- p3. Keeping with the traditional name – A ‘new’ name for the hospital, but Mrs V Wright from Parwich who submitted two names is quoted as saying, “If that’s what people want then fair comment, but it’s a shame a new building hasn’t got a new name….”.
- p5. Compost fire firm wins ‘green’ award – Vital Earth which of course has Parwich links through Mr Robert Shields, has won the International Green Hero Award and will now be automatically put forward in European Business Awards for the Environment. A spokesman for the judges said that they were not aware of the fire incident, but this would not have necessarily affected their decision if they had known.
- p6. Strictly star Tom drops by for a school lunch – Tom and Claire called in to S. Anselm’s School on his way to the Sheffield Arena (he was dancing with other stars from “Strictly”), he saw his niece and nephews before joining them for lunch, which was “excellent”.
- p6. Dancing in flowers theme – “Strictly Come Dancing”, won by Tom Chambers from Parwich, has inspired Carsington village to base their flower festival on this theme, the event will be held from Saturday May 16th for 6 days.
- p10. Cyberscouts get back on the trail – Derbyshire Dales Cyberscouts, who meet 9 times a year, started their year off with some traditional activities. Around the campfire the A52’s performed and children from Parwich were involved. Anyone interested in joining should ring 348444. We will be doing a feature blog on this in the very near future.
- p16. New drive to be decided – The PDNP is now ready to proceed on a decision regarding a planning application for a new access drive at The Old Barn, Pikehall
- p44. Panthers have to settle for point – In the junior football Tom Goldsworthy gets a mention for his play in the Mayfield Panther U11 draw against Stretton Swifts – ‘ when they (the Panthers), did strike, it was in spectacular fashion with Benjo Lourie & Tom Goldsworthy quickly exchanging passes, before Tom made space for a spectacular finish from the edge of the penalty area.
- p46. Parwich Edge to victory at Denstone – J Edge for Parwich Legion hit 11 registers during the match in which they won 5-4. Parwich Legion A although losing 3-6 to Tiger Cubs had B Upton and J Hotchin both with 4 registers for The Legion.
