Help Needed

A lady has been in contact asking if there is anyone local who could possibly offer support for her elderly parents who live in Parwich.

Her father needs support, not necessarily physical but just to have someone there as he has fallen in the past. It could be just half an hour a day just so he can get on his stair lift and go downstairs and have a bit of quality of life. Carers have been asked but as they can’t get their equipment into their home they are not able to help.

They are offering payment but that is something that would be discussed between them and whoever may take on the position.

If anyone knows of anyone who may be able to help please contact Lucy Burlinson on 390112 or message the Parwich helpers facebook page.

Thank you very much 😊

Warning – Vaccine Scam

Please be aware of the following sent to us by Action Fraud. Please keep an eye on our vulnerable residents who may be taken in at this worry time:

As of 7 January 2021, Action Fraud had received 57 reports from members of the public who have been sent text messages claiming to be from the NHS, offering them the opportunity to sign up for coronavirus vaccinations. The texts ask the recipient to click on a link which takes them to an online form where they are prompted to input personal and financial details. In some cases the online form has looked very similar to the real NHS website.

Pauline Smith, Head of Action Fraud, said:
“Remember, the vaccine is only available on the NHS and is free of charge. The NHS will never ask you for details about your bank account or to pay for the vaccine. If you receive an email, text message or phone call purporting to be from the NHS and you are asked to provide financial details, this is a scam.”

How to protect yourself:

In the UK, coronavirus vaccinations will only be available via the National Health Services of England, Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland. You can be contacted by the NHS, your employer, a local GP surgery or pharmacy, to receive your vaccination. Remember, the vaccinations are free of charge and you will not be asked for a payment.

The NHS will never:

  • ask for your bank account or card details
  • ask for your PIN or banking passwords
  • arrive unannounced at your home to administer the vaccine
  • ask for documentation to prove your identity, such as a passport or utility bills

If you receive a call you believe to be fraudulent, hang up. If you are suspicious about an email you have received, forward it to report@phishing.gov.uk. Suspicious text messages should be forwarded to the number 7726, which is free of charge.

If you believe you are the victim of a fraud, please report this to Action Fraud as soon as possible by calling 0300 123 2040 or visiting www.actionfraud.police.uk.

Derbyshire Dales Lockdown News

The rules going into this lockdown weekend
Going into this lockdown weekend please remember it’s against the law to meet socially with family or friends unless they are part of your household or support bubble.

You cannot leave home for recreational or leisure purposes (such as for a picnic or a social meeting).

So you should minimise time spent outside your home, but you can leave your home to exercise. This should be limited to once per day, and you should not travel outside your local area.

Government rules define “stay local” as staying in the village, town or part of the city where you live.

Parwich Helpers – A Thank You

As we enter a further lockdown only days into the New Year, Parwich .org has reminded us constantly of those who have volunteered to shop, collect medicines and run errands for our community, all so willingly undertaken.

As well as Lucy, Lucy, Cheryl, Rosie, Karen and Liz there are the nameless Parwich Helpers.

So with weeks more of lockdown and restrictions, thank all of you for your selflessness and generosity, even putting yourselves at risk from this wretched Covid. Huge thanks from Lynette and me and I am sure many others who will want to add their names.

Hen Lockdown

Seeing the advert for a cockerel has prompted me to let people know that it is a difficult time for poultry keepers. For anyone unfamiliar with keeping poultry, since 14 Dec 2020 all poultry and other captive birds have had to be separated from wild birds by being housed or totally enclosed in netted pens. Birds cannot free range. This is due to avian flu within the UK and applies whether you keep one bird or thousands. Further information and updates on locations of disease outbreaks can be found at https://www.gov.uk/guidance/avian-influenza-bird-flu

First Responders

HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM THE PARWICH FIRST RESPONDERS

The Parwich First Responders held their AGM by Zoom on 8 December 2020.

4 responders that are not shielding have been carrying on providing a response services to Parwich and the surrounding area during this awful pandemic.

The First Responders have had a request from the ‘Call to Arms’ to support the roll out of vaccinations across Derbyshire. This is a huge task that the NHS is facing and the responders are very willing to provide support where they can. Some of the responders have already provided a support role at Bakewell Hospital where rollout of the vaccine started the week before Christmas and is continuing throughout January. Rollout of the vaccine is starting on the 7th January 2021 at St Oswald’s and again some of the Parwich Responders will be providing support to the clinics there this week.

Responders will continue to carry out the First Responding Role in Parwich as well as the support to the Call to Arms.

