Lost two cat collars

But unfortunately neither is the one found last Tuesday:

Lost, Royal blue velvet cat collar with large bell and mauve ancol name tube attached. My kitten cats have started to explore but don’t go too far away from the Square. One lost his green velvet collar 2 weeks ago and the other his blue one today! (I don’t think he was too thrilled with the large bell I attached to it this morning, following his antics of presenting me with a baby pheasant yesterday, which is now under Mike Heart’s heat lamp!!)

If anyone comes across either of the collars, please could you give me a call on 390554?

Thanks
Lesley

Parwich Parish Council 2015

DDDC have issued a notice of election for Parwich Parish Council. The Parish Council is made up of 7 councillors. When the last election was called 2 people put themselves forward for nomination and were duly appointed as parish councillors on 7 May 2015. These 2 are Phillip Kirkham and Mick Edge (jnr).

Parwich Parish Council needs 3 members to be quorate, with only 2 members appointed it is not in a position to be able to function. The notice issued by DDDC gives the opportunity for people to put themselves forward for nomination. We need at least one person for the Parish Council to function and ideally 5 people to have a full council.

If more than 5 people put themselves forward for nomination there will be an election in the village on 18 June. If 5 or less people put themselves forward for nomination they will be appointed unopposed.

Nominations have to be hand delivered to the Town Hall in Matlock by

4pm on Thursday 21 May 2015

Nomination forms can be picked up from the Town Hall Matlock or requested by ringing 01629 761335 or downloaded at http://www.derbyshiredales.gov.uk/images/documents/N/Notices_of_Election_2015/parish_nomination_forms.pdf

Phil and Mick would really appreciate as many nominations as possible to ensure that the village has a viable parish council.

This Year at Tissington

Yesterday, Ascension Day, saw the start of this year’s Tissington Well Dressings. Thank you John F-S for these photos:

Despite yesterday’s hold ups on the A515, let’s hope Tissington has an excellent time. The Dressings remain in place until next Wednesday.

It’s a Funny Old Game

PARWICH CROWN GREEN BOWLS CLUB

What has happened to the weather?. The season started in a blaze of sunshine both on and off the greens, but brass monkeys have been very prevalent of late. At least we are winning every now and again. To coin a phrase however, ‘it’s a funny old game’

Matlock Tuesday bowls league.
Away – Youlgrave – 12 May – 6.30pm.

Now those of you with good memories will recall that Youlgrave have an elephant buried in the middle of their green and you do need pitons sometimes to climb over the hump. Now you would think that if we win three out of the four games that an overall win would follow, nay not so on this green. Dawn A and John B won 21 – 14 and Sue A and Dennis E 21 – 16. Our Edith with her hurty, hurty knee won with Tony A. Unfortunately our fourth pair lost very well and the final score was Youlgrave 71, Parwich 66. Considering the shellacking we got playing in the Thursday League, quite a creditable result. Can’t wait to get them on our green, it’s a funny old game.

  • Next match- Home – Bakewell – 19 May – 6.30pm

Matlock Thursday Friendly League.
Away – Whitworth Park B – 14 May – 1.45pm.

We were very thin on the ground for this match; what with holidays and illness we only had 9 players instead of the usual 12. As you will know we sometimes struggle in the doubles games, not today though. We were magnificent winning all three and giving us a score of 63 – 34. Now for our strong singles players to really put the icing on the cake. Whoops! We only won one singles game and did not do very well scoring wise in the ones we lost either. Only Dawn A managed a win. The final score however was a win for Parwich 120 – 116. It’s a funny old game.

  • Next match – Home – Matlock Golf Club – 21 May – 1.45pm.

Another lovely afternoon last Sunday in our friendly with Hazelwood. The sandwiches and cake were to die for. You should have been there.

Celebrating VE Day

Despite the weather the events at the Legion on Friday and at the Pub on Saturday were enjoyed by all who attended. Thank you Janet for these photos taken at the Pub yesterday:

A Huge Thank You

Debbie Webster sent us this:

Can you please say a HUGE thank you to everyone in Parwich who has so far helped me with my fundraising efforts for the British Red Cross?

