Here at PARWICH.ORG we though it would be worth highlighting this section from this week’s Parwich Primary School Newsletter in case there are any of our readers who do not normally read the Newsletter that may be able to help:

When we are planning teaching and learning in school we try to ensure that the resources and materials we use will engage and excite the children and encourage them to want to learn and develop new skills. And that got me wondering what skills and talents do we have in the community that we could bring into school?

Mike H and Lesley G supported the development of the garden, Peter T and Ian P led a ‘History of Parwich’ day, Robert S supported our sports teams, Fraser H enabled the development of the ‘Celebration Garden’ and enabled us to purchase the orchard and the willow tunnel, Helen P led a series of sessions with the Health and Safety Laboratory and taught us about Japan and Reverend Larkin leads the ICT Club.

But what other hidden gems are out there amongst our parents, grandparents, friends and families? What could you offer either as a one-off workshop or a series of sessions, perhaps we could offer something to you?

Please do contact school if you are able to get involved:

Suspicious incident outside school

Today (23.01.12) at approximately 3.20pm a white VW van was spotted driving past the school with a man in the passenger seat videoing the school. The incident and registration number have been reported to the police and to the houses near to school; Incident Number: 509. Can I please ask that the community reports any suspicious activity IMMEDIATELY to the police on telephone number 101 quoting the incident number. No works are planned on the school building outside of our normal working day and therefore anything out of the norm should be reported as detailed above.

Thank You

Caroline Rodgers – Headteacher

Following the successful pilot scheme, the Peak District Award is now open to any schools, within the National Park and beyond, and is suitable for all ages and abilities. To gain the Peak District Award, participants must complete a study plan and keep a record of what they have done to show others, for example, a diary, scrap book, video or a blog.

We are looking for individuals, families or groups to complete the award during National Park’s Week, Monday July 30 to Sunday August 5. If you are up for the challenge contact the Award Team to find out more.

For more information or to apply for the award contact the Award Team on 01433 620373 or learning.discovery@peakdistrict.gov.uk

Peak District youngsters are showing they know what is special in the National Park by achieving a new award.  The Peak District Award celebrates people’s knowledge of the Peak District National Park’s special qualities, such as its wildlife, plants and local history.

It has been introduced by the Peak District National Park Authority to encourage people to find out about the place and earn recognition for their achievements. (more…)

Head teacher Caroline Rodgers writes:

I need to remind some parents and inform our new parents what to do in the event of snow!

The decision to close school is never taken lightly; several factors dictate such measures, the health and safety of our children and staff is a priority, given the remote setting of the village. The decision is made through discussion with our Chair of Governors.

If it snows overnight, please tune into BBC Radio Derby (104.5 FM), check their website or tune into Ashbourne Radio (96.7 FM) to hear if school is closed.

If you hear nothing, assume school is open and we will be expecting your child.

It is more difficult when it starts snowing during the day. Usually some of our parents, who live out of the village or high up, give us some warning that things are getting bad. Once a decision is made to send children home, we will contact you by phone, then you or a representative must come and collect the children.

Please make sure that your details held here at school are up to date. In these days of voicemail and answer phones, it has become more difficult for us to contact parents quickly. Please make sure, you tell us how we can get hold of you quickly.
