I hope our own A52s don’t mind that we have brazenly lifted the following from their Facebook page:

The band is playing on home territory this Saturday (2nd July). Parwich Wakes is starting and a week of fun is about to start!

We will be playing on The Green starting around 9pm. For one night only we will be joined by guest drummer Alex Martin. Here’s a moody promo pic so you can see just what a cool bunch we are.

Programme of Events – Saturday 11th June 2016 on Parson’s Croft

Staged in Conjunction with Parwich Parish Council

THIS EVENT IS FREE AND OPEN TO ALL – SEE YOU THERE

2.00 pm Official Welcome

2.15 pm Cutting of the Birthday Cake & Toast to Her majesty the Queen, followed by the National Anthem

There will then be a choice of games & activities including Tennis, Bowls, Turbo Swing Ball, Rounders, and Volleyball

3.30 pm Judging of the Crown Competition by Nina Martin (see below)

The judging will be followed by the presentation of prizes to the winners of each class and to the winners of the Birthday Card Competition (The children at Parwich School have been designing birthday cards for the Queen. The two winning cards will, by June 11th. have been sent “From Parwich Village” to Her Majesty at Buckingham Palace).

4.00 pm Continuation of the games.

A Barbeque will be provided free of charge, but please bring your own liquid refreshments.

To help with ordering drinks for the toast and catering needs, if you intend attending please complete the slip posted through your letterbox or e-mail Lucy Maddocks (lucywigley@googlemail.com), or sign up on one of the lists in either the British Legion or the Sycamore.

9.30 pm Firing of rockets from the summit of Parwich Hill

 

Design and Make a Crown Competition

  • Saturday 2nd July- Wakes Saturday – Procession, Village Market, Carnival (to name just a few of the events happening over the day)
  • Sunday 3rd July – Fun and Games with the Campers followed later in the day with the Treasure Hunt and BBQ
  • Monday 4th July – Children’s Sports
  • Tuesday 5th July – Annual Hill Race
  • Thursday 7th July – Children’s Film Night
  • Friday 8th July – Race Night including the Ball Race and Strength Tester.

Another great Wakes week is over. A very big thank you to The Carnival & Recreation Committee, the OddFellows, the Legion, the Sycamore Inn, the Church, the Memorial Hall and everyone who put so much hard work into making things run so smoothly. It is also the busiest time of year for us here at parwich.org, and indeed Thursday was our busiest day ever. In the Junior Hill Race there were 38 runners, both local and from further a field. The overall winner, C Amos, repeating his vicory, came in 1 second faster than he did last year.

Parwich Hill Race

A beautifully sunny evening and a line up of 57 runners, saw a close race with a tie for ‘first to the top of the hill’ between last year’s winner C Patterson and L Berresford. Chris went on to win this year’s race too, with a time only 20 seconds slower than last year.