Funding is still an issue for the First Responders. They rely on donations to keep equipment going such as batteries etc for defibrillators. Last year this came at a cost of nearly £400. If anyone has any ideas about fund raising in these challenging times we would be delighted to hear about them.

We are always looking for more people to join the existing small team (7). This pandemic has highlighted what an important role the First Responders play. Full training to become a First Responder is provided and the time commitment is determined by individuals. You offer as much or as little of your time as you want. If anyone would like more information about becoming a First Responder please contact Sue Hughes 390334.

We wish you a Happy New Year and hopefully it will not be long before we all start to resume some sort of normality.

Stay safe.

House Wanted to Rent

Can anyone help? Hopefully we will be starting building work on our house in Creamery Lane in late January/February. We need somewhere to live while this is going on, preferably in the village. Does anyone have or know of a house that we could rent for up to six months at the most. We need two bedrooms and it can be furnished or unfurnished. We promise not to throw wild parties or grow weed in the bathroom and we will look after it immaculately. If you could phone me on 07970 490010 that would be fantastic. Patti Beasley

Latest news from Derbyshire Dales

Dales to move into Covid Tier 4
Central government has moved all of Derbyshire – including the Derbyshire Dales – into Covid Tier 4 from one minute past midnight tonight.

Three quarters of England’s population will be under the toughest Covid rules from Thursday after it emerged that 60% of UK coronavirus cases are now the new, more transmissible, strain of Covid-19.

Being in Tier 4 means we cannot leave or be outside of the place we are living unless we have a reasonable excuse.

Suffice it say it hasn’t arrived here.
If it has turned up on anyone’s doorstep please let me know

Thank you Santa

Richard T has sent us a video of Santa on his trip around the village yesterday.

On behalf of the people of Parwich I would like to thank Santa and his extra special elves, Andrew, Jackie, Alan and Liz for making it happen. I feel it could become a new tradition?!

I also wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone who helped out with the Elf Trail it was very popular and I’ve received some great feedback so thank you again for all the hard work you put in.

Finally on behalf of the Carnival and Recreation Committee I would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Church Tomorrow

There are two Parwich-related opportunities for worship tomorrow:

  • At 1000 in church there’s a candle/Christingle service where each person lights their own holding candle symbolising the light of Jesus and bringing hope to people living in darkness.  Due to social distancing, space in our church building is reduced so we may not be able to welcome everyone in. To avoid on-the-door disappointment, please telephone or email in advance to ensure there is a place for you in the building (contact details below).  CANCELLED in order to keep everyone safe
  • At 1800 we’re on Zoom for our local version of King’s College, Cambridge Nine Lessons & Carols.  Bring a candle and reduce other lights to increase the atmosphere!  As this service will be recorded, if you prefer your faces not to be recorded, please set up so that your candle is visible.  At 1730 bring your own tea/coffee & cake for a chat if you wish.  (Contact details below.)

The church is also open on Sundays 9am – dusk for private prayer

Carols on your doorstep?!

Carols on your doorstep !

Listening to radio 4 this afternoon I heard that some places have arranged to sing carols on their doorsteps as a community. Some have been doing this every Thursday in December but I wondered if people showed an interest we could decide on one date together? Just a few socially distanced carols on our own doorsteps  to cheer us all up. What are peoples thoughts?

Elf Trail

Don’t forget you can still complete the Elf Trail up until Sunday 20th December 🎅🎅🎄😍. If you don’t know the village too well you may want to leave out 9, 10 and 11 as they are quite a trek but you can still guess the words and get a treat 😉. You can walk straight from West View across in front of the Church to Church Cottage. If you are unsure just message me (lucywigley@googlemail.com). The pub shop is open to collect sheets 10.30am – 2.30pm Saturday and Sunday.

Parwich Welfare Fund – can you help?

Parwich welfare fund is planning to make a recipe booklet to raise money for our village fund. Money raised will go towards helping people from our village who are in need, this could be anything from buying logs for someone or just a bunch of flowers when someone is poorly or feeling low.

In due course we will be asking village residents for their favourite tried and tested recipes! For now we are looking for a cost effective way to have the books printed as we need to make as much money for the fund as possible ( we will be selling them for approximately £5 each). It could be a stapled booklet or ring bound format, approx. 50 pages with a small image per recipe. If anyone has any contacts or knows of a reasonable printer then we would really appreciate your help. We have already tried instaprint on line, Derby university and Ashbourne business centre.

If you can help, please contact Lucy Burlinson at tigercheeks@hotmail.co.uk or 390 112.

Thank you 😊
