The programme for Wakes 2022 is almost ready there are just a few things to sort and timings to confirm but I thought it was worth sharing the draft so far (please do note some events/timings may vary slightly).
Amy questions feel free to email me lucywigley@googlemail.com or find our Parwich Wakes Facebook page.
Well, yes, okay, it was one game from ten,; and we scraped a win by one point last Tuesday at Whitworth Park (Darley Dale,) but the headline had to be upbeat to excite you Dear Readers.
The poor run of form continues, yes, but we do have injury concerns which we’re all sure will improve markedly over the ensuing weeks. We’ve also had some close matches with fine individual performances, so I’m sure that further successes are just around the corner. The two home games of last week against Burbage (Tuesday) and Hathersage (Thursday) I am unable to comment on as we were away on holiday – but checked the results from afar before breakfast on each occasion the following day.
So on to the away travels again this week. A thrilling match Tuesday evening at Whitworth went down to the wire and having tight games throughout, finished in the pouring rain with Parwich having a 72-71 advantage. The trip to Bakewell on Thursday was a glorious affair on a warm summer’s afternoon, again with some exchanges ending as mere single point margins, however Bakewell came out on top this time and fully belied the 143 to 93 scoreline. The jaffa cakes were welcomed but the chocolate digestives melted as we ate them….
So, two home games this week, support down at the Club would be much welcomed; 6.00 Tuesday v Hope Works and Thursday 1.45 against Baslow. Despite the recent losing streak and events on the greens seemingly conspiring against us, fear not, as certainly my resolve, for one, will not be dampened! …Mark J.
Apologies for late posting of Mark’s report but for some reason our email system has decided to treat Mark’s posts as junk [can’t think why! 😉 ]
Oil prices end the week slightly up on last Friday, with Brent Crude at $112 per barrel in midday trading on Friday. Once again, the market is balanced with any upward trend due to the Ukraine conflict being offset by the downturn in demand from China due to Covid lockdowns across major cities.

Big congratulations to Dawn, Edith and Kerry for winning the Car Treasure Hunt. A special mention to Mark and Penny for their ‘special selfie’!
Thank you to everyone who took part and enjoyed the scenic route. Plus an extra special thanks to Rob Clarke for the delicious bread and Rob Stafford for the excellent burgers and sausages. Plus Liz and Carl for setting it. Hopefully we will do it all again next year.
The school are holding an action packed sports week in June, building on and developing all the skills they have been learning throughout the year. Some activities are based in the village so be sure to say hi 😊.

‘We have a Ukrainian family living with us and the mother of the family, Luda, is looking for a job in the village.
If you know of anyone in the village who is looking for a cleaner, a cook, a carer or any other role that doesn’t require excellent English, please would you get in touch with me.
Also, if anyone needs a wonderful cake for a special occasion, please do let me know as Luda is very talented and would be delighted to bake for you
Please contact me on 07767426107. Thank you Caroline H’
Long shot but does anyone have any contact details for the lady who comes around Parwich in the pink ice cream van? If you do please can you email them to me lucywigley@googlemail.com
Oil prices end the week slightly down on last Friday, with Brent Crude at $110 per barrel in midday trading on Friday. Once again, any gains due to the ban on imports of Russian Crude and oil products by the end of the year are being offset by the slowing Chinese oil demand due to new Covid lockdowns across major cities.

The next meeting of Parwich Parish Council will be held on Wednesday the 18th May 2022 at 7:00 pm in the Memorial Hall.
The meeting will be adjourned at 8:00pm so that the Parish Annual Meeting can take place.
The previous minutes of the Parish Council indicated that we had hoped to present the results of the recent Housing needs Survey at the Parish Annual Meeting. However we have recently been advised by Derbyshire Dales District Council that this will not be available until the end of the month, so this will not be possible. The survey will be discussed at a future meeting of the Parish Council.
