OPENING ODE
Tune: “Stuttgart”
Outside the Sycamore Inn at the start of the parade

Brethren of our friendly Order,
Honour here asserts her sway;
All within her sacred border
Must her high command obey.

Join, Oddfellowship of brothers,
In this song of truth and love;
Leave disputes and strife to others-
We in harmony must move.

Honour to her courts invites us-
Worthy subjects let us prove;
Strong the chain that here unites us,
Linked with Friendship, Truth and Love.

In our hearts enshrined and cherished,
May these feelings ever bloom;
Falling not when life has perished,
Living still beyond the tomb.

What an excellent idea and a great evening.

Denis L showed a cine film from the 1960s of Wakes and a slide show of Wakes photos taken over the last 100 years or so on the Parwich Film digital projector now installed in the new Hall.  I did not count the audience but there must have been over 50 or 60 people there, sharing memories.  The loudest responses were to some of the 60s and 70s fashions and Carnival costumes (Val K is very keen to ‘have a strong word’ with whoever handed over to Denis one particular photo).

The Carnival & Recreation Committee had laid on wine and cake, which was avidly consumed as people looked at more photographs that people had brought in and displayed on tables arround the hall. (more…)

We may have changed the Commenting Policy, but please do send your comments in.  The main thing to remember is you have to use your real name, so if you are John Smith you can use J Smith, John S or your full name John Smith.

Tension mounted on Sunday afternoon, as two teams warmed up, ready to face each other for the duel of the year.  Much training had been undertaken, which was obvious when you saw the teams in action: peak fitness and grim determination.  The atmosphere was electric, play was fair and the promise each person showed in training was realised: an outstanding performance.  They lasted the course; no fouling, ‘well none that the referee saw’; and the result was just.  Parwich lost the volleyball to the Campers but won the tug of war.  Heads can be held high, pride is maintained – keep those flags flying.
