Based on the book, My Week with Marilyn, this hugely entertaining film tells of how a young but confident assistant director, Colin Clark, met Marilyn Monroe while working on Laurence Olivier’s “The Prince and the Showgirl.” When
Marilyn experienced emotional difficulties during shooting, the 23-year-old came to her aid and romance developed. But one week of honesty and fun was not enough to save the doomed star from self-destruction. Many years later he wrote Starring Michelle Williams, Emma Watson, Kenneth Branagh, Dame Judi Dench, Dominic Cooper and Derek Jacobi.

Parwich Lunch – Thank you
Posted in 2012, Catering 4 Parwich, Memorial hall, Posts of Note on Wednesday March 14, 2012| 2 Comments »
Parwich Lunch has now been running for 5 months and it is really becoming a significant date in the monthly village calendar. There is a good core of regulars and this week we welcomed some first timers, from the village, Ashbourne as well as London. More than 30 people sat down to a deliciously tasty and tender Lamb Hot Pot followed by a creamy Rice Pudding with plenty of skin for those that wanted it. There is always plenty of conversation, teasing and just a great atmosphere in the Hall over this lunchtime.
Why not come and join us next month on Monday April 16th; you really will be made to feel welcome, whether your 5, 50 or 100. All dietary requirements are catered for and the menu can be adjusted if you don’t like something: as long as Val knows in advance.
Finally what I’d really like to say is thank you, thank you to Val and Alison (Catering 4 Parwich) for the organisation, cooking and the creation of a really super occasion.
Film Night on Friday

This wonderful and moody adaption of Jane Eyre stars Mia Wasikowska, Michael Fassbender, and Dame Judi Dench, and was shot on location in many areas of our own Derbyshire, including Haddon Hall, Wingfield Manor and Stanedge.
Jane flees Thornfield House, where she works as a governess for wealthy Edward Rochester. It is clear that the isolated and imposing residence – and Mr. Rochester’s coldness – have sorely tested the young woman’s resilience, forged years earlier when she was orphaned. She must now act decisively to secure her own future and come to terms with the past that haunts her – and the terrible secret that Mr. Rochester is hiding and that she has uncovered.

Zumba
Posted in Memorial hall, Sport on Thursday February 9, 2012| 2 Comments »
Sadly we’ve just had the last Zumba class for the moment. Numbers have dropped to the point where the class is not viable for Lizzie. I am really sorry about this as I have enjoyed it so much. I am absolutely no good at dancing but it has been such a privilege to learn dance steps with a professional dancer. Zumba routines work both the body and mind. I was surprised at how hard I had to concentrate! And yes, it was sometimes an effort to get to the class but how fantastic to have yet another class arranged for us in the village! Also, I have not laughed till I cried for a long time!!

Tomorrow – Friday 13th January – 7.45pm
Taken from the book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, this is the final adventure in the Harry Potter film series. In the much-anticipated epic finale, the battle between the good and evil forces of the wizarding world escalates into an all-out war. The stakes have never been higher and no one is safe. But it is Harry Potter who may be called upon to make the ultimate sacrifice as he draws closer to the climactic showdown with Lord Voldemort. It all ends here.

The gate at the back of the Memorial Hall has been badly damaged with both hinges being sheared off.
It not now possible to properly secure the garden area thus preventing children attending Stepping Stones from using the outside space for play.
The incident has been reported to the police. The Memorial Hall Management Committee would be grateful for any information about who might be responsible for the damage.
Pea & Pie Supper + Family Quiz

Stepping Stones pre-school are holding a Pea and Pie supper and Family Quiz on Saturday 11 February at 7:30pm in the Memorial Hall.
Tickets are priced at Adults £5.50 and Children £2.50.
Stepping Stones is a registered charity and although we receive some finding for the children we do rely heavily on donations and fundraising. The pre-school is run by a very small committee of mums and we all work extremely hard to ensure that the pre-school keeps going to provide a very valuable learning environment for children of ages 2-5 from the village and surrounding farms. So your support is extremely valuable and very much appreciated.
Tickets from Tracy Fentem, Vicky Yeomans and Gill Harrison

Edmund and Lucy Pevensie, along with their cousin Eustace, their royal friend King Caspian and a warrior mouse named Reepicheep, find themselves swallowed into a painting and onto the Dawn Treader. Their mission — on which rests the fate of Narnia itself — takes the courageous voyagers to mysterious islands and a river that turns to gold, to fateful confrontations with magical creatures and sinister enemies and to a reunion with their friend and protector, the “Great Lion” Aslan.
