New Community Grant

We have received the following from DCC which may be of interest to a number of groups in the village:

We’ve launched our Action Grants scheme and groups, clubs, local charities and other non-profit organisations working in communities across the county can download the online application pack.

Our leader, Councillor Barry Lewis, said:

“Over the next two years there will be 2,000 grants of up to £500 on offer to help groups fund projects and events which will benefit their local communities.

“Whether it is to organise a village fete, pay for a youth club activity or to help promote exercise and sport, we’re inviting people who are active in their community to apply.

“Just a little financial help can make all the difference between being able to provide a much-needed local activity or not. If we can help make it happen then it could create a lasting legacy of enjoyment and participation across in communities across Derbyshire.”

The themes of the grants are:

Youth activity
Community safety
Community activity
Physical activity and sport
If a group’s planned project is based on any of those themes, the online application pack will let organisers know what they can and can’t apply for.

Decisions on grant applications will be made after regular application round deadlines.

The first deadline is 30 June 2018, so groups hoping to get funding for schemes in the school summer holidays are advised to apply before that date.

We’re also inviting applications for a limited number of medium grants of up to £5,000 and larger grants of up to £10,000 for projects which can have clear local support and will provide a lasting benefit for a Derbyshire community.

The full criteria for these grants is also in the application pack.

Applications for medium and larger grants will be considered annually, with the first deadline also 30 June 2018.

The Action Grants scheme will run until 31 May 2020.

Friday Football

Friday football would like to thank Parwich Independent Welfare Fund for their kind donation and generosity to the Friday football.

Due to the impending weather we will have to cancel Friday football this week. I think it would be more like ice skating
Thanks

PDHS Visit to Two Great Shropshire Gardens
Weds 14 June 2017
Coach leaves Parwich 8.45am
Returns 6.00pm (approx)

Hodnet Hall Gardens

Over 60 acres of brilliantly coloured flowers, magnificent forest trees, sweeping lawns and a chain of ornamental pools which run tranquilly along the cultivated garden valley to provide a natural habitat for waterfowl and other wildlife. No matter what the season, visitors will always find something fresh and interesting to ensure an enjoyable day’s outing.’

Wollerton Old Hall Gardens

This garden has been designed and developed by Lesley and John Jenkins since 1984. It is set around a 16th Century Hall House and has developed into an important modern garden in the English Garden tradition with echoes of Arts and Crafts. It covers 4 acres, is intensely cultivated and depending upon plant interest. Lesley Jenkins quickly discovered that the age of the site demanded formality in the garden design and so she created three north-south and three east-west vistas.  The resulting linearity of these vistas together with the hedges, walls and paths have created a number of separate gardens, with each one having its own style and ethos. The planting style is best described as controlled exuberance with a definite emphasis upon perennials. Colour, form and scale are all important.  There is much in the garden for the plant enthusiast and the garden is bursting with design ideas.  The range of plants is very wide resulting in significant collections of clematis, salvias, phlox and roses.’

PDHS Members £25       Non members £30

The cost for this trip includes entry to both gardens, lunch at Wollerton Old Hall, and coach fare. Deposit of £5 required with booking, full payment required by 31 May. Contact Glynis Drummond 390561 to book.

It is coming to the end of another horticultural year, Open Gardens was a success and showcased our beautiful village, thank you to everyone who opened their gardens and helped on the day. Despite difficult growing conditions this year many of you entered produce in the the horticultural show, although we could always do with more entries. This year’s trips to Scampston Walled Garden and Jackson Wold in North Yorkshire and Bransdale in Rutland (Geoff Hamiltons garden) were enjoyed by all, thank you to Glynis for organising. Thanks to all those who have paid their membership subscriptions and contributed to the funds raised at these events; the society was able to make donations to Football Friday, Parwich Over 60’s, Parwich.Org, Parwich School Eco Committee and the Parwich Church.

2017 will see a few changes on the committee as both Lesley Goodman as secretary and Liz Henbery as treasurer are stepping down. Lesley first joined the committee in 2008, organising Open Gardens since 2010 and became our secretary in 2012, she will however remain as a valued member of the team. Liz first joined the committee in 2006 becoming the treasurer in 2010, Liz has decided to have a well earned rest from the society, can we tempt her back sometime? A big thank you ladies for all your hard work. The new secretary and treasurer respectively will be Sue Ash and Lynn Comley.

Subscriptions for 2017 are due in January and letters will be circulated to members soon.
Membership remains the same, £2 per person, this entitles you to subsidised garden trips, discounted entries to the annual horticultural show, 50% discount off seeds and 15% off all other items at Sutton’s Seed Catalogue. Please ask Helen Pitts if you would like a catalogue.

Thank you for your continued support. New members are always very welcome.
