Dales’ residents invited to participate in District Council’s autumn forums

Local residents are being urged to take part in the next round of Area Community Forums to be staged across the Derbyshire Dales this autumn

Hot topics up for discussion include a ‘You Said – We Did’ feedback session, a Good News briefing from Chief Executive Dorcas Bunton, an ‘Efficiencies’ workshop session, an update on recycling issues and a popular Questions & Answers session.

Council Leader Councillor Lewis Rose OBE said: “These forums continue to be important to us in reaching out to local people and listening to what they have to say.

It’s a great opportunity for local people to get involved and we would urge anyone who hasn’t attended a forum before to come along.”

Residents can pick up some handy tips on how to recycle more and there’ll be an update on future waste and recycling issues.  There’ll also be an opportunity to take part in The Budget Game where participants will be asked how they would spend the Council’s money and whether they have any suggestions for savings.

The Forums will take place at Wirksworth Memorial Hall on Tuesday 18th October, Parwich Village Hall on Tuesday 25th October and Eyam Church Centre on Tuesday 1st November.

All start at 7 pm and anyone who can’t attend in person can email questions in advance to communityforum@derbyshiredales.gov.uk or via the District Council’s Facebook and Twitter pages @derbyshiredales.  The 1st November forum will also feature a live Twitter feed at www.twitter.com/derbyshiredales

A Question Time session will enable audience members to ask questions and make comments and suggestions to the various representatives.

For further details or to be added to our mailing list ring 01629 761302 or email communityforum@derbyshiredales.gov.uk

The Derbyshire Dales DC online consultation about charging for replacement wheelie bins runs upto the 30th of September (click here to participate in their survey).

As well as the District Council consultation, the Blog Team thought it worth asking some additional questions here. (Click here to see our original post.) There have been some interesting results and comments to our poll which you can still participate in.

We feel that Derbyshire Dales offers an excellent waste collection and recycling service, which compares well with other Authorities, and they respond well to any disruption to collections. What do you think?

Replacement refuse and recycling containers cost the Council some £28,000 per year.

Potholes

Thank you to the Parish Council for this information:

The Parish Council is aware that the condition of the roads in, and around, the village is of concern to residents. The responsibility for maintaining the roads rests with Derbyshire County Council. DCC operate an on-line form for accessing information and reporting various issues which can be found here.

To report a pothole select

  1. Report or request
  2. Fault on Road
  3. Road condition

then select the picture that matches the pothole and add its location and comments and/or photographs.

The following have already been reported by the Clerk in April with photographic evidence.

  • Near the Cottage and Nether Green
Deep pothole – Reported on 6 April 2016, I believe this pothole has been reported before but there has been no repair. This pot hole is approximately 9cm deep It is on the main route through. Parwich It is on a narrow lane frequently used by cyclists in groups. If a cyclist were unable to avoid it the risk of serious injury would be very high.

    Current status: Job authorised

  • Near Church View
Shallow pothole – The surface has broken up around iron works in the road leaving a 6cm exposed sharp metal edge. This is a hazard to cyclists and pedestrians.

    Current status: Enquiry noted

  • B5056 to Ashbourne
Subsidence – This road has been damaged by heavy lorry traffic in a number of places. This is the main route from several villages and businesses into Ashbourne. There is concern that failure to address the condition of this road will lead to further deterioration resulting in more costly and disruptive repairs being required.

    Current status: Enquiry noted

So as you will realise nothing has happened very quickly. The Parish Council appears to have no more influence than anyone else using the reporting form. However it may be that if more people report the same issues indicating their continued concern then they might be given a greater priority.

Andrew Martin.
Parish Clerk.

DDDC Bins Survey

Your views welcome on whether we should charge for replacement waste & recycling containers

We would like to know whether you support the idea of being charged for replacement waste and recycling containers. Replacing damaged or lost bins currently costs Derbyshire Dales Council Tax payers around £28,000 a year.

We’re now asking for your views in an online survey that also asks whether or not we should end the annual free supply of black sacks and biodegradable garden waste sacks for households that can’t accommodate bins. Providing free sacks currently costs Council Tax payers more than £30,000 a year.

Please note there may be parking problems in Ashbourne today as a number of caravans moved onto the Shaw Croft Car Park last night. (See report on the Ashbourne Telegraph website.)

