Family Dancersise

image

The District Council have issued the following press release about the up coming season of Dancersise sessions in the Memorial Hall:

Family Dancercise comes to Parwich

Tucked away to the north of Ashbourne, until recently Parwich was one of the Derbyshire Dales’ best kept secrets. That is until earlier this year when it was named by the Sunday Times as ‘one of the best places to live in Britain’.

So what better place for Derbyshire Dales District Council to launch its Family Dancercise classes. The monthly Dancercise sessions take place at Parwich Memorial Hall and feature a different dancing style each month. The classes are aimed at families and all ages and abilities are welcome to attend.

Winning Week

PARWICH CROWN GREEN BOWLS CLUB

Having found the bike helmet and filled our faces with fish and chips it was back to the grind of home league matches. It didn’t work out too badly either and with only five weeks left for us to try and save our place in the top division of the Thursday Friendly League we needed to be at our best (well sort of).

Matlock Tuesday bowls league.
Home – Youlgrave – 28 July – 6.30pm.

In the away fixture earlier in the season we lost by quite a margin and following last week’s match we had dropped down to sixth place in the league even though we had won. A good score was needed to get us back and what a score we got. After Dawn’s television commitments she turned on the style with Dot (having also learnt to walk on water) and the dynamic duo won 21 – 0, what a score. Not to be outdone Edith and Sue A also turned in a fabulous score winning 21 – 4. Harry B and Tony A had a poor win!! Only winning by 21 – 7 another great score. Dennis and Clara E narrowly lost 21 – 16. The overall result worked out in the end Parwich 79, Youlgrave 32. We were 5 points behind our opponents, but this result will put us some way ahead of them and may even put us back up a further place or two.

  • Next match- Away – Bakewell – 4 August – 6.30pm.

Matlock Thursday Friendly League.
Home – Whitworth Park – 30 July – 1.45pm.

As you know we are propping up the division and Whitworth Park are quite a way ahead of us in the league and although we did not win any of the three doubles we were in touching distance of them at only 63 to 44 down. Could our singles players do the business for us? Well out of the six singles we won five and the one we lost we only lost by 2 points. You see not only does herself (Dawn) sort out matters in the Tuesday League she can also get the job done on Thursdays as well, winning 15 – 4. Adding up the scores we finished 88 – 58, giving us a really good win by 132 – 121. Next week we play at the Golf Club and struggle there; keep your fingers for us.

  • Next match – Away – Matlock Golf Club – 6 August – 1.45pm.

Because of the inclement weather the friendly against Ashbourne Park was postponed. Not sure if we will have enough time to re-arrange the game.

Cobra Fit

Although outside our area, this is strongly endorsed by a local resident. Apologies Keeley for the delay in posting it, but we were waiting to get a response from all of us on the Team before publishing.

I’ve been going to cobraFit for almost a year now and feel fitter, healthier and in better shape than I’ve ever done. CobraFit is suitable for both men & women and covers a wide range of ages. The eldest person being 71!

If you’re interested why not try a ‘taster’? Contact Alison for more details – quoting the Parwich website.

PARWICH CROWN GREEN BOWLS CLUB

Now you have been told about the wonders of playing Crown Green Bowls, but in addition to the great venues that we get to, you can also eat out even though you lose the match!

Matlock Tuesday bowls league.
Away – Whitworth Park – 21 July – 6.30pm.

This team are vying for promotion to the top division, we on the other hand are attempting to keep our fourth place. We only managed to win one game, but this was the catalyst for the rest of the match. Clara and Dennis E got us off to this good start winning 21 – 11. Great result. Now again you may not believe this but Edith and Rick lost! However, they only lost by 3 points. Pat and John B had a super comeback. At one point they were 16 – 1 down, but came back to again only lose by three points. All of these losses did equate to 72 points. Unfortunately Whitworth scored 74. Now for the good bit, close to Whitworth Park is a very good ‘Chippy’ so having had a game of bowls you can dine out in style with fish and chips!! What a way to drown your sorrows.

  • Next match- Home – Youlgrave – 28 July – 6.30pm.

Matlock Thursday Friendly League.
Away – Baslow – 23 July – 1.45pm.

Again this team are second in the league and we, as you wonderful followers of this stuff will know, are bottom, and proud of it. When we play in this league if you turn up you get a game. The rationale is we want to enjoy it. It is the Friendly League after all. Other teams on the other hand only play members who have a reasonable potential of winning, hence we put out 12 players whereas Baslow who have loads of members put out a team of only 10 players. Two people therefore who played in the doubles then played in the singles which may be regarded as an advantage. The chances of us winning this match anyway were small and our attempts unfortunately proved to be the case. A bit of a whinge really, but there you go. We lost 141 – 112, which will still mean we are bottom of the league.

