Wakes Thursday

6.30pm – Children’s Film Show in the Memorial Hall.

On vacation in Los Angeles, Walter, the world’s biggest Muppet fan, and his friends Gary and Mary from Smalltown, USA, discover the nefarious plan of oilman Tex Richman to raze the Muppet Theatre and drill for the oil recently discovered beneath the Muppets’ former stomping grounds. To stage The Greatest Muppet Telethon Ever and raise the $10 million needed to save the theatre, Walter, Mary and Gary help Kermit reunite the Muppets, who have all gone their separate ways: Fozzie now performs with a Reno casino tribute band called the Moopets, Miss Piggy is a plus-size fashion editor at Vogue Paris, Animal is in a Santa Barbara clinic for anger management, and Gonzo is a high-powered plumbing magnate.

8.30pm – The Ball Race – on Pump Hill

Tickets £1 available all week

Great Prizes available:
1st Prize – £75
2nd Prize – £50
3rd Prize – £35
4th Prize – £25

As you’ll see from these photos, Saturday evening’s rain failed to dampen the spirits of those who took part in this year’s Wakes Carnival Parade, where villagers were joined by the Ilkeston Town Band and, of course, the “happy campers” from Notts D.A.

The weather was kind for today’s Odd Fellows procession. There was an excellent turn out too, both from the village and from members of Odd Fellows groups from several other regions. Everyone was made very welcome by the various hosts along the route where refreshments were provided. A very pleasant event indeed!

Another extremely successful Wakes Week is over and thanks must go to everyone who took part, spectators, participants, organisers and helpers, but without the hard work of the committee who meet, plan and co-ordinate the events we wouldn’t have this amazing week.  So special thanks to Kerry Allsop, Janet Bainbridge, Sandra Chadfield, Roger Cundy, Liz Edge, Denis Laycock, Alan & Barbara Lowes, Paula Lynam, Sharon Swindell and Karen Wigley.

Next year’s Wakes begins on Saturday 30th June 2012.
