What more snow!

Early this morning I opened an email to see this optimistic photo taken yesterday by JF-S, and what a beautiful day it was.  A perfect winter’s day: not a cloud to be seen.  So melting moments, below, seemed appropriate.  Unfortunately the second photo is this lunchtime’s reality.  So as long as you are staying at home, it’s fine and the children are having a fantastic time sledging.  But please do, as the previous post says,  keep the blog up to date with the road conditions.

Optimistic

As we reach the end of the year, here’s a look back at 2009’s photographic bird sightings, as captured by our ace snapper John F-S.

Our thanks to John for keeping us supplied with snaps throughout the year – and indeed to all who have sent in their photos. Please keep ’em coming!

There is a wonderful display of Christmas trees in the Church, decorated by the different societies, groups and individuals in the village.  An enormous amount of effort has gone into this and if you haven’t already been in to have a look, please do.

Remember it is the Crib Service on Thursday at 4pm, everyone is extremely welcome.

How fortunate we are.

Yesterday was the perfect autumn day – a combination of blue skies, a delightful village and a great walk which followed the route of the Parwich Panoramic Five to Alsop and back to Parwich.

Photos on the Blog

It is great that people are willing to share their local photos.  Indeed our photo archive pages are our most viewed pages, so including these photos is our most popular feature.

We have some valued regular contributors and some one-off contributors such as the post below.  We are happy to get photos from both.

We can be fairly flexible with the format and file size, but for the best results, when the photos are viewed in full screen, please send in images 800 or more pixels wide.  We can always make them smaller, but we can’t make them larger.

Although it is partly inevitable because of the larger Parwich population, we tend to get photos with a Parwich bias, so we would also welcome any of Alsop, Ballidon and Pikehall and the surrounding countryside.

Keep those photos coming.

An Autumn Walk

Thank you to the person who sent in these great photos, but modestly requested we did not publish their name:

I enjoyed a lovely walk round Parwich last Friday and thought you might like to share some of the photos I took.  I think you are so fortunate to live in such a pretty village and have such a supportive community.

A photo of Red

In response to Jean’s recent comment, here is the requested photo:

Hi Jean, this is Red about 9 months ago, he’s grown (again!) and filled out a little since then. It’s not me riding him but Rachel Lander who does a brilliant job helping me work the young horses.

“Con Trails” over Parwich

The number of aeroplanes over Parwich has gone up dramatically over the last ten years or so, but fortunately they are generally too high to be over intrusive.  Also occasionally, as in these photos taken by Mike G this morning, they create a great skyscape.

Fresh Autumn Afternoon

After the drizzly gloom of late Sunday morning, it was very uplifting to have some autumn sunshine in the afternoon – the warm breeze blew the cobwebs away very effectively. Here are some pictures taken on a walk from the village to Parwich Lees. The low sunlight made the most of our undulating landscape. A week or so and the trees will be properly turning. Hope we get some sunshine then too!

A tree for a small garden

pine tree

Thank you to Mani from Germany for this photo af a pine tree.  Note: this tree is around 40 years old, and has been in gardens as far apart as the Outer Hebrides and London, with its last 12 years here in Parwich.  Let’s hope it spends its next 40 years here as well.
