Martin C has recently uploaded a three-part video of last year’s parade, featuring some high-flying camera work from Mike H in the bell tower (in Part 1), the church service (in Part 2) and some interviews with the participants (in Part 3). The total playing time is just over 25 minutes.

This morning’s St. George Parade started at the Legion, with the Parwich Odd Fellows (also supported by members of the Loyal Cavendish Lodge and their banner), the Cyberscouts and the Cadets all led by Doveholes Brass Band.

The procession made it’s way (via Parwich Hall) to the Church for a rousing service.  All the hymns could be belted out, and were: “Guide me, O thou great Redeemer”, “Jerusalem”, “I vow to thee, my country” and “Onward Christian Soldiers”.  The Vicar, brandishing a sword, gave an address on St. George as a Christian knight.

After the service the Parade continued on round the village before adjourning to the Legion.

Thank you to the Parwich Society of St. George for organising this event.  For more photos (more…)

Classical music in our area

If you enjoy classical music there is a concert on Friday in Matlock at Highfields School at 7.30pm. It features a group called Partita, who perform songs and instrumental music from the 12th to 18th century. Their programme will include music by Purcell, Vivaldi and Handel.

These concerts are organised by Matlock Music, the have approximately 6 concerts a year and individual tickets are £10 and free for under 18’s.  It really is incredible value for money to have this opportunity to listen to professional musicians.

The next concert will be Friday 11th June with a violin and piano recital.

Also remember to reserve May 1st , music that night will really be on our doorstep: at the Church.  A brass and organ recital in aid of Parwich Church Restoration Fund.  The concert starts at 7.30pm and tickets are £5-7.50 including refreshments, children £1

Culland Hall in Brailsford will be hosting the fifth annual Open Garden and Spring Plant Fair on Sunday, 25th April 11-4pm. There will be unusual plants for sale from leading specialist nurseries and RHS exhibitors in aid of local charity ‘The Mid-Derbyshire Association for Mobile Physiotherapy’, which has been providing home based physiotherapy for over 25 years to housebound, and often isolated people, living in the Derbyshire Dales area. For details of last year’s event, click here.

Ashbourne Breast Cancer Walk around Carsington Water on Saturday May 8th at 2.30pm.

Follow in the footsteps of our own Rebecca and Sandra’s great achievement last year…….

Do something amazing and join in the Ashbourne Breast Cancer Walk – open to walkers of all ages, both men, women boys and girls. Enter as a family or get together some friends from your work, college, school or community. Even get the neighbors involved, every person counts!

The starting point will be the Carsington Water Visitor Centre leaving at 2.30pm therefore early arrival is recommended for all walkers, registration is required from all walkers including children.

Click here to get all the details about the walk including a page to pre-register (there are already 450 people registered to walk). Last year there were 900 walkers who raised nearly £10,000 ! With your help this could be even bigger in 2010.

Did you know…..?      Breast cancer is now the most common cancer in the UK.

Book both these dates in your diary, there will be more details over the next month.

Sue H would like to say a big ‘thank you’ to everyone who supported the coffee morning last Friday and made donations. She would especially like to thank those who sent cakes, jam, eggs etc. for sale. The morning raised £225 which will be sent to Carol M who is raising sponsorship for WoW.

As well as being a successful fund-raising event, it was an excellent opportunity to see people and to catch up!
