The sunny weather saw many folk from the village out and about basking in the February sunshine. Last Sunday our roving reporter donned his walking boots and headed over the undulating countryside towards Tissington. The following photos provide proof that the sun was not an illusion!

Last of the snow?

A fair dollop of snow landed on Parwich last night, adding to the unmelted layer already on the ground. The morning saw many residents reaching for their shovels.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

At the time of writing (5.30pm on Saturday) the Parwich weatherlink (kindly made available by Graham & Amanda) says the temperature is 1 degree celsius. We are expecting a bit of a thaw mixed in with rain over the next few days. The village’s fondant icing appearance is likely to change.

Have we seen the last of the snow? Probably not. There is still plenty of time for more of the fluffy stuff. In the meantime, enjoy the warmer temperature!

Mike H writes:

A friend of mine has a rather hair-raising hobby – his idea of a weekend jaunt is to take his microlight for a spin. A couple of weekends ago Howard decided that he was going to take off from Leicestershire and head north-west to take a look at the beautiful village of Parwich (as I keep telling him about it!). Ace photographer Mark was also on board and was able to take some interesting snaps from above. I thought you might be interested to see them…

Thank you to Jane B for spotting this new musical phenomenon:

Four youngsters from Parwich could be the latest band to emerge from this small village, which already has a history of launching successful new musicians. The four, who still have to come up with a band name were heard to be practising on the corner of Croft Avenue and Creamery Lane, singing “We will, we will rock you”, using improvised instruments.

Eat your heart out Queen!

World Premiere this Sunday

As part of the celebration Tea Party this Sunday there is a presentation by Youlgrave based artist, photographer, writer and naturalist Christine Gregory on her recent work.

Christine works in a range of mediums, but especially impressive are her wildlife photographs taken in the White Peak.  It will be a great treat to see her fantastic photographs on the big screen in the Memorial Hall.  We are particularly lucky in that we will get a sneak preview of her new book, not officially being launched until next week (click here for details of the official book launch on Tuesday 2nd October).  Copies of this book will also be available for purchase.

Christine Gregory‘s presentation will start at
5pm Sunday 30th October in Parwich Memorial Hall
All are welcome, no charge
.
