This lovely romantic film, based on the book Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, tells of a visionary sheik who has a big dream — to bring salmon fishing to the desert. Willing to spare no expense, he instructs his representative to turn his dream into reality. The Prime Minister’s overzealous press secretary latches on for its potential as a ‘good will’ story. Now, this unlikely team will put it all on the line and embark on an upstream journey of faith and fish to prove the impossible, possible.

Film Night on Friday

This wonderful and moody adaption of Jane Eyre stars Mia Wasikowska, Michael Fassbender, and Dame Judi Dench, and was shot on location in many areas of our own Derbyshire, including Haddon Hall, Wingfield Manor and Stanedge.

Jane flees Thornfield House, where she works as a governess for wealthy Edward Rochester. It is clear that the isolated and imposing residence – and Mr. Rochester’s coldness – have sorely tested the young woman’s resilience, forged years earlier when she was orphaned. She must now act decisively to secure her own future and come to terms with the past that haunts her – and the terrible secret that Mr. Rochester is hiding and that she has uncovered.

Two rather lovely YouTube videos, from Peak District TV & Peak District OnLine, were sent into the Blog.

On a misty morning in the Peak District, the mysteriously named Chrome Hill and its neighbour Parkhouse, near Longnor, are brought to life.  Like a weary dinosaur, Chrome Hill appears to be sleeping. The spines on its back are grit stone, tough and hard wearing, but ready for the fight.  Both hills have views to die for and the scenery is simply breathtaking.

The majestic Roaches, on the western edge of the Peak District, north of Leek, rise out of the mists revealing a walker’s eye view from the top. The contorted stones are contrasted against the warmth of the sun, the heather a warm burnt amber amongst the bleak grey of the rock, a super area to walk.
