Getting Dressed – Monsdale Lane

Thank you to JF-S for this picture and to Mike G for letting us know that Monsdale Lane is “getting dressed” – having a new coating of tarmac, so access is not currently possible.

p.s. There are clearly two “dumpers” in this picture, let’s hope the owner of this dog, had a doggy bag handy!

Parwich Spa

You will have heard of Bath and maybe even Buxton, well welcome to the now famous White Peak spa village of Parwich:

Parwich Spa

Despite the rain, this evening saw great racing in the junior categories and in the main race with 63 competitors.  A big thank you to all who ensured every thing went so smoothly.  Results and photos of the ‘Parwich Panoramic Five’ fell race to follow.

To win a £10 cash prize – kindly donated by our photographer JFS – all you need to do is correctly identify the “Lights of Parwich” shown below.

Why not get out and explore Parwich? Alternatively, why not get some peace and quiet by sending out the children to identify the pictures?

Email your answers to parwich@hotmail.co.uk by 7pm Sunday 26th July. The entry with the most correct answers wins.

Click on each picture to enlarge it, or click here to get them all in an easy to print two-page pdf.

Competition coming up soon

lightsLook out for a competition ‘The Lights of Parwich‘ (£10 cash first prize) coming soon at parwich.org.

The competition involves identifying pictures of lights in Parwich, so keep your eyes open.

You will be able to print out on two sheets all the photographs in the competition and then set off around the village, or better still send out your loved ones and have a spell of peace and quiet.

Youngsters looking for some extra pocket money for the summer holidays, this is a great opportunity.

What a fantastic Wakes week!

What a fantastic Wakes week this year!  Really good turn outs and great participation, and marvellous weather.  The only event cut short was the Children’s Sports, and even then we had the compensation of some dramatic cloudscapes.

A massive thank you to the Carnival & Recreation Committee and the other organisers for their generous commitment of time and energy.

Here is a look back over the seven days as seen through the eyes of extremely popular parwich.org. Just over 8,000 page views this week alone!  Photos and links to the week’s events…. (more…)

storm

With these high temperatures and humidity, the energy in the atmosphere has to go somewhere, and tonight, it came to Parwich. This picture was taken at 7:30 pm tonight 29th June 2009. The cloud formations were spectacular, and what you don’t get from this still picture is the turbulent movement in the formations. Though there are rumblings and flashes, so far, as of writing this, we have been spared the storm.

She Flies Like A Bird….

This balloon has even been known to touch down on the outskirts of the village.

If anyone has any information on where the balloon comes from or how to book a ride, let us know. It would be fun to see the village from a very different viewpoint!

We do not always know which of the Peak Park press releases should be posted here, although we try to select those with a links to our immediate area.  This one is perhaps more general – but given yesterday’s national publication of two Parwich photographers, there may be some interest in it:

PR 596: 12 June 2009
National park images sought for £10,000 photographic competition

Keen photographers are being given the chance to win a top prize of £10,000 for a picture showing the Peak District National Park’s landscape.  (more…)

Special Sunny Saturday

What a beautiful day!

It was one of those days when the weather was so perfect that everything felt special.  The barbeques came out, people enjoyed their gardens and the pub beer garden was put to good use.

Morning interest was provided by the first Cycling Plus Sportive event which chose to come through Parwich as part of their 100 mile route. Starting from the Donnington area over 500 cyclists took part in the event. Looking at the event website, many participants found the Peak District section the most enjoyable.

Our thanks to John F-S, Kevin S and Ben B for supplying these images – and do pay particular attention to the “Samson” well, as Parwich’s very own Jane B had a hand in its construction!

A few weeks ago, parwich.org published some photographs of the glorious daffodils in Dorothy L’s woodland garden. Alas, the daffs have gone over now and the onerous task of dead-heading is well under way.

We have good news however. Dorothy’s woodland garden is looking more spectacular than ever. The bluebells are flowering and make a breathtaking scene. DSC_8658 - Phase One Capture 4 Adjusted_1195x800

Thanks again to Dorothy for allowing us to enjoy her garden through these pictures. Click on ‘Continue Reading’ for a floral feast!
