Horticultural Trip

What a glorious day in the sun! The PDHS’s second trip of the year was to Quarry Bank, Styal and then Lyme Park, Disley. We enjoyed a fascinating talk at the former and then got to amble around the latter’s extensive grounds in almost Mediterranean style weather. I think I overheard someone say they had clocked almost four miles walked in total today on their pedometer, and each bloom and blossom was worth every step!

100 Mile Ride

Hello, as I’m sure you know I’m quite a cycling addict, yes, a proper MAMIL (Middle Aged Man in Lycra). One of the biggest events for cyclists in this country is the Prudential Ride London 100, which is, yes you guessed it, a 100 mile ride around London and Surrey; well I’ve entered this event, the cyclists version of doing a marathon……

Now the ask – recently a very dear friend of mine has passed away due to Motor Neurone Disease.   I want to do something; so I’m doing the above ride on behalf of the MND Association.  I hope to raise loads of funds to help with their work in helping patients, and research into finding a cure for this horrid disease.
So a big please – please be generous, help me to help this worthy cause.

Finally, I am standing all my costs, and have started the ball rolling with £100 donation myself.  If you would like to make a donation, my daughter and I have set up a Just Giving page.   https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/robertandcatherine
Big love to you all, thanks for reading this.

Habitat armchair for sale

Chair has now been rehomed

Unfortunately we can’t really fit this very comfy Habitat armchair into our house now so it is going free to anyone who wants it. We could deliver in the village or nearby.
It does have some cat damage (visible in the photos) but is otherwise in good condition.
Call 01335 216238 if you are interested.

Open Garden Photos

Good afternoon

I am hoping that Parwich.org and the wider Parwich community might be able to help with our situation?

We moved to Parwich in the summer of 2017 and we were expecting a long and happy future here, especially with the birth of our first child imminent at the time. We love the village and the people we have met have been really friendly and supportive to us.

Sadly, my wife is registered disabled with Rheumatoid Arthritis. Since the birth of our daughter, her health has got progressively worse. She has good days and bad days but the overall trend has been one of a decline.

We need to sell our house at 3 Rathbourne Croft, urgently, so that we can move to a more suitable location where we have other family close by that could help us through the bad times. We have listed our house with different estate agents for the best part of 5 months now and in that time we have only had 5 viewings, which has left us incredibly worried and frustrated; especially when we found out that the previous owners took over 2 years to sell it.

We have just gone live with a new estate agent. I would really appreciate it if Parwich.org could mention this story on their website and perhaps on a recurring basis, link to it again so we can spread the word amongst the local community that this house, newly renovated, is for sale at a very reasonable price. The link for our house on rightmove is https://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-65730085.html

The house has a Derbyshire Dales Local Occupancy Clause against it. We have pleaded with our local MP and the council to remove it so we can sell quickly but they don’t seem to care about our circumstances.

If people could share this story far and wide, on Facebook for example, it may reach a potential buyer. I will also take on board any useful suggestions that might help us sell.

If I print off flyers advertising our house, could I stick them up in the noticeboards that are dotted around the village? Would I possibly be able to stick up posters in the Sycamore and the Legion do you know?

I also wonder if any stall holder at the village market on Saturday 30th June might have a few of our flyers on the corner of their table? We think Saturday would be a good opportunity for an “open house day” at our property. Anyone can come and view it on Saturday, please just knock on our door between 9am and before 6pm (when the baby goes to bed).

Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to give.

Matt and Mel.

Open Gardens

We would like to thank everyone in the village for helping to make the village look attractive for Open Gardens and hope that not too much inconvenience was caused by the extra traffic and visitors.

The day was very successful with takings of approximately £1500 out of which we have substantial expenses!  However, we will have sufficient funds left to make donations to local groups and societies so if you think you qualify for a grant, please apply in writing before the AGM in November.
Thanks again.

Wakes Treasure Hunt

This years treasure hunt has been set by Liz and Carl, the advice to you this year is to make sure one of your team has a mobile phone and a carrier bag, not forgetting your trusty pen!
And to get you into the mood here is a bonus question that will be counted as part of the treasure hunt……

On Wakes Saturday this year, what is the theme of the Sycamore party?

See you at 6pm Sunday July 1st starting at the village green!

Oil Price Dropping?

imageUpdate for Bradbourne & Parwich Heating Oil Club

OPEC and Russia have agreed to raise output by 1 million barrels a day, hopefully ensuring oil prices do not go any higher for the moment. However the increase hasn’t immediately had the desired effect of reducing crude prices which have been trading around a four-year high with crude hovering around $74 a barrel today.

We have secured a rate and our clubs group oil order terms for this weekend are as follows:

Rate:  £0.4790 (pence per litre excluding vat [5% for Domestic use])

More Damage in the Village

damaged wall 2

DO YOU KNOW WHO DID THIS?

In the early hours of Saturday 23rd June 2018 a car damaged the wall outside Slate House, Smithy Lane and drove away leaving a trail on the road which led up the road towards  Hill Top Farm.  At least 2 men were heard talking at the gate in the early hours so we presume they must have been the people involved.
The car was probably quite badly damaged and from the evidence left behind it has been identified as either a Ford Mondeo or a Ford Focus.  It is black in colour and has a 12 or 62 registration plate.
If you have any information about this incident or if you have seen a damaged car matching this description please let us know..

Destruction of verges

Did anyone see a lorry or van drive into the new section of verge in Creamery Lane, between 1.30pm and 3pm today (Thur 21st June)? Did anyone in Creamery Lane or Monsdale Lane have a delivery this afternoon?

The new turf was laid just over three weeks ago. I know it was after 1.30pm as I spent a couple of hours repairing another section of verge not long reseeded this lunch time that was churned up by an oversized delivery vehicle several weeks ago.

If anyone saw who it was I will contact the company to get them to pay for repairs.

Contact Peter T or email parwich@hotmail.co.uk

Update 5.30pm Thur: A possible culprit was a Birmingham Fuel Oil tanker, unfortunately their office is currently closed (see http://birminghamfueloils.co.uk/ ).

Update 10.30pm Fri: The Birmingham Fuel Oils driver says it was not his fault, but that he saw a TNT lorry in the area. Can anyone confirm that, before I contact TNT?

News of Ballidon Church

Dear all

I’m delighted to say that the church at Ballidon has now been saved and repaired by a tiny charity called the Friends of Friendless Churches. We own nearly 50 churches which we have saved from demolition and decay, and there is now a page on our website about All Saints Ballidon:

http://friendsoffriendlesschurches.org.uk/ballidon/

Please do get in touch if you want to help at the church as a keyholder or to keep an eye on it for us – we are a very small charity relying on local people to help us look after these important buildings. And we need local contacts at Ballidon.

We also welcome new members – so if you are no longer local but want to support us, please consider joining us as a member!

Best wishes
Caroline Welch, Web Manager at Friends of Friendless Churches .

Good Work at the Pond

Thank you to JFS who just happened to be at the pond when there was more activity than usual….

Diary Updates Please

We will be updating the Parwich.org Diary page this weekend, so if you have any Alsop, Ballidon, Parwich or Pikehall events (July, August and September) that you want to go in the Diary in time to be included in the Peak Five Church Magazine’s July/August issue please send them in by Sunday (24th of June). Note, there is no separate August issue.

Including our Diary in the Church magazine is important as it helps you reach some of those who are not on-line.

Please send Diary information to parwich@hotmail.co.uk or leave me a message on tel. 287.

Thank you, Peter
