We have received the following email from Carole B (nee Gibbs). Please comment or email the blog team if you have any information or can help:

Hi,

I wonder if you could help me please? My Uncle Ken tells me that there was a photo of my Grandfather Charles Gibbs on a wall in the Legion. He was in the army then so it must be very old (first world war). Do you think someone living in Parwich would help me to locate it if it is still there and email me a copy? I will gladly pay any costs, postage, printing etc. Also any pics of my Uncle Harold or any of the Gibbs family would be much appreciated.

Thank you

Remembrance Sunday

Thank you to JFS for these two photos: the first in St Peter’s Church Yard when this morning’s service moved out to the War Memorial for the two minutes silence and the Last Post.

And the second at the Legion afterwards.

Last Sunday,  Parwich Church, raised £550 at the Church Fete, all this money went to the Church Restoration Fund.  In the morning at the St George’s Day Service, £290 was donated in the collection,  which was split between the British Legion and the Church.  Thanks to everyone who supported the day.

This evening, again in aid of the Restoration Fund, there will be a Brass and Organ Concert in the Church at 7.30pm.  The professional Brass group, Essentially Brass, from Leicestershire, are joined by the renowned organist of Pipes in the Peak fame, Christian Cartwright, in a delightful programme of light classics and popular tunes, old and new!

Tickets are only £7.50 for adults and £1 for children and this includes refreshments.  Further details of the music and excerpts their music on You Tube can be heard here. Tickets are available on the door, by ringing 01335 390529 or online here.

Don’t forget the Church is organising a Skills Day this Monday, 2-5pm.  A chance to enjoy and experience some of the skills people have to offer.  Refreshments are available.

Programme for Sunday 25th April

  • 9-15am Legion open for people to gather
  • 10-15am Odd Fellows, Cyberscouts & Cadets Parade starts at the Legion
  • 11-00am St. George’s Day Service in St. Peter’s Church
  • 1-00pm BBQ & Refreshments at the Legion
  • 1-00 to 4-00pm Fair on the Green inc stalls, refreshments and live music

Celebration of St George’s Day is a recent revival, so do share your thoughts on what the day means to you or how the day used to be marked in the past.  Any photographs of the celebrations (old or new) can be sent to parwich@hotmail.co.uk for inclusion in our reports of the events.
