A resident of Ecton is undertaking a survey of varieties of apple trees cultivated in our general area, and several Parwich residents have asked us to post her questionnaire here. If you are interested in participating click here to down load the questionnaire.
It should be completed by the 5th of November, and you can give it to Jackie Battell in Parwich for dropping off.

Thomas the pub cat is no mug. Whilst ‘normal’ cats would be content to sleep on the floor, this particular moggy has made himself at home in a traditional thatched cottage!

From his vantage point, he can survey The Sycamore’s customers as they relax in front of the pub. Woe betide any bird who may think this particular birdhouse was made for birds!

We have received the following message from Rebecca J:
We are hoping to apply for a grant to subsidise Pilates for 11-18 year olds and the over 60s. We already have a lively group of teenagers who have a class from 7.30 -8.30pm on a Wednesday, but we would like to reduce the amount they pay to encourage more to take part. We would also like to apply for funding to hold some taster classes for the over 60s, with gentle stretching exercises that could be done in a chair for those with reduced mobility. Due to the availability of the hall they would probably take place in the afternoon, maybe followed by refreshments.
In order to apply for a grant we have to be a group with a bank account. We are intending to keep this as simple as possible with minimal committee members and meetings, however we will need to have an inaugural meeting to agree a constitution and appoint committee members and this will take place at 7.30pm on 3rd November, immediately after the Pilates session, at the Memorial Hall.
Please come and support this, whether you currently do Pilates or not. Anyone with ideas for the over 60s sessions would be particularly welcome

The avenue of horse-chestnut trees at Nethergreen was planted to celebrate the coronation of the Queen nearly 60 years ago. For some fifty years they flourished, supplying several generations with conkers. A number of years ago they were discovered to have a disease, that could not be treated.
Professional advice was for the disease run its course, cutting down the worst effected trees as necessary. Unfortunately some more had to go today:

The disease is spread in the ground water so any replacement chestnuts would succumb. However here is a reminder of the same view a year ago:

Photos by JF-S (At least the very old chestnut tree in the Churchyard is up steam, and a ‘left over’ tree from the avenue is still going strong in Hallcliffe garden, where it was planted by Mrs Dodds.)

Thank you to Rebecca for this update on the final coffee morning total, and the lost property notice:
The final total raised for Macmillan Cancer Support is £437.85, thanks to further donations from people who could not attend the coffee morning and gifts on behalf of Judith and Alan Smith’s silver wedding anniversary.
I have also acquired a red and white stripped canvas bag left after the coffee morning, if the owner would like to claim it.
Many thanks,
Rebecca (390318) and Sandra

If anyone has seen it, could they put it in the Church Yard (just inside the gates), or let the Church Wardens know (messages via parwich@hotmail.co.uk will be passed on).

The next meeting of the Tissington Safer Neighbourhood Policing Meeting will be held for the first time in Parwich, at the Memorial Hall on Monday 13th December at 7pm.
In the minutes of the last meeting, held at Kniveton on 27th September, the group, under Sgt Steve Edwards and PCSO Kate Cleveley discussed ‘Community SpeedWatch’. The scheme is already up and running in many of the villages. Training would be given by the Sgt and then volunteers can use the equipment and fill in the appropriate paperwork. A PCSO would be in attendance to assist. It was pointed out that there would be no enforcement, but a letter is sent out to the driver to inform them of their speed.
This may be of interest to our community and anyone is welcome to attend the next meeting in December. The police chair the meeting and normally various councillors and local residents attend and raise relevant issues.

Cheryl Woolley’s cat Bernadette (Bernie) has gone missing. Bernie was last seen on Thursday. She is black, slim and very shy – so she will run away if approached.
Could people please check their garages and outhouses, and maybe leave the door ajar for ten minutes so that she can make her way out.
Any information mailed to the blog team at parwich@hotmail.co.uk will be passed straight to Cheryl.
