(The blog team apologises for the lateness of this post. We are rather short-staffed this week, so anyone wishing a post to be made over the next few days is best advised to contact us as soon as possible.)

Circuit Training at the Memorial Hall resumes Thursday evening (6th Jan) at 6pm after the Christmas break.

You don’t need to have started from the beginning – anyone can join at any time, and come to as many or as few sessions as you like.

All abilities are catered for – perhaps now is the time to try to start working off that extra helping of Christmas pud?

Tinsel Tinged Tunes

If you’re looking for a spot of pre-Christmas fun, head down to The Sycamore from 8pm on Thursday evening.

The A52s have spent literally seconds learning a Christmas tune or two, so there’s plenty of entertainment on offer watching them struggle to remember the chords!

Carols On The Green

As the temperature dropped to minus 5 degrees C on Thursday night, the hardy souls of Parwich gathered round the Christmas tree on The Green to sing carols.

Despite the cold, the event was full of pre-Christmas magic. We would like to extend our thanks to the Ashbourne Band, who came to play (and must have found the mouthpieces on the brass instruments a bit nippy!).

After carols, mince pies and refreshments were served. Thank you again to the organisers of these and to Dennis for leading the singing.

Make-up Made Easy – A Thank You

We have received the following message from Jo-anne J:

Could I ask you to say a big thank you to all who attended the beauty event on the 4th December in the village hall.

A big thank you to Emma and Di not forgetting my little helper Alice who kept me organized while demonstrating, a difficult job!

We raised £140.00 for Marie Curie, which is fantastic considering the circumstances.

Thank you to Louise from Bennetts Ashbourne for donating a beautiful Estee Lauder box of goodies, won by Anita who came over from the South of France – well deserved I feel.

The first dem. I have done in two years, I could not have asked for a better location than the hall, it was amazing and I will return – how lucky are we to have such a great place, the envy of all around us.

Thank you again.

Jo-Anne. xx

Thursday circuit training – still on.

I have had a call from Mark who runs circuit training at the Memorial Hall, to say it is his intention to run the class on Thursday 9th December at 6PM.

So barring any unforecasted further snow, circuit training is back on.

John H writes:

I’ve just been informed that the Over Sixties Group Carol Service planned for Thursday has just been cancelled.

Several of the groups have advised that they will not be coming because of the weather, and the current lack of parking space in the village due to the lying piles of snow has made continuing with the event unadvisable.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused.

Remembrance Sunday

2010 saw the 55th Dovedale Dash and although chilly and a little soggy underfoot, it was a wonderfully sunny day.  Parwich and Alsop were well represented, fielding 21 runners (including 5 friends) out of 1500 runners.  Apologies that the photos are not as sharp as they could be, but the runners were just too fast and sorry if I have missed anyone out.

In the children’s race, Bethany was the first girl in the Under 10’s and Emily the first girl in the Under 8’s and Ben was one of the younger runners.

In the main race, Clive R, veteran, led the Parwich group in, followed by Sue P, Jacob (only 9) and then Graham J.  Well done to the rest – Izzy, Seth, Nia, Thayer, Lexie, Reuben, Josh, Brian G, Jamie D, Mark W and the Linnell’s friends.

Next Year’s run is on Sunday 6th November!

Thank you to Rebecca for this update on the final coffee morning total, and the lost property notice:

The final total raised for Macmillan Cancer Support is £437.85, thanks to further donations from people who could not attend the coffee morning and gifts on behalf of Judith and Alan Smith’s silver wedding anniversary.

I have also acquired a red and white stripped canvas bag left after the coffee morning, if the owner would like to claim it.

Many thanks,
Rebecca (390318) and Sandra
