Last Weekend’s Concert

The concert by the Choir of St. Mary’s Church, Nottingham here in Parwich on Saturday 13th was by all accounts a great success.  Certainly these two clips posted by Martin at YouTube increased my regret at having missed it, but then went a fair way to make up for that.

Also there is an excellent mp3 audio download at:

http://www.ashbournechurches.org/concert/download.htm

The concert was in aid of the Parwich Church restoration fund and for Help for Heroes.

Saturday’s Concert

A big thank you to all of you who supported the Choral Classics for Remembrance Concert in Parwich church on Saturday. The choir gave their services for nothing, the audience enjoyed some lovely village-supplied nibbles, and we raised almost £500 to go to the Help for Heroes Fund, and Parwich Church Restoration Fund

A chance to listen to top violinist, Tasmin Little  performing at Highfields School Matlock on Friday at 7.30pm for Matlock Music Society. Tickets are available online or from Pen2Paper in Crown Square Matlock, priced £12.

She has played with many of the world’s greatest orchestras in a career that has taken her to every continent of the world. In 2007/08 she joined the London Mozart Players as soloist and director in a tour of the UK which also featured her UK conducting debut.

In 2008, Tasmin Little was the subject of a television documentary by the prestigious South Bank Show, which followed her ground-breaking project ‘The Naked Violin’.

On Friday, Tasmin Little will play solo works intermingled with discussion on the works, her life as musician, the violins she performs on and answering questions from the audience. The programme will include –

Christopher sent the following to several people locally and has agreed to it going on the Blog:

Greetings from Nottingham –

I have mentioned to some of you that a couple of friends and I have formed a flute-cello-piano trio which will be giving a concert next Tuesday evening in Derby. The programme is entirely French – a trio by Debussy written when he was 18, a trio by Faure written when he was 77, and a rather sentimental piece by the flautist Philippe Gaubert (no, I hadn’t heard of him either, but it’s rather fun in a kind of pre-First World War way).

I think the concert is free, but you have to pay 25 pence for coffee and biscuits (see the attached programme).

This is something of a new departure for me, and it’s been great to find a very lively amateur musical environment here in Nottingham. If any of you can come that would be fantastic!

best wishes
Christopher Harrison

The real thing

Despite rumours that their tribute band the B52s were stepping in, everyone was ecstatic when the real A52s took the stage last night.

As our roving photographer commented:

What a professional looking lot.  And you’re never too young to start!”

Demotion or promotion for Parwich band?

This week’s Stunner has a couple of Parwich references; on p.5 there is a photograph of Janet behind the bar, accompanying an article on the 2011 Good Beer Guide which includes an entry on the Sycamore Inn.

Also on p.7 there is a short article about this Saturday’s official opening of the new Memorial Hall, including a concert by the B52s.  Does this mean that the Highways Agency has down graded the band, or have they changed their name to fit in with the Memorial aspect of the Hall?

Y-Not Festival 2010.

The atmosphere as soon as we arrived reminded me of those impromptu last-minute parties that end up being the ones you still talk about with misty-eyed nostalgia. People here were all laughing, playing, and dancing with genuine gay abandon, there was…something…different going on here. I couldn’t quite put my finger on it. But I REALLY liked it.

Click here to read a full -and very positive – report of this year’s Y-Not Festival, as posted by the Nottingham arts and entertainment magazine LeftLion.

The Summer Music

Thank you to John F-S for these photos taken at last Saturday’s concert by the de Parys Trio (Eric Hill on guitar, Jill Hughes on flute and Martin Hughes on violin).

With a range of music, including Bach, Gluck, Paganini, Carulli, Rossini and others, there was something for everyone from classical through romantic to tango and jazz.  Though numbers were a little down on last year the evening could hardly have been better.  The only fly in the ointment was a potential clash with the musical neighbours, but they generously suspended activity ’til the concert was over.
