 01298 83282, or by visiting www.peakdistrict.gov.uk or http://www.dovevalleycentre.co.uk

Visit Peak District and Derbyshire have sent in the following information:

Lovers of life on two wheels can pedal at a leisurely pace or take to the fast lane during the second Peak District & Derbyshire Summer of Cycling from June to August 2015.

Centrepiece of this year’s celebrations will be the three-day life, style and cycling festival Eroica Britannia, billed as ‘the most handsome festival in the world’, from June 19 to 21.

Around 3,500 cyclists from all over the UK and around the world are set to don retro gear and take to pre-1987 bikes for this year’s race on Sunday June 21, passing through some of the finest Peak District landscapes and villages en route.

Bakewell Showground, in the heart of the Peak District, will once again host three days of fabulous fun for all the family, including live music, more than 200 vendors, acres of vintage shopping, a specialist food festival and a wealth of activities and experiences.

This Year at Tissington

Yesterday, Ascension Day, saw the start of this year’s Tissington Well Dressings. Thank you John F-S for these photos:

Despite yesterday’s hold ups on the A515, let’s hope Tissington has an excellent time. The Dressings remain in place until next Wednesday.

We have received the following update from Parwich Royal British Legion:

On Friday 8th of May, Parwich Royal British Legion will be remembering the 70th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. We would like to invite members and non-members to come and join us at the Legion as we mark this occasion.

At 7.45 pm we will gather outside the club (inside if it’s raining), this will be followed by:

  • the Act of Homage, delivered by Fred Knight;
  • Sir Winston Churchill’s famous end of war speech;
  • King George VI end of war speech;
  •  A rendition of Land of Hope and Glory; and
  • we will conclude by playing the National Anthem.

We look forward to seeing as many people there as possible to help us mark this occasion, afterwards everyone is more than welcome to join us for a drink. Many thanks for your continued support, Carl (Club Chairman)