It is not known how long the situation will continue. Alternative parking includes the Market Place, the overflow field by the Fire Station, the Leisure Cetre car park, the ‘bus station’ and Sainsbury’s car park. Do let other readers know when this is resolved by adding a comment to this post.

Update – 12 midday Friday 15th July

Re. Traveller encampment, Shawcroft car park, Ashbourne

Derbyshire Dales District Council owns and operates this car park, and a spokesperson said:

We have visited the encampment, which appears to comprise a number of connected families all of whom are apparently Irish Travellers. While their representatives have informed us they intend to move on by Monday at the latest, we have in any case instigated an immediate court order process to remove them and in the meantime are constrained by the law. We will however be monitoring the site closely.

Free caddy liners being delivered across Derbyshire Dales

Derbyshire Dales District Council’s annual delivery of free food caddy liners has started to all 34,000 homes in the district.

Undertaken by a dedicated team – not bin emptying crews – the deliveries will take around three weeks to complete.

Dales residents are being advised that if they haven’t received their year’s supply of caddy liners by the end of May they should email waste@derbyshiredales.gov.uk or contact the District Council’s Waste Helpline on 01629 761122 before 30 June.

Caddy liners will not be delivered if requests are made after this date but will be available to buy from the Town Hall in Matlock, from the council’s leisure centres in Ashbourne, Bakewell, Matlock and Wirksworth and from Ashbourne Tourist Information Centre, Bakewell Pet Supplies and Eyam Village Post Office.

Properties that use black sacks for household waste collections will also receive a free roll of sacks during April and May. The same applies to residents who have subscribed to the council’s compostable sacks scheme for garden waste – they will receive a roll of compostable sacks.

Anyone who currently uses black sacks for household waste and hasn’t yet subscribed to the compostable sacks scheme for garden waste can complete the online form at  http://www.derbyshiredales.gov.uk/waste or call the Helpline.

If black sacks/compostable sacks have not been delivered by the end of May, residents should contact the District Council before 30 June as sacks will not be delivered after that date.

Derbyshire Dales District Council has responded to the views of local people on proposed “Horse Orders” that could become law in public spaces across the Derbyshire Dales from April. The District Council’s Environment Committee are considering  plans to adopt exclusion orders and a horse-on-lead reign policy in certain areas – and give council workers powers to issue fixed penalty notices to riders who fail to remove horse mess left by their animals in public places. The proposed orders seek to balance the needs of responsible riders against the interests of those affected by large piles of horse droppings, particularly toddlers.  (more…)

Derbyshire Dales have updated their Christmas tree recycling information:

image

Simply place your real tree at the edge of your property on your green/recycling day collection (between 5 – 29 January). Trees should be no longer than 5 feet in length so it may be necessary to break/saw the tree into a manageable size. Please remove the decorations and plant pot.

You can also take it to your nearest household waste recycling centre. It will then be composted along with other garden materials.

Use the easy postcode search to check which containers to put out and also to download your 2016 collection calendar >> www.derbyshiredales.gov.uk/mycollection

Double bin collections start this week

A reminder that in addition to your scheduled recycling (blue bin/blue bags) collections, household waste collections are happening this week and next (w/c 21 and 28 December) to help with the usual build-up of festive throw-away material. So don’t forget to put out your grey bins/black bags this week and next.

To help prioritise household waste collections, all garden waste (green bin/compostable sacks) collections are suspended during these two weeks.

Food waste collections will continue to happen weekly and recycling collections fortnightly.

Every household in the district received a Christmas and New Year collections timetable in the October issue of our Dales Matters publication, and a collection calendar is also available to view or download online at http://www.derbyshiredales.gov.uk/mycollection

Usual collection days apply Monday-Thursday this week but will be generally later than usual from Christmas Day throughout the festive period.

Fracking In National Parks

Previous Blog comments indicate this is an issue of interest to our readers. Last Thursday the Government reversed their previous assurances and gave the go ahead in principal for the extraction of shale gas by ‘fracking’ (the injection of water and chemicals into shale beds to release the gas) within National Parks. It is not known if any companies will be interested in exploring for shale gas in the Peak District or in our immediate area, though there are shale beds under much of the local parishes.

There is now a Parliamentary petition asking the government to reverse this decision. Click on the image below to access this petition:

In a new initiative, each district councillors is allocated £1,000 a year towards projects or initiatives in their wards that will benefit the local community.

Applications to the Local Projects Fund can be made by local groups and individuals based within the Derbyshire Dales that can demonstrate community benefit.
