Thank you to JFS for these two photos: the first in St Peter’s Church Yard when this morning’s service moved out to the War Memorial for the two minutes silence and the Last Post.

Defra has launched a consultation on National Park governance, that is how the National Park Authorities take into account people’s views. You can find out more about this consultation at the Defra website or at the Peak Park website, and can respond to either or both.
Defra say:
Defra’s draft Structural Reform Plan published on 16 July delivers the coalition agreement commitment ‘to review the governance arrangements of National Parks in order to increase local accountability’.
Although the majority of the National Park Authorities have broadly similar governance arrangements, it is felt that the most effective way to undertake the Review is for each Authority to consult locally on potential changes which would work best for their areas, whilst at the same time reflecting the status of the Parks as national assets. This consultation does not therefore contain proposals for any particular structures or arrangements, but instead provides a remit for the Review on which each Authority will base local consultation.
This consultation invites comments from any organisation or individual who wishes to respond. Comments should in the first instance be directed to Defra who will forward copies to the relevant Authority for consideration. If comments are not specific to any individual Authority, these will be considered directly by Defra.
If anyone feels a collective response from our area would be useful please leave your comments below. The consultations runs to 1st February 2011, and for the Peak Park’s press release on this Continue Reading »

Our green bin went AWOL on Thursday.I left it full for collection and returned to find it had vanished! Perhaps it got damaged and the council removed it, but before I contact them, just wanted to make sure it hasn’t turned up elsewhere. So, if you’ve acquired a mystery bin this week I’d be grateful if you could contact me on 334. Thanks, Sue H.
PS The Church’s green bin never turned up.

Audrey, a friend of Mike & Kevin’s in America , visited Parwich over an Open Garden Weekend. She so enjoyed the day that she has produced an online book of the afternoon. It is a delightful snapshot of the day, with some magical photos. Click here to enjoy the story. The photo below is a sample page from the book, by clicking on any page you can enlarge that photo.

2010 saw the 55th Dovedale Dash and although chilly and a little soggy underfoot, it was a wonderfully sunny day. Parwich and Alsop were well represented, fielding 21 runners (including 5 friends) out of 1500 runners. Apologies that the photos are not as sharp as they could be, but the runners were just too fast and sorry if I have missed anyone out.
In the children’s race, Bethany was the first girl in the Under 10’s and Emily the first girl in the Under 8’s and Ben was one of the younger runners.
In the main race, Clive R, veteran, led the Parwich group in, followed by Sue P, Jacob (only 9) and then Graham J. Well done to the rest – Izzy, Seth, Nia, Thayer, Lexie, Reuben, Josh, Brian G, Jamie D, Mark W and the Linnell’s friends.
Next Year’s run is on Sunday 6th November!

Following the recent post on Broadband Speed, Parwich Parish Council have suggested we also post details of British Telecom’s on-line petition, where if at least 1,000 people request it, they may provide a super-fast fibre optic broadband to the nearest exchange.
For more details and to vote see BT Race to Infinity. So far 5 people have voted from the Parwich exchange, which has much less than 1,000 lines (385), however they say “If 75% of your exchange registers, BT will engage with your community to see what we can do in your area.” So vote now!

Parwich Fit 4 All!
A new village group was formed the other night to encourage exercise, health and well-being in Parwich. Our immediate aims are to increase access to Pilates classes. We are applying for 2 grants; one to subsidize the existing class for young people and encourage more to join in and the second to set up exercise sessions for the over 60s.
For this, we hope to get a grant to run a chair based afternoon exercise class in the Memorial Hall in the New Year. There would be about ¾ hour of gentle exercise followed by refreshments. The first two classes would be free and a further 10 would be subsidized.
We are intending to contact directly those who may be interested in attending. However, if you or any of your friends or relatives might be interested it would be really helpful for us to have an early idea of numbers for when we make our grant application. Please contact Ann Whitfield, Rebecca Jordan, Sue Purvis, Sandra Chadfield or Val Kirkham.
Any donations to start off our new bank account would be most appreciated!

If there is sufficient interest Stuart will organise a coach trip to see Tom in White Christmas at the Sunderland Empire:
Hi, one or two people have asked if I am arranging a Coach which Warringtons have confirmed they will do.
Rosemary and I are going up to the opening night with some of our family from Kenya to ‘ check it out’. We are then staying the night at the Seaton Lane Inn Seaham County Durham some 7 miles from the Theatre. If any one would like to consider a later group trip, firstly it is about three and a half hours in a Coach, so we would go to a Matinee at 14.30 pm. We could go in the Coach and stop for lunch at the Seaton Lane Inn just 7 miles short of the Theatre then after the Show return. So it will be a long day.
So if persons could let me know at my Office 01629 582297 or home 336 . Matinees are on a Wednesday and a Saturday. I thought perhaps going in the first two weeks of December if there was interest, around 10 persons have asked me at the moment.
Stuart
Sorry we were too late to give advance warning, but Tom was on the Alan Titmarsh Show Thursday 4th November 5-6pm ITV1. You can catch up on ITV Player.

If you are a resident of Parwich, Alsop, Ballidon or Pikehall, then we would welcome your answers to a few questions relating to your broadband service.
Your input could be useful to anyone who is planning to install a broadband service, and also to anyone who might be considering changing providers.
Please leave your replies in the comments box.
1. Which broadband provider do you use?
2. How much do they charge?
3. Was your service easy to set up and install, or did you experience any problems?
4. How would you rate your service in terms of reliability? For example, have you experienced any interruptions to your service?
5. How happy are you with the speed of your broadband line? Note that you can use speedtest.net to check your current download and upload speeds.
6. How would you rate your provider in terms of customer service? For example, have they solved your problems and/or queries quickly and efficiently?
7. How would you rate your broadband provider in terms of value for money?
8. On a scale of 1 (lowest) to 5 (highest), how satisfied are you with your broadband service?

Formation of a Pilates Committee – Tomorrow night at 7.30pm.
Please come along and support this venture, which hopefully may lead to subsided classes for teenagers and the over 60’s.
We are hoping to apply for a grant to subsidise Pilates for 11-18 year olds and the over 60s. We already have a lively group of teenagers who have a class from 7.30 -8.30pm on a Wednesday, but we would like to reduce the amount they pay to encourage more to take part. We would also like to apply for funding to hold some taster classes for the over 60s, with gentle stretching exercises that could be done in a chair for those with reduced mobility. Due to the availability of the hall they would probably take place in the afternoon, maybe followed by refreshments.
In order to apply for a grant we have to be a group with a bank account. We are intending to keep this as simple as possible with minimal committee members and meetings, however we will need to have an inaugural meeting to agree a constitution and appoint committee members and this will take place at 7.30pm on 3rd November, immediately after the Pilates session, at the Memorial Hall.
Please come and support this, whether you currently do Pilates or not. Anyone with ideas for the over 60s sessions would be particularly welcome. Rebecca 390318

Many thanks to those members of the Tennis Club who weeded, strimmed and cut back round the hard court area this afternoon. It was good of you to give up some of your free time to do this. The area is tidy now and in good shape for the next season. We hear it was made all the more enjoyable by the delicious cakes!
