I’ve seen this pair wandering round the village since Monday and they have just been spotted trying to get to the veg in my garden. I suggest the owner rounds them up because if they’re try it again, they’re likely to be joining it on my plate!
Thank youCheryl

Plant Sale Continues
Posted in Church, Classified adverts, Gardens on Tuesday July 10, 2018| Leave a Comment »
Thank you to all who bought plants last week, just over £50 went to the Carnival & Recreation Committee. This week proceeds will go to Parwich Church. There are still a range of herbaceous plants, shrubs, kitchen garden plants and others, including a large forsythia and a large dogwood which has bright red stems in winter.
If no one is about help yourself to the plants at the gate for Church Farm in Creamery Lane and leave what you think is a fair price in the honesty box. Everything must go.

What a glorious day in the sun! The PDHS’s second trip of the year was to Quarry Bank, Styal and then Lyme Park, Disley. We enjoyed a fascinating talk at the former and then got to amble around the latter’s extensive grounds in almost Mediterranean style weather. I think I overheard someone say they had clocked almost four miles walked in total today on their pedometer, and each bloom and blossom was worth every step!

An Inspirational Talk and Slideshow about
Cascades Gardens
From Jungle to Paradise
Thank you to everyone who attended last night’s talk at the village hall. Alan Clements’ inspiring story took the audience on a journey from meeting the Dala Lama in the mid-1990s, to purchasing Cascades House in Bonsall and creating a truly magical garden, based on the concepts of Zen meditation, mindfulness, and achieving inner peace and happiness. The Horticultural Society also enjoyed sharing plants and seeds following the talk with fellow members and guests exchanging garden goodies as well as purchasing plants from Alan’s nursery at Casades Garden.
Thank you Alan Clements for his time and dedication to horticulture.

Monty’s Seed Exchange
Posted in Gardens, Two Feet on Tuesday February 13, 2018| 1 Comment »
As the days start to get longer and memories of my winter cruise sail off into the distance my attention starts to turn towards the garden once again. With Mrs Monty perusing the seed catalogs I’ve for once got in first and have received my seed order before her!
Having underestimated the number of seed potatoes in a bag I find myself with a surplus of Anyas. Anya is an early variety of potato grown exclusively for Sainsbury’s supermarkets by Albert Bartlett. Also most of the seed packets have many times more seeds than I’ll ever have room for, even allowing for failures, so as usual I’ll likely be left with rows of potted up young plants and half used packets of seeds.
I’m sure many others will be in the same position so how about a seed and plant swop and exchange? First up would anybody like to try growing a few Anyas?
If you’re interested let me know. Also if anybody has surplus seeds/plants over the next few months drop me an email via parwich@hotmail.co.uk or add a comment to my latest post.
Happy Gardening
Monty

Apple Pressing
Posted in Gardens on Monday October 9, 2017| 1 Comment »
Wondering if anyone has apples either being forgotten on trees or rotting on floor, than they didn’t mind donating to Cromford Apple Day. I’ll be there with the sister to the press in the below photo, happily making apple juice for all. On the same theme, if anyone in Parwich wants their own apples pressing into juice, just ask, Cheers Jon H
The Allotment Poll
Posted in Gardens, Parish Council on Tuesday September 5, 2017| Leave a Comment »
A few weeks ago I ran a poll on here to coincide with National Allotments Week
The poll attracted 30 responses (thank you all!) with 13 saying they would like to have an allotment in the village.
There were 2 comments that added some good information and ideas for thoses interested.
The Parish Council Clerk provided some valuable information for those interested in an allotment –
“If residents would like to rent an allotment they should write to the Parish Council. If six residents write to a Parish Council requesting provision of allotments the Council is required to formally assess the level of demand.”
Then this great suggestion came from Saskia T –
“I wondered whether a third option of a ‘Community Allotment’ should also be considered: i.e. a shared allotment that could be used by a group of residents who don’t have a veg plot and would share the produce. Other growers in the village could share excess seedlings and excess produce (especially runners beans and marrows…). And if there is enough space: a few fruit trees? Perhaps pie (or should that be ‘pumpkin’) in the sky? The suggestion originates from a visit to an amazing community allotment project in a small hamlet in Australia”
So in conclusion, anyone interested in allotments should write to the Parish Council.

National Allotments Week
Posted in Gardens, Sustainability on Monday August 14, 2017| 3 Comments »
Well if cats can have their day why not allotments!
The National Allotment Society is running this initiative to help protect, promote and preserve allotments. More information can be found here
At this point I should be asking, like with the cats, for pictures of your allotment. However as we don’t have any allotments that would be rather pointless! I can’t help looking at all those under-utilised sports fields and thinking would a corner of one of those be missed? So instead of pictures here’s a quick poll.
Two Feet Apart
Posted in Gardens, Two Feet on Monday August 14, 2017| Leave a Comment »
Having finally been reunited with my Y Not wellies and the weather looking a bit more like summer over the weekend I’ve at last managed to spend a few hours in the garden. As a sometimes keen but not so knowledgeable gardener it doesn’t take much to put me off at this time of the year. My return to the garden was just in time to bump into this little fellow –

It’s been a busy time in Parwich with both highly successful Wakes and Open Gardens. The commitees running both events do a fantastic job and deserve the thanks of us all. I found the gardens I visited during Open Gardens to be very inspiring with lots of ideas and expertese shared. I don’t remember if I learnt anything over Wakes. For more inspiration,