From the very welcome contributions I’ve had through my door, to Sandra C volunteering to paint my face as a tiger (and famed wildlife photographer John F-S capturing it for posterity) I’ve been overwhelmed by the fantastic support.

From providing sanitation in Nepal to undertaking dignified burials for Ebola hit Sierra Leone, the British Red Cross refuse to ignore people in crisis whoever and wherever they are. If you would like to help too, go to my Virgin Money Giving Page, or simply share a donation with me.

Thanks again!

We have received the following update from Parwich Royal British Legion:

On Friday 8th of May, Parwich Royal British Legion will be remembering the 70th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. We would like to invite members and non-members to come and join us at the Legion as we mark this occasion.

At 7.45 pm we will gather outside the club (inside if it’s raining), this will be followed by:

  • the Act of Homage, delivered by Fred Knight;
  • Sir Winston Churchill’s famous end of war speech;
  • King George VI end of war speech;
  •  A rendition of Land of Hope and Glory; and
  • we will conclude by playing the National Anthem.

We look forward to seeing as many people there as possible to help us mark this occasion, afterwards everyone is more than welcome to join us for a drink. Many thanks for your continued support, Carl (Club Chairman)

The Ups and Downs of Bowls

PARWICH CROWN GREEN BOWLS CLUB

At least we did not lose both our matches this week, although the one we did lose we lost with a vengeance!

Matlock Tuesday bowls league.
Home – Whitworth Park – 5 May

Usually we have good close games with Whitworth and although the match was good it certainly was not close. Out of the four games we only managed to win one. Captain fantastic Dawn and her great sidekick Dot sorted out the opposition and romped home 21 -14. If only our other pairs could have got up to even a trot it would have helped, but we lost very well. The score was Whitworth 77, Parwich 53. This result was even worse than the debacle at Wirksworth last week. We need to get ourselves together otherwise we will be bottom of the league. The snag is that next week we are playing at Youlgrave and those of you who read this twaddle will know that they have an elephant buried in the green. Wish us luck as we wave you goodbye.

  • Next match- Away – Youlgrave – 12 May – 6.30pm

Matlock Thursday Friendly League.
Home – Baslow A – 7 May – 1.45pm

Although we are playing in the giddy heights of the top division we are not bottom of the league, nearly but not quite. Baslow were second in the league and have played in this division for a long time. For once we could not get a full 12 people today. We could only muster 10, however what a team. After the doubles we were only 7 behind. Good start. Our singles players did us proud again with Rick M winning 15 – 5, closely followed by Tony A 15 – 8. All the remaining singles were very close, but we came out on top scoring 88 – 65. Only two off a maximum 90. The final score was Parwich 142, Baslow 126. What a result. Let us hope we can keep it up next week.

  • Next match – Away – Whitworth Park – 14 May – 1.45pm.

You missed a good afternoon last Sunday for those of you who did not turn up! Those of you who did had a good time and the tea and cake was a real bonus. This Sunday we are entertaining Hazelwood down at Parsons Croft for a friendly get together. Come along and watch – 2.00pm.

John B.

The results for the Derbyshire Dales parliamentary constituency are as follows:

  • Patrick McLoughlin (Conservative) 52.4% (+0.3)
  • Andy Botham (Labour) 22.7% (+3.3)
  • John Young (UKIP) 11.6% (+7.8)
  • Ben Fern (Liberal Democrat) 8.4% (-14.5)
  • Ian Wood (Green Party) 4.6% (+2.9)
  • Amila Y’Mech (Humanity) 0.3% (+0.2)

The turn out was 74.82%, slightly more (1%) than the last general election. There was little change in the Conservative vote, but the Liberal Democrat vote fell by well over half, with the other parties sharing out this swing.

Congratulations to our returning MP Patrick McLoughlin.
