Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Celebrations

Caroline H writes:

We held a village meeting last week to plan for the Queen’s Golden Jubilee celebrations on Tuesday 5th June.

The plan is to have a tea party starting at about 4.30 by Nether Green, a paper boat race and games on the Green, a village photograph and to finish in the evening with a torch lit procession.

Jubilee mugs will be available at tea time for all of the village children aged under 16 and we have ordered some extra ones which can be bought on the day.

We thought it would be really fun and atmospheric to have a musical accompaniment to the procession and we would welcome a volunteer to do this. Please can anyone who is willing to do this contact me.

Parwich is also joined in to the national beacon lighting and this will take place on Parwich Hill between 10 -10.30pm the evening before, on Monday 4th June.

Lets hope the weather doesn’t let us down for all of this!

If you have any more suggestions, do let me know.

Caroline (378)

A meeting was held on 3rd January 2012 to discuss the preparations for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. Our celebrations will be held on the extra Bank Holiday on Tuesday 5th June 2012.

A number of suggestions were raised by those that attended: Denis and Pauline Laycock, Nia Linnell, Matthew Harrison and Caroline Healy.

Initial ideas are:
 To hold a tea time street party on the stretch of road from the pub down towards Blanche Meadow (so that this stretch of road could be closed off)
 Entertainment for the children
 Live Music
 Fireworks
 Beacon lighting on Monday 4th June to join with the national beacon lighting and further beacon and fireworks on Tuesday 5th
 Lamplit Parade, using torches, tea lights or candles, led by an accordion player
 BBQ
 Celebration cake
 Commemorative mugs

A letter will be sent to every household to request a voluntary contribution towards the costs and the Village Societies will also be approached.

These are just initial thoughts and we would greatly appreciate any suggestions and help to help take the plans further.

The next meeting will be held at 7.30pm on 15th February in Parwich Memorial Hall

Everyone is welcome to attend so that we can plan together how to make this a memorable and enjoyable village celebration.

Caroline Healy Chair of Parwich Parish Council
Denis Laycock Chair of the Carnival and Recreation Committee

With Christmas fast approaching, we have a busy week to look forward to. Festive events are well to the forefront, with highlights including three performances of The Magical Christmas Box at the school (on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday), followed by the ever-popular Carols on the Green on Thursday, where we shall be joined by the Ashbourne Band. Minced pies and mulled wine will also be available.

Our Christmas film, The Chronicles of Narnia, will be screened on Friday, and there will be more opportunities for carol singing at the school’s Christmas service on Thursday, and at next Sunday’s two carol services in Parwich and Alsop.

Over at the Legion, Santa Claus will be making his appearance next Sunday. (Warning: He knows if you’ve been bad or good. So be good, for goodness sake!) Meanwhile, The Sycamore have a Christmas darts knockout tournament this afternoon, and a pub quiz next Saturday from 5pm, hosted by the holidaymakers of Uppermoor Farm.

Full details of the coming week’s fun-packed activities follow below….