  • Next match – Home – Whitworth Park – 30 July – 1.45pm.

A cracking game ensued last Sunday in the ‘square robin’ (I am assured that no animals were harmed in the playing of this game). It was won by Edith and John H. Well done you two. This Sunday we are entertaining Ashbourne Park at Parsons Croft in a friendly. A good afternoon should happen all being well, although the weather may not be kind to us, but we will be there, will you?

John B.

P.S. – Now you are aware that Dawn and Edith are very good bowls players and can nearly walk on water, but you did not know that they are also pundits for the BBC on the NHS – Vis – The Real Peak Practice.
P.P.S. – The really nice bike helmet is still with us. Unfortunately the empty Stella cans and the half eaten cake are no longer with us.

Walking on Water

PARWICH CROWN GREEN BOWLS CLUB

At present we are hanging on by the skin of our teeth. All the other teams are playing much better than us or are we playing worse? Whatever the outcome you have to tip your hat to your village team. Nobody in the league has fewer members to choose a team from and yet we can very often beat teams with in excess of 50 players.

Matlock Tuesday bowls league.
Home – Wirksworth – 14 July – 6.30pm.

There was a person who it is said walked on water and without being too irreverent we have two ladies in our club who can do the same! Dawn A fabulously assisted by Sue A won their game 21 – 2. When you get a result like that you wonder how it is done, I only wish I could do it. Edith playing this week with Tony A also did the business winning 21 – 17. Told you Dawn and Edith were water walkers! John B and Dennis E just missed out, losing by one shot 20 – 21. The final result was Parwich 71, Wirksworth 61. Because of other results last week we had slipped to sixth place in the league, maybe we could move up a place. Next week we play a team close to the top and we are away so we do need perhaps some more divine intervention.

  • Next match- Away – Whitworth Park – 21 July – 6.30pm.

Matlock Thursday Friendly League.
Home – Hazelwood – 16 July – 1.45pm.

Hazelwood are one of the ‘massive’ clubs compared to us and we inevitably struggle because of their strength in depth, however on occasions we can get close, even if we don’t win. Liz and John H had a marathon of a game of 28 ends finally coming home to win 21 – 17. Clara E and Harry B also had a very long game, but came up just short 16 – 21. After the doubles we were trailing 47 – 59. Now here is a turn up for the books, we lost 5 out of the 6 singles games, but still came out on top 80 – 77. Can you believe that? Again Dawn A was the star of the show to give us our best win 15 – 6. It does not matter which day of the week it is Dawn does the job. Although we did eventually lose the match 127 – 136 we may well get closer to the people ahead of us. If you recall we are bottom of the league so the only way is up!

  • Next match – Away – Baslow – 23 July – 1.45pm.

On Sunday we are playing a club competition, the Square Robin, who thinks these things up? If you want to find out what one of these square robin things is come down to Parsons Croft on Sunday and find out? The game starts at 10.30 in the morning. Hardly up by then, is it daylight at that time in the morning?

PARWICH CROWN GREEN BOWLS CLUB

Quite a rollercoaster of a ride this season one week we are playing really well and the next week we are being well beaten. This week unfortunately it’s the latter. However we did try against teams a lot higher than us in the league. The fact that we are bottom of the Thursday league and everybody is higher than us is immaterial!

Matlock Tuesday bowls league.
Away – Matlock Park – 7 July – 6.30pm.

Back to Matlock again this week. Matlock are a very safe second in the league and almost certain to be promoted, we on the other hand had slipped on ‘goal’ difference to fifth, which for us would be a good place to finish. The green is in the riverside park in Matlock and the public stop and gaze at the goings on on the green, particularly the visitors from down south who play the ‘other’ form of bowls. All of this verbiage is to avoid letting you know we lost 77 – 58. There were a couple of good Parwich games, Rick and Edith coming back from 10 nil down to win 21 – 14. What a gem of a pair they are. Similarly Pat and John B down 15 – 5 coming back to lose 21 – 15. Not bad really. Our fifth place is in jeopardy after this result though.

  • Next match- Home – Wirksworth – 14 July – 6.30pm.

Matlock Thursday Friendly League.
Away – Bradwell – 16 July – 1.45pm.

The weather was really good for the match, which is about all you can say. Try as we may we lost the three doubles games leaving us trailing 63 – 32. We shared the six singles three each with Rick M leading the way winning 15 – 4. John B and Edith also coming on strong with good wins. Unfortunately these wins were not enough to get us anywhere near Bradwell. The score for the singles was 74 – 73 to Bradwell, giving a final score of 137 – 105. So we will still be propping up the league. We like the lower league anyway!

  • Next match – Home – Hazelwood – 16 July – 1.45pm.

John B.
