The chestnut avenue planted to celebrate the Queen’s coronation is now gone, but for one tree; let us hope that the Parish Council are able to find a suitable alternative that will survive all the tree diseases that now threaten. Thank you to John F.S. for this photographic eulogy:

We have received the following notice from the Parish Council:

Notice

PUBLIC TRANSPORT, PARWICH

County Councillor, Mr S Spencer kindly attended the March Parish Council meeting and provided some information regarding public transport in Parwich and a transport scheme for 16-21 year old people.

Following the recent tendering process for public transport at Derbyshire County Council, the parish council has been advised that public transport in Parwich has been subject to very little change and school transport will remain the same for the next 18 months. It was reported, however, that usage is vital for the future of public transport in Parwich.

The parish council was also informed of a scheme called ‘Wheels to Work’ which is aimed at young people, aged 16-21 years of age, and involves a motorcycle loan scheme to enable young people to get to work.

If you are interested in finding out more about the ‘Wheels to Work’ scheme or specific public transport timetables for Parwich then please visit Derbyshire County Council’s website or www.derbysbus.info/times or call 01629 580000 for information.

Please also see the attached timetable for the 102 Ashbourne-Parwich service with effect from 2nd April 2013 and information regarding the 411 ‘school days only’ service.

So far there seems to be strong support for some reduction in street lighting (89%), with the largest group in favour of making a decision on a light by light basis. Up to this morning, Friday 15th March, 36 people have responded to our general poll:

  • Decide on a light by light basis – 50%
  • Turn all lights off for part of the night – 28%
  • Turn street lights off altogether – 11%
  • Keep all lights on all night – 11%

In relation to the polls for individual lights, so far, things are less clear cut: some indicate agreement with the County Counci’s specific suggestion, others indicate disagreement with the proposals, though for many there is a split vote giving no clear consensus. (more…)

Derbyshire County Council (DCC) is proposing to introduce ‘part night street lighting’ in Parwich. This process has already taken place in other parishes throughout Derbyshire. DCC has identified street lights which are proposed to be turned off for part of each night in Parwich.

There will be a consultation period which commences on 5th March and lasts until 2nd April. Parwich residents are invited to submit comments directly to DCC regarding this initiative during this period.

A copy of the plan illustrating the lights which are proposed to be turned off will be available for inspection at Parwich village shop.

Members of the parish council will discuss this proposal at the next parish council meeting on 20th March 2013.

The Derbyshire Public transport unit have advised that there is a tendering process for the bus service in April. They said there is NO intention to take away a bus service from Parwich.

They are legally obliged to provide a service for children to school. They cannot provide details until after April of exact timetables. There may be changes to the services as a result of the re-tendering process and there will be notification in advance of any possible changes being implemented.

The Parish Council will be notified of any changes and will post these on the blog.

– Caroline Healy, for the Parish Council
