A red and blue CUBA waterproof jacket was taken from the beer garden of the British Legion on Saturday evening. If found could you please return to the Legion?
WE MADE IT 🎉🎉. Wakes 2024 you have been awesome. What a week! It’s been action packed and we are completely exhausted but happy to meet so many friends old and new. We are a truly special village and we need to try and maintain that as long as possible.
Wakes would not be possible without the help and support from so many volunteers, the Carnival and Recreation Committee, the Oddfellows, Kirsty, Jane,Tom and the Sycamore Team and everyone at the Legion. So from me to you thank you. It’s time for a rest now but we will be back in 2025.
Signing off for now but leaving you with a few of my photo highlights..
Juno and her family would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who sponsored Juno. So far she has raised a staggering £642.00. An amount which will make a real difference to this small charity so thank you.
Children’s Sports is going to be a wet one! We are still going ahead for any children who still want a race in the rain. There may be a change in the races but we will review it on numbers and conditions. Please be prepared to get a bit wet!!

Parwich Primary School will be hosting a tombola and selling some lovely new gift items on their stall at the Wakes market this Saturday from 10am – 2pm on the Village Green. Please pop along to support us and grab a bargain 😁.
Jane has contacted the blog to let us know there is currently a tree down blocking the road at Alsop-en-le-Dale, meaning there’s no through route to or from the A515.
They’re working to remove it, but not sure how long this will take.
The sun was certainly shining on Parwich during Sunday afternoon with 500 (yes 500) visitors travelling from near and far, including California, to enjoy Open Gardens 2024.
The village looked amazing and on behalf of the whole PDHS committee, a huge THANK YOU goes out to everyone who worked so hard and in so many different ways to make it one of our most successful events in recent years. Whether behind the scenes ahead of opening time, those volunteering on the day and everyone who supported it by taking family and friends on a tour of our lovingly tended gardens. Plant sales were buoyant and we even catered for a wedding party of 24 who arrived on spec to enjoy a cream tea before these sold out.
Final receipts are still to be confirmed but we shall, as always, be looking to share funds among other village clubs and organisations at the next AGM.
Our thanks again and do enjoy looking at John Lord’s stunning collection of photos. Here’s a taster:
Don’t forget our very own Chris Houlihan will be playing live on the Green on Saturday night following the Burbage Brass Band concert. We are very pleased to announce the judges for the Carnival will be Mr and Mrs De Klerk so make sure you dress up to impress 😀. Fingers crossed the sun keeps on shining 🌞.
