Adapted from the classic novel by Charles Dickens, ‘The Personal History of David Copperfield’ brings to life one of the author’s most cherished characters.

From birth to infancy, from adolescence to adulthood, the good-hearted David Copperfield (Dev Patel) is surrounded by kindness, wickedness, poverty and wealth, as he meets an array of remarkable characters in Victorian England. As David sets out to be a writer, in his quest for family, friendship, romance and status, the story of his life is the most seductive tale of all.

PDHS – Going Peat Free

As mentioned at our recent talk, Parwich and District  Horticultural Society plan to only sell plants grown in peat-free compost from 2022. That means that any plants you buy at Open Gardens next year will not have been grown using compost containing peat. The extraction of peat for use in the horticultural industry is destroying our low-land bogs, releasing Carbon dioxide into the atmosphere  and contributing to climate change.
If you plan to donate plants or seedlings for sale please could you ensure that you use peat-free compost. This is widely available but if you have any difficulties please contact Sue H (334 ) and we will be happy to receive plant divisions to pot up for you.
We hope that you will support us in this endeavor, especially as it would mean beating the Government’s deadline of 2024, when bags of compost that contain peat will no longer be for sale.

What’s Happening to the Blog?

Regular visitors to the blog may have noticed some erratic behaviour  of the site in recent weeks, most noticeably the disappearance of some or all of the right hand sidebar of links and local info. This is due to recent upgrades in the WordPress system we use to maintain and publish the site.

The overall look, feel and style of the website is defined by what WordPress terms a Theme. This includes things like the colour scheme, layout, menus and style elements. The Theme we have been using since the blog was first created is now old and no longer supported by the latest version of the WordPress editor. This means there are elements of our site we can no longer reliably edit and even some , as we are seeing, that are no longer displayed correctly, if at all.

We are currently working on moving the blog to a new Theme which will involve rebuilding some portions where we have lost material. We are hoping to publish some alternative designs shortly to canvas opinion on preferences and also collect any suggestions on blog content. In the mean time please bear with us if the blog seems to be misbehaving!

Oil Price Higher

FBF25C80-2C22-4991-8A46-7C20D86EC212
Update for Bradbourne & Parwich Heating Oil Club

The cost of kerosene remains high, but the good news is that the cost of Brent Crude has now stopped rising and in-fact dropped back to below $85 a barrel this week as a new normal settles in. However, the cost of oil remains volatile, with gas prices at their highest ever those who can switch to oil are doing so, leading to higher than normal demand over the winter period.

Many suppliers are unable to take on new bulk orders as they are fully booked for the next few weeks.

Delivery time is still 7 to 14 working days, but due to demand and driver shortages in some areas these times are an estimated delivery time, so please allow plenty of time for your order to be delivered. If you are low on heating oil this group order will not be suitable.

Rate:  £0.5702 (pence per litre excluding vat [5% for Domestic use])
