Voices: Women of A white Peak Village
Compiled and edited by Gillian Radcliffe in 2004, this book gives a fascinating insight into the lives and experiences of the women of Parwich past and present. It is illustrated with photographs and runs to 218 pages. £5.
A Parwich Walk
Written by Peter Trewhitt and Patti Beasley in 2002, this 28 page booklet gives an historical overview of the village with handrawn maps and illustrations and a few photographs. Although a some updating is required, the village has changed very little in the last twenty years. £1

A set of 8 postcards reproduced in 2003 from old photographs. £1 for the set, 20p for individual cards.

Congratulations to all Parwich Primary School Year 6 pupils. They have all worked tremendously hard (100% at least meeting national expectations in English Writing, Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling, Reading and Mathematics) – Greater Depth was also celebrated in each of these subjects.
Our Year 6 deserve every success in the future.

Whilst I was outside on Creamery Lane at dusk yesterday evening, waiting for guests to arrive, I saw more hedgehogs on the road than cars! Please keep an eye out for them when driving.

…And there really is no in between…
It’s been a few weeks since a bowls report last appeared on here, which is not to say that activities on the greens have been curtailed in any way. In the Tuesday League we continue to exert pressure on the leaders with some thrilling and absorbing fixtures. Two weeks ago a particularly spirited display saw us win 68-58 away at Bradwell, always good to have a positive result up there. I will remember my own pairing with Tony A. for a long time in this one, we were 20-15 down and two woods to the deficit with just one in the hand to play, but we looked at each other and said “We’re not going to lose this.” We fought back to take the game 21-20! The following week we were triumphant again, this time at home to Bakewell, also by a relatively narrow margin of 79 to 66. Once again a victory felt good as I always consider Bakewell to be a very good team indeed.
In the Thursday League fortune has not been so kind on us this year; we are yet still to win a game! Subsequent fixtures at Hazelwood, on their beautifully cared for venue that looks as if it were laid out by Capability Brown, and at home to Hope Works, and as pleasant a bunch of people as you’d meet anywhere, we went down to scores of 135-99 and 139-95 respectively. Seemingly it now requires a geeing-up and superhuman effort of epic proportions to pull us out of the relegation zone in the second half of the season and maintain our position in the top flight.
Last week brought defeats in each on the competitions, being away I’m unable to comment on the matches in detail, but we were both up against top of the table sides in each case and away at greens that our team were either playing for the first time or hadn’t visited for years, so maybe there’s some mitigation there.
There will be no match this Tuesday, our charge for glory will be temporarily put on hold. The League Secretary has decided that summer sports should be cancelled because it is now summer. The anticipated match against Whitworth Park will now be played deep into September when evenings are darkening and dew will be frosting on the green.

Following receipt of the final Ofsted report, we are pleased to share that Parwich Primary School is judged to be a ‘Good’ school. Throughout the day of the inspection, the inspection team were highly positive with regards to the provision that we offer and stated that we were ‘a flourishing school’.
As a school team, we constantly strive to provide the very best for each and every pupil and we have always remained proud of the pupil’s resulting efforts and achievements. We believe the Ofsted team has captured our school ethos perfectly and points for improvement are areas that the school are already working on. After the inspection, we are reassured that under the present framework, we are on the correct path to ‘Outstanding’.

Well what a week its been, the weather has been on our side and every event has been brilliantly supported. Everything from the traditional March, Carnival, Fair, Hill Race and Kid’s sports to the slightly less traditional Hungry Hippos and Bullseye I think we can all say we have definitely had a laugh and a smile along the way.
So it’s nearly time for the Carnival and Recreation Committee to sign off for a few weeks well deserved rest! But before we do THANK YOU to each and everyone of you. It takes a whole village to make these events successful and the Committee is only as good as all the helpers and supporters along the way so again THANK YOU.
Now enjoy the Strong Man today and see you all next year – put Saturday 1st July 2023 in your diary now 😁
