Sign Removed

The person who took the sign from 1 chestnut cottage last evening, you obviously didnt see the camera . I will press charges against you, unless the sign is returned to the place from which it was taken. I understand it was possibly a prank . Best return it before the boys in blue pay you a visit.

Parwich Phone Book

To add your name to the ever increasing number of people joining the Parwich Telephone Directory, please contact me on 191 or fiona@nethergreenfarm.plus.com.

This isn’t a new idea as I have recently seen a copy of an earlier edition which has been dated to between 1954 and 1958. Many of those phone numbers are still the same.

Fiona

Just to clarify, this is a paper only directory which will be made available only to those who are included in it. It will NOT be available via parwich.org

Our Scottish Independence Poll

The Poll here at parwich.org on Scottish independence provoked a vigorous response. At 3pm today (Wednesday 17th September), the results were as follows:

Do you have significant Scottish links?

  • 38% Yes
  • 62% No

Would Scottish independence impact on us here (in the Peak District)?

  • 47% Yes
  • 41% No
  • 12% Don’t know

Should Scotland be an independent country?

  • 36% Yes
  • 63% No
  • 1% Don’t know

This indicates a significant minority (38%) of our respondents have strong ties to Scotland, that overall we are split on the impact of Scottish independence on us here in the Peak District (a difference of 6%), but that a majority (63%) of us want the Union to continue. Well tomorrow is the actual referendum day and we will find out on Friday what Scotland votes.

you can still vote in this poll by clicking here.

We in the Blog Team thought it might be interesting to know our readers thoughts on the possibility of Scottish independence and whether you think it could impact on our small part of the Derbyshire Peak District.

Is Scotland significant in your personal or work life (eg Are you from Scotland? Have you lived there or plan to live there in the future? Do you have property or investments in Scotland? Do you have family there? Is your work linked to Scotland? … … …)

If Scotland votes ‘Yes’ to leaving the United Kingdom, do you think it will make any difference to our life here in the Peak District?

How would you cast your vote if you could take part in the Scottish referendum?

Car parks review process gathers pace

Several early provisional ideas have been dropped in response to public opinion as the process gathers pace to introduce a new car parks policy for the Derbyshire Dales by 1 January next year.

Derbyshire Dales District Council has now scrutinised extensive feedback from local residents, visitors, stakeholder groups and the trading community in a review process, including extensive public consultation, which began at the start of this year. (more…)

Dog on Loose

Once again the cocker spaniel from Rathbone Hall is on the loose and has been in my hens. It had a hen in its mouth and was last seen running off towards Church Walk. I am missing a number of hens which have scattered. If anyone sees a hen or is able to catch the dog please can you let me know.

Thanks

WARNING – Road conditions

Thank you to Graham for this:

Roads this morning:

The Dale road very treacherous and probably not a sensible option in 2WD although it was probably more tricky going down than up – I  passed one car that had skidded off and been abandoned – just checked there was nobody still in it as the air bags had obviously gone off.

Lower part of the A515 from Mount Pleasant to K&H was dangerous, especially on the hills – compacted slush which had iced over- didn’t look like it had been gritted. North of there through Lean Low was fine – this had been gritted.

Take care on high routes.

The following Christmas parking concession has been announced by DDDC. It takes effect from 1st December.

“Free parking from 2pm throughout December comes on top of residents’ parking concessions which allow local people to park free every day of the year up to 11am and after 4pm. So, over the Christmas period, Dales residents have free parking for 21 hours each day (before 11am and after 2pm).  The aim is to help local people and local traders.”

Free parking extends to midnight each day and motorists are reminded not to leave anything valuable in their vehicles as the lead up to Christmas can also be a choice time for thieves.

A “thank you” from Mike

May I express a huge thanks to those who responded so generously to my cry for help with the loan of a Dell Laptop electrical power supply. I had a prompt response from a number of people and my computer was soon back in action. This demonstrates both the generosity of the folk in the village and also the enormous value of the village blog, so thanks are also due to the administrators of the blog.

Another Pile of Pooh!

Lo and behold! Again a pile of dog faeces in exactly the same place as the last two ‘sightings’ on Creamery Lane near the small green!

I had become quite optimistic after my last ‘doggie-fouling’ blog post when the problem appeared to have stopped, even wondering whether the Parwich blog includes some canine readers who’d passed the message on to their fellow 4-legged friends.  Alas, my optimism was unfounded.

Whose dog was allowed to wander around between approx. 4 and 5 pm on Monday afternoon?

Please, please take responsibility for your dog and do not allow them to roam around unaccompanied or at least tidy up after them.

Thank you.

Sunshine Boost for Bowls

Parwich Crown Green Bowls Club

One win one loss this week and we actually played one match in sunshine! Glad I didn’t buy a ticket for Silverstone though.

Matlock Tuesday League.

Away – 3 July – Matlock Park.

Whist we are mid table in the league Matlock are third from top. We gave a good account of ourselves however. We won two games and Matlock won two. Their wins, however, were by bigger margins than ours. The final score was Matlock 70 Parwich 64. Hopefully we won’t drop too much in the league.

Next match – Home – Chatsworth A -10 July 6.30pm.

Thursday League.

Away – Matlock Park – 5 July.

A week or so ago we were playing Wirksworth every match now it’s Matlock Park. Having lost on Tuesday it did not augur well. No need for doubt. We won the doubles games two one and the singles games 4 to 2. The final tally was Parwich 131 to 103. A great result. We were again half way in the league. Let us hope that these last two good wins will move us up a bit.

Next match – Home – Matlock Bath – 12 July – 1.45pm.

No Sunday match again this week, because of the weather we cancelled it. It was also a shame we did not manage to have some fun on Friday night during wakes week. Better luck next year.

Debbie W, who works for the British Red Cross locally, writes:

Following the collection we had in Parwich for Red Cross Week, I just wanted to pass on a huge thank you from our Community Fundraiser, Alex Gadsby. This is what Alex had to say:

“The amounts raised in Red Cross Week via the shops have just come out. Donations for the Matlock store helped to raise a massive £270! This is amazing and I’m 100% certain it wouldn’t have been nearly as much without your support.”

Thanks very much for everyone who contributed to this worthwhile cause; I’m hoping to make it an annual event!

If anyone in the village wants to do any other type of fund raising event for the British Red Cross, I know Alex would love to hear from you.

Taxi?

I need to get a lift to Calver Bridge on Saturday, and be picked up, and before I booked a taxi, I thought it might be worth seeing if anyone from Parwich would be interested in being a “taxi service”?
It is just under 20 miles and I would pay for fuel & time.
If interested, give me a call!
