Based on Richard Osman’s international bestselling novel of the same name, The Thursday Murder Club follows four irrepressible retirees — Elizabeth (Helen Mirren), Ron (Pierce Brosnan), Ibrahim (Ben Kingsley) and Joyce (Celia Imrie) — who spend their time solving cold case murders for fun. When an unexplained death occurs on their own doorstep, their casual sleuthing takes a thrilling turn as they find themselves with a real whodunit on their hands.

Anyone missing a cat?

This very friendly cat turned up at my backdoor at Rookery House yesterday and has been here all day in the rain. He or she is very friendly, wearing a chip on the collar( presumably to open a cat flap) and looks quite young.

In case anyone is looking for her, she is still  in the garden  and keeps coming to my backdoor.

Parwich Memorial Hall

Just to let you know this coming Sunday (Sept 7th ) at about 3pm, all mobile phones in Britain on 4G and 5G networks will vibrate and emit a siren for up to 10 seconds, even if they are set to silent mode.

The phones will display the message below confirming that the alert is a drill

If you wish to avoid the alert, iPhone users should go to settings, search for “Emergency Alerts”, and turn off “Severe and Emergency Alerts”.

Android users can do the same, also searching for “Emergency Alerts” in settings and switching off “Severe and Emergency Alerts”.

A spokesman said: “Theatres are updating their pre-show announcements to remind audiences to turn phones off completely, helping to minimise disruption.

The AA, meanwhile, recommended that drivers familiarise themselves with the alert sound and vibration and do not interact with the message until they have stopped in a safe place with their engines switched off.

“On the day, drivers should simply stay calm and focus on the road. As always, only check your phone when you’re parked safely with the engine turned off.”

The Final Push

Many may be UNDERWEAR that the crown green bowling season is reaching its’ final fortnight, but there are in fact only two games in each league to go until the end of a hard-fought season. Although it’s TIGHT at the top of each league I’ll only make BRIEF mention of Tuesdays and SUSPENDER the full report on that until next time, for the current situation is that we’re poised to grab the all-important second spot in the Thursday competition. After inVESTing much time on Sunday afternoons in practice routines it’s come down to whether we can win at home to Matlock Park this week and then KNICKER win on Thursday week at Chatsworth to be able to BASQUE in the final glory.

We’ve had some impressive results, winning six out of our last seven outings to be able to be in this position, some by decent margins and some have gone down to the G-STRING, so BRA-vo to all players for their efforts over these games. Good wins against Baslow, Chatsworth, Youlgrave and Matlock Bath, albeit tempered with a narrow BLOOMER at Hathersage this week have left us looking the side with our SOCKS pulled well up.

It has been a difficult season for conditions. Whilst I’m sure we all welcome a long, hot summer for a change, a lack of rain has inevitably taken a toll on greens. Warm weather has seen many that are a lot faster than would normally be expected, and lack of breeze has caused players to PANT around the various arenas at times. But all credit must go to LONG-JOHN (H) whose tireless efforts have ensured that we have a decent surface to play on, with both mower and clever use of HOSIERY to keep it moist when required. No doubt we’ll be STOCKING up with BOXERS of grass seed to repair patches where necessary in time for next year’s campaign.

So we’ll do what we can to end the season not feeling RIPPED-OFF. We shall GIRDLE our loins. Let’s just make sure we don’t SLIP up; Is it in our own hands? – CORSET is.

Afternoon Tea – Today

I’m taking part in the Chatsworth 10k to help raise money for this amazing charity. Please take a minute to read about their work:

Blythe House Hospice offers counselling and bereavement support for any child aged from 4 to 18 years old whose loved one has died or who is living with a life-limiting illness. They also support patients, families and carers living across Derbyshire.

In addition to that they provide high quality 24/7 end of life care at home, offering patients at all stages of illness, family members and carers counselling; physio, occupational therapy, group support, specialist palliative clinics and nursing services.

Blythe House has, and still is providing support for us and so many other families who have suffered the loss of a parent or loved one. The guidance and support we’ve received has been the light at the end of the tunnel, they are a cup of tea when you really need one, they are a peaceful space to access invaluable help and advice from experienced counsellors.

Please donate what you can to help this amazing charity to continue to support children and families.

O2 signal

I have been in contact with O2 via their Facebook site messaging service  https://www.facebook.com/o2uk/ regarding our failed mobile signal, and they have escalated my complaint.

The social media site is the best way to contact O2 (for anything); it appears to be staffed by English people and they reply promptly. Phoning O2 is hopeless…

How long has the service been unavailable? I think at least since the 8th August.

There has been no activity at the mobile mast site at Brook Close Farm.

I suggest as many people as possible complain to O2 via Facebook to try and get them to do something.  I had a message saying that they had planned work to be done on the 13th and service would be restored by that evening…

UPDATED: 19/08 4pm

I have just had a further update from O2 – for the blog-

“Our engineers have identified a fault on the mast and have ordered the parts”
