Local artist Lewis Noble is running a Summer School based at his studio in Parwich during August. This will run for two weeks Mon-Fri 17-21 Aug and 24-28. You can attend for either week or both. The sessions will provide the opportunity to work alongside a professional artist, with the aim to create finished pieces of work from initial conception through development of your ideas and working practice.

Hi there!
I just want to say how much I like your site!
I have no links with Parwich now, which makes me feel very sad, but after viewing your site I have a warm glow and stimulated memories.
My father’s was Frank Gibbs, brother of Leonard, Harold,Jessie,Audrey and Kenneth, son of Charles and Norah who lived on Lenscliffe. If any of your viewers have any information or photographs about any of them I would be very, very grateful. Also if anyone has any information of a Christina McMicking, who I never knew but have a piece of writing which she wrote about my father when he became Mayor of Glossop in 1960, I would love to be able to contact her or members of her family.
Parwich is held in soft spot in my heart and will always remain so. The fun I had at Wakes week as a child and even more fun as a teenager!

If we get any clear nights over the next fornight and you’re out after midnight, lie down on the ground away from bright lights, look up into the night sky and admire the meteor showers that we will be seeing in our skies. The best time to see them is between midnight and dawn. The showers should get better and better each night until they reach peak activity on the night of Wednesday 12 August, when you should be able to see as many as 60 “shooting stars” flying through the sky every hour. JF-S / Graham / Mike H / Colin B / any other local photographers – a photo of a shooting star over Parwich would be fantastic.

Though it does not seem to be a current problem, we are at that time when car break-ins increase in the car parks on the trails and quieter lanes. Locally Minninglow and Alsop Station car parks are possible targets.
Try not to leave any valuables in the car, and put jackets, handbags, etc out of sight in the boot.
If you see anything suspicious contact the Police 0345 1233333 (non emergency, for suspicious incidents, etc, requiring prompt attention, and routine calls) or Crimestoppers 0800 555 111 (call anonymously with information about crime).

At least the rain held off for yesterday’s wedding; the bride and groom looked very handsome driven off in an open carriage. Best wishes to you both.

Yesterday afternoon (Friday 24th July) a man in a car stopped near the Memorial Hall to ask an eight year old girl directions to another village. The chances are this was just what it appears to be, someone asking for directions, however the mother, when the child told her about it, was left with an uneasy feeling. Consequently she asked us to put this post on the Blog.
One of the things we value in our community is a sense of security, and the freedom our children have. Nevertheless, it is also important not to be too complacent.

Tom Chambers and other members of the Waterloo Road cast were photographed by the Manchester Evening News at a show in Manchester. It was the Lady Boys of Bangkok, and the paper’s website has a couple of excellent photos.
Tom is filming for his new role in Waterloo Road as head teacher of the enlarged school. He will appear on our TVs in the Autumn.

While we are away on our summer holiday, my sister and her two kids will be having their summer holiday at our house. Her kids are 18 months and 3 and a half years old. As we arrived here when our kids were a bit older than that, I don’t know all the best local places to take small children. Carsington and Chatsworth are the two obvious ones I can think of but does anyone have some more suggestions? Other ideas are welcome too – for example, good places to take kids to eat. Mrs Black`s and Mrs Williamson`s Leaving party 22/07/09
This afternoon saw the leaving party at Parwich Primary School of Joanne Black and Diane Williamson.
What a lovely afternoon it turned out to be. The children gave a presentation of music and song to the teachers, parents and friends, followed by gifts flowers and afternoon tea.
It was a lovely atmosphere and enjoyed by all who attended. We wish them both well in the future.

Click here to download the entry form. Don’t worry if you don’t get the form off in time, you can also register on the night of the race at £5, though make sure you allow enough time.

The organisers of the Parwich Panoramic Five Fell race are delighted to announce that one of Royal Crown Derby’s exciting new porcelain figurines – appropriately enough a fast cat, has been kindly donated as first prize for the race by Mr Hugh Gibson, Chairman of the famous Derby based fine China manufacturer.
The figurine of the Cheetah is one of a pair produced by top Crown Derby designer Carmen Roome, and there is a companion piece, the baby cheetah so this is part of a mother and baby couple.
The Royal Crown Derby Porcelain Company is a locally owned Company employing about 200 people and manufactures the highest quality English Fine Bone China at its factory on a four and a half acre site on Osmaston Road in Derby. The Company produces bone china tableware, giftware and collectables, for sale primarily in china and glass retailers and department stores, both in the UK and overseas. There is also a popular Visitor Centre at Osmaston Road, providing factory tours, museum, factory shop and restaurant. The present factory was established in 1878 but the business traces its origins to the original factory, which was set up in Nottingham Road in about 1750. Queen Victoria granted permission to include the title “Royal” in the company name in 1890.
The organisers of the Parwich Panoramic Five are delighted to receive such a generous donation which will make a fitting memento for the eventual overall winner of the race, alongside other trophy’s and shields for other race category’s . We have also received an extremely generous donation by Marks and Spencer’s of 100 chocolate lollies, so every junior race entrant will each receive their own tasty memento of the race.

After many years’ service to Parwich Primary School, Mrs Black and Mrs Williamson are leaving. Excellent news, a new vicar has been appointed to the group benefice of Alsop, Fenny Bentley, Parwich, Thorpe and Tissington. It is the Rev. Dr. Andy Larkin, who will be moving to our parish at the beginning of January.
Andy Larkin says of himself:
At present, my family and I live in Brailsford and I work as Curate in five parishes to the south of Ashbourne.
Previous to that, I worked as a chaplain at the Derby Hospitals and as a Curate at St Peter’s, Littleover.
My wife Jo is a secondary school psychology teacher, currently working part time at The Ecclesbourne School in Duffield.

It is with great sadness that Parwich and District Horticultural Society have made the decision to not hold their annual show this year. At a committee meeting held last week there was much discussion regarding alternative venues, due to the rebuild of the Memorial Hall, and possible changing the format of the show.
However, it was decided that it would be better to `have a year off` rather than run a sub standard show.
With the new Memorial Hall due to be ready for next year’s show we hope that all exhibitors will help us to make use of the new facilities by ensuring that the Main Show in 2010 will be bigger and better than before.
Don’t forget about next week’s trip; the Hanging Basket competition currently taking entries; or the Bob Matthews Quiz that will take place on the evening of Thursday 8th October at the Sycamore Inn.
