James Bond (Daniel Craig) is enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica after leaving active service. However, his peace is short-lived as his old CIA friend, Felix Leiter, shows up and asks for help.
The mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond on the trail of a mysterious villain who’s armed with a dangerous new technology.

Update for Bradbourne & Parwich Heating Oil Club
After weeks of rising oil prices, Brent Crude settles back to $92 a barrel as talks between Russia, the US and Europe continue in an attempt to de-escalate tension over Ukraine.
Delivery times are 7 to 14 working days. Delivery times are an estimated delivery time. Please allow plenty of time for your order to be delivered and take into consideration that with the cold weather comes higher oil usage so please ensure you have allowed enough time for delivery. If you are low on heating oil and need a quick delivery, this group order will not be suitable.
TIP: Show your tank some love this Valentines Day! Over time condensation and sludge naturally build up in your tank and can cause issues if sucked into your system. We recommend adding a bottle of additive to your oil to help break down any sludge and clear the injectors and pipes, and putting a water scavenger in every few months to absorb any water that has built up at the bottom of your tank.
Additives and water scavengers can be purchased from The Oil-Club Store. Please note, if you have an AGA then please ensure you order the cooker additive.
Rate: £0.5975 (pence per litre excluding vat [5% for Domestic use])

On behalf of the Parwich Independent Welfare Fund….
On Saturday January 29th, Parwich Legion allowed us to hold a fundraising event in their club room, hosted by the Oddfellows, to raise money for the fund which supports members of our community when they need it.
The event was so well supported that we managed to raise a total of £2,380, which is a fantastic amount. A major part of this was the auction, which raised £1,060.
We would like to thank all those who donated all the raffle prizes, auction produce, knitted products, and cash donations we received, we were absolutely overwhelmed with the amount of items donated in support of our cause. We would equally like to thank all those people who bought tickets for our event and varying raffles, draws and the quiz as well as those who made winning bids for our auction lots (and those who helped to get the bids up) and all those who supported us on the night.
We would also like to thank the following who helped make this event run so smoothly:
- The Loyal and Laurel Crown Lodge (Parwich Oddfellows) Bill, Rob, Jimmy, Mick and Roy for staffing the BBQ, managing our ticket sales, delivery leaflets and supporting us throughout.
- Rob for running the Mr and Mistress competition,
- ”Dolly Dealer” Gill,
- Karen for helping with the raffle,
- Auctioneer legend Paul
- Bar-person extraordinaire Sarah for keeping all the glasses full.
- Parwich Legion for allowing us told hold the event, for their generous donation and for supporting our ticket offer.
Some of the night’s winners were:
- Guess the name of the bear: Dave S
- 4.5 gallon bottle of whisky: John W
- Mr and Mistress: Jacqui J and Alan S
- Quiz: 1st Lucy M, 2nd The Brants, joint 3rd Janice W & Ed L.
- Play Your Cards Right “big winners”: James S and Carl W
If you’d like to see the quiz with (or without) the answers click on the appropriate link below:
Thanks again,
Carl and Emma.

Update for Bradbourne & Parwich Heating Oil Club
Oil continues its relentless rise with Brent Crude approaching $93 a barrel. Tensions between Russia and Ukraine, coupled with Cyberattacks on two German-based oil storage companies and reports of new attacks coming out of the Netherlands and Belgium have pushed prices to levels not seen for over 7 years.
Delivery times are 7 to 12 working days. Delivery times are an estimated delivery time. Please allow plenty of time for your order to be delivered, and take into consideration that with the cold weather comes higher oil usage so please ensure you have allowed enough time for delivery. If you are low on heating oil and need a quick delivery, this group order will not be suitable.
TIP: Give the inside of your tank a Spring clean! It is a good idea to add a bottle of Exocet additive to your tank every now and then to breakdown any sludge build up and clear the injectors and pipes. In addition, Exocet additive also lowers carbon emissions, stabilises fuel, and improves overall fuel performance. Additives can be purchased from The Oil-Club Store. Please note: If you have an AGA, then please ensure you order the cooker additive.
Rate: £0.6097 (pence per litre excluding vat [5% for Domestic use])

Just trying to plan some walks this year and I am wondering if any decision has been made on the wonderful bank holiday tea and cake at Alsop or perhaps for the jubilee celebrations.?
Anyone know.

and perhaps food caddy…
as our council tells us –
Last week council staff emptied more than 2,200 caddies, equating to around 24 tonnes of food waste. Our own Clean & Green teams will again assist on Tuesday and Friday this week with food waste collections.
One can only dream that serco will be reimbursing the Council for this?

Just a reminder that as a Society we want to promote going peat free. As highlighted in past blog posts aswell as with samples of peat free potting compost at our last talk, we gardeners need to do our bit to protect sensitive peat landscapes and safeguard these repositories of carbon dioxide.
If you intend to donate plants for sale this year please could you ensure that they are potted up in peat free compost. We plan to only sell plants and seedlings that are grown in peat free compost this year. We want to be ahead of the ban on sales of compost containing peat which is due to come into force in 2024.
If you prefer to let us have bare roots to pot up on your behalf please contact Sue H on 334.

We’ve been asked by the Parish Council to post the following-
On several occasions the Parish Council have been contacted by residents concerned about vehicles getting stuck on the corner between Kiln Lane and Creamery Lane.
The Council is aware of the hazard and inconvenience this causes. Unfortunately the Parish Council has no powers install signage or other measures to reduce the risk. Previous attempts to get the Highways Authority, Derbyshire County Council (DCC), to install suitable warning signs have been unsuccessful.
However they did suggest that a record be kept every time this happens. This could be used to try again to justify some action.
The Council are asking residents who observe problems on the corner to e-mail the parish Clerk on clerk@parwichparishcouncil.co.uk .
Please include as much information as you can. This could include, but not be limited to:
- Date
- Time of day
- What type of vehicle was it?
- How long any vehicle was stuck?
- Was a recovery vehicle required to move it?
- Was the road beyond the corner blocked?
- Was the vehicle damaged?
- Was any property damaged?
- Was there any other damage?
- A photo if possible.
Even if is quickly resolved please make a report to add to the evidence.
… and don’t assume someone else will report it!
The more reports we get, even of the same incident, the more impact we hope this will have with DCC .
The number of incidents reported will be logged in the Parish Council minutes. When this makes what the Council feels is a compelling case we will write to them again.

The RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch takes place at the end of this month. Let’s make this an occasion to do a Big Parwich Garden Birdwatch. Anyone wanting to take part please also send in your sightings to us and we’ll publish the results. Anyone who fancies something different than staring into your garden how about spending an hour sitting in the Pump Hill Garden- it would be interesting to record what birds are making use of the area.
