Following the post on insurance problems relating to ‘flood’ risk and the poll on interest on the possibility of specific solutions for our area, the insurance brokers, the Wilson Organisation, are holding a surgery at the Sycamore Inn from 5pm on Tuesday 11th May.  Email CProw@wilorg.com to book a slot.

Many of you will have seen the recent article on this subject on the Parwich Village website and several of you have expressed an interest in discussing your insurance needs with an independent insurance broker, either in a surgery format or individually.

As a result we have arranged to come to Parwich on Tuesday 11 May and Bryan Elliott and I will be in the Sycamore Inn from 5pm onwards. The Wilson Organisation has strong relationships with many insurance companies and this means we can offer bespoke cover, which will cater for your individual circumstances, at competitive premiums. We have researched Parwich and the surrounding areas and we are confident we can help. Please come along and see us. Please email to confirm your interest and a suitable time from 5pm onwards on 11th May.

Parwich Lees Cottage‏

Happy Easter!

We’re just coming up to having been at Parwich Lees Cottage for a year now – and have not had much luck in finding out too much about the history of the property other than it was the Head Bailiff’s House for the Parwich Lees Estate. We were wondering if there’s anyone in the village that has any further information on the property or any old photographs of what it used to look like, we know it was in a state of disrepair in the 1960’s when a builder took it over and renovated it. We also know that the property was extended at some point in the recent past – and were wondering what it would originally have looked like inside and out. We discovered that there was originally a range in what is now the dining room and have exposed the original inglenook fireplace, but are a little confused as to how the rest of the house was laid out.

Any info or photos would be greatly appreciated.

Regards
Keeley

Any information emailed to parwich@hotmail.co.uk will be forwarded to Keeley (see also Parwich & District Local History website for more on the history of the area).

Hi following our posting last week regarding has ‘Anyone Found a chocolate and cream cat?’ – as some of you may have noticed by our subsequent comment we found Sasha but she’s been quite badly injured.

She’s back home now, and we’ve borrowed a puppy crate from the vets, but as she needs to be in there for approximately 6 weeks were wondering if anyone has a crate that we can borrow. The crate needs to be large enough for her bed, litter tray and food and water bowls. If anyone has one that we could borrow for this period of time that would be great.

Oil buying co-op?

The issue of an oil buying co-op in Parwich has been left a bit up in the air and there seem to be four alternatives:

  1. Have further discussion
  2. Set up a centrally organised oil buying co-op
  3. Seek external support for a local syndicate
  4. Continue with the current informal system

though unless anyone comes forward to take further action we at PARWICH.ORG suggest that we continue with Option 4.  For more details (more…)

Vacancy for part-time groom

We have a vacancy for a part time groom/yard person. The hours are four hours on Wednesdays and Sundays.  The vacancy is to cover someone on sick leave for about four months but could possibly be for longer.

The job involves mucking out stables, rugging up horses and leading them in and out to fields. The applicant would need to be confidant handling large horses. The ability to smile in the face of adversity, snow, wind and rain would be welcome. The upside is a good sun tan in the summer.

If you are interested then please phone for more details.  Alice Beasley 390206

Possible oil buying co-op

Updated 2nd Feb: Since posting the information below, Karen Carpenter has offered to ring round different Oil Suppliers to get an overview of how various companies would work with local syndicates.  Rather than having only one company attending the meeting, Peak Oil will be asked for their ideas, but not invited to the meeting.

A Peak Oil representative has asked Karen Carpenter (Derbyshire Dales District Council) if he could attend the open meeting at the Sycamore Inn on Thursday 11th Feb.  She contacted me as the only member of the Blog Team whose phone number she had.  We both felt that he may have useful information to share, but obviously it is essential that any co-op is not tied to any specific company.  Consequently he will be offered a slot near the start of the meeting but will be asked to leave for the main discussion.

However, if anyone else has strong views on a company rep. attending the meeting please leave a comment, contact Karen Carpenter or email parwich@hotmail.co.uk.

Grey cat found

Has anyone lost a smokey grey cat (young male)? The cat looks well cared for, and has obviously not been out in the wild for any length of time.

I noticed a cat miaowing outside our door last night, and it didn’t want to go away. I let it in, in case it had been abandoned. It stayed overnight, even though we have a cat flap where it could have gone out. I put the cat out this morning when I went to work, and have come back this evening and it’s still here.

Does anyone own, or know who owns this cat – please contact the website (parwich@hotmail.co.uk ) to be re-united with your cat.

Thanks for your help.

Keeley

Hi, as a family we have had 2 wonderful summer holidays in Parwich and quite a few nights in the pub and British Legion! I regularly log on to your site to keep in touch with what’s going on in Parwich.

I will be staying in Cowdale for a week’s holiday from the 6th March and I was wondering if any of your residents would be interested in joining me for walks in Parwich and the surrounding area? I’m not too familiar with the peaks so someone with knowledge of the area would be ideal. I’m pretty fit, so distance is not an issue.

I would be thankful if you could find a small place for my advert on your wonderful website?  Many thanks  Derek 07888693692 or email me at desneale@sky.com

Child’s ski jacket sought

Does anyone local happen to have a warm water/snow/windproof ski jacket (doesn’t matter how well used) to fit a five year old, that they would be happy to lend for a few weeks, please?

Our grandson has come over from Australia and is due to go skiing next month and we don’t reckon the little fleece he brought with him (it’s sweltering in Sydney at the moment) will be quite up to it.… We have scoured the charity shops (thanks, Debs) very successfully for everything else, but have failed completely to find a jacket.

We’d be very grateful for any offers – do phone us on 519.

Thank you so much.

Does anyone have a home for Dodo?

Duoduo (pronounced “Dodo”) is an eight month
old pedigree Yellow Labrador, who currently lives
in Nottingham.

Sadly, her current owner is unable to keep her.
She is therefore in need of a good, loving
home and would no doubt enjoy the fields
around Parwich.

She is fully house trained, but could do with
additional puppy training.

Her current owner wants to ensure that
she goes to the right home and does not
want any money for her, provided she is
well looked after.

As an added bonus, Dodo’s owner is also
happy to pass on her sizeable cage, also
free of charge.

If you feel that she would fit into your family,
please contact Kevin S. via the blog team
(parwich@hotmail.co.uk) and we will put you
in direct contact with her current owner.

Update: As a result of this blog post, we have already been approached by a local family, who are interested in offering Dodo a new home. We’ll keep you posted.

Home wanted for X Box and games

Does anyone want our X Box?  It is the old version not the 360, but still works fine.

I don’t think they make new games for it anymore, but we have quite a few games you could have with it, controllers etc.   We don’t want any money for it, just don’t want to throw it away.

If no-one wants it, does anyone have any ideas what we could do with it?  I don’t think charity shops take electrical items.  I did try to join freecycle once but it was rather complicated and put me off.
