Thank you to those of you that have been busy emailing me with dates for the diary, the diary is now online up until May 2011! However if there are anymore dates particularly for December and January, the parish magazine deadline is Thursday and it is a joint two month publication this time. Please do email your event in and I’ll update both the magazine and the blog.
On behalf of the Parish Council, Jane Harrison would like to thank all those who turned out on Sunday morning to help clear the Jubilee Pond and watercourse. It was an excellent job done, and special thanks to Ed for bringing his tractor and trailer down and getting rid of all the “muck”.

The concert by the Choir of St. Mary’s Church, Nottingham here in Parwich on Saturday 13th was by all accounts a great success. Certainly these two clips posted by Martin at YouTube increased my regret at having missed it, but then went a fair way to make up for that.

The TV Digital Switchover in Parwich is due on 17th August 2011
This means in order to watch TV from this date you would need either:
- A Freeview set top box (they start from £20) and possibly a new aerial + your old telly
- Or a TV with Freeview built in
- Or a satellite dish + a Sky Freesat box or Skybox (£150+, or a subscription) + your old telly.
To receive High Definition (HD) TV, you would need a TV that is HD ready + a HD set top box.

Update on Green Lane, Pikehall
I recently wrote an article about green lanes and motor vehicles in Parwich parish magazine and on the Parwich website. I now wish to update you on the situation relating to Green Lane, Pikehall.
We have recently been informed by Derbyshire County Council that the claim to have this lane registered as a By Way Open to All Traffic (BOAT) has been closed. This means that the status of Green Lane will be unclear for the immediate future but it can no longer be used by public motor vehicles (excluding mobility scooters).
Signs will be erected on Green Lane in the near future to state that motor vehicles are not permitted (landowners and tenants with access are still permitted to use the route to access their fields) and we will monitor the situation with vehicle loggers. Should it be necessary we may ask the police to hold an Operation Blackbrook day at Pikehall to help explain to motor vehicle users about the confirmed new status of the route. Please leave any actions and enforcement to the appropriate authorities and bear in mind that this status has only just been confirmed by DCC and vehicle users may well be using the route unaware of the resolution of the routes status at the present time.

Saturday 18th December 2010 (11am-3pm) is the Church Christmas Tree Festival and Fair. It is always a lovely event with the smell of mulled wine percolating through the aisles and various goodies for sale. The trees then remain up until early New Year, really enhancing the Christmas atmosphere in the Church.
So if you would like to decorate a tree, either as a society, as a group of friends or as an individual now is your chance. There is no theme, so you can use your imagination and dress your tree as you wish. To reserve a tree please contact Martin C on 529 or Helen P on 362.

Police have received several reports of persons in a silver BMW saloon and possibly an Audi Estate flagging motorists down by a male, persistently asking for money and petrol. Excuses made have been that they needed petrol as they had run out and had a baby in the car, or asking for money as his wife is sick, etc, and offering gold rings.
Locations where motorists have been flagged down are: B5056, Grangemill stretch, A52 Ashbourne, B5023 Wirksworth stretch.
Incident number: 451 of 15.11.10 & Incident numbers: 320, 687 of 16.11.10.
Don’t become a victim of these scams which have done the rounds before! Anyone with information should call 0345 123 33 33, quoting the relevant incident number.
Please be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police.

A brown cocker spaniel has been found in Parwich and is currently with the workmen at Nether Green. If you know anything about it please see them as soon as possible, they will hang on to the dog for the next couple of hours (they have had to tie it up as it was getting in the way of the machinery).

A big thank you to all of you who supported the Choral Classics for Remembrance Concert in Parwich church on Saturday. The choir gave their services for nothing, the audience enjoyed some lovely village-supplied nibbles, and we raised almost £500 to go to the Help for Heroes Fund, and Parwich Church Restoration Fund

From an early age Heather H has loved making arts and crafts. A while ago she started creating funky jewellery such as necklaces, bracelets and earrings. Last year, when she needed to raise money to fund her Duke of Edinburgh expedition, she started selling some of her work on stalls at the St. George’s Day Fayre, Wakes Week and Wirksworth Farmers’ Market.
Her jewellery-making skills have steadily developed. Some of her work has recently been taken by the Opus Gallery in Ashbourne. This picture shows Catherine from Opus Gallery and Heather selecting items of jewellery to be displayed.
(I have previously bought some items from Heather as presents, which went down very well, so would recommend having a look in Opus when doing your Christmas shopping.)

Minutes from the Steering Group Meeting held on Monday 27 September 2010, 7.30pm at Kniveton Village Hall.
Sgt Edwards opened the meeting and thanked all present for their attendance. PCSO Cleveley read out the minutes from the previous meeting.
Parking at Tissington Village
A meeting took place at Tissington Hall to discuss the Tissington Traffic Plan (TMP) with interested parties attending. All aspects of the issue of parking were discussed, but are still ongoing.
Parking at Kniveton School (Priority Issue)
SE explained that a letter had been received from a local MP regarding the parking issue outside the school after being contacted by a parent. A report had been sent in reply, pointing out that the issue was longstanding and a solution needed to be found. SE added that the DDC Environmental Highways Dept. were now looking at a Traffic Regulation Order (TRO), this would mean the extension of the zigzag markings and placing of appropriate signage as soon as it had been put out for public consultation and approved by all appropriate parties. Civil Attendants would be able to attend and deal with any offences. Until the TRO is accepted our ‘hands are tied’.
Any other business
SE informed the meeting of ‘Community SpeedWatch’. This scheme was up and running in many of the villages. The training would be given by the Sgt and then the volunteers actually use the equipment and fill in the appropriate paperwork. A PCSO would be in attendance to assist. It was pointed out that there would be no enforcement, but a letter is sent out to the driver to inform them of their speed. Continue Reading »

Defra has launched a consultation on National Park governance, that is how the National Park Authorities take into account people’s views. You can find out more about this consultation at the Defra website or at the Peak Park website, and can respond to either or both.
Defra say:
Defra’s draft Structural Reform Plan published on 16 July delivers the coalition agreement commitment ‘to review the governance arrangements of National Parks in order to increase local accountability’.
Although the majority of the National Park Authorities have broadly similar governance arrangements, it is felt that the most effective way to undertake the Review is for each Authority to consult locally on potential changes which would work best for their areas, whilst at the same time reflecting the status of the Parks as national assets. This consultation does not therefore contain proposals for any particular structures or arrangements, but instead provides a remit for the Review on which each Authority will base local consultation.
This consultation invites comments from any organisation or individual who wishes to respond. Comments should in the first instance be directed to Defra who will forward copies to the relevant Authority for consideration. If comments are not specific to any individual Authority, these will be considered directly by Defra.

Our green bin went AWOL on Thursday.I left it full for collection and returned to find it had vanished! Perhaps it got damaged and the council removed it, but before I contact them, just wanted to make sure it hasn’t turned up elsewhere. Second session of circuit training starts at 6pm, this Thursday in the Memorial Hall. For those of you that didn’t manage to make it last week, it is run by Mark “ReMARKable U All Body Circuit Training”. The session lasts about an hour is is only £4 per person. All you need is suitable exercise trainers/clothing and a bottle of water. Anyone over the age of 14 is welcome no matter what your level of fitness is. Under 14’s should be accompanied by an adult.
