As in previous years, it would be great if parents/families could please bring along donations of party food for everyone to share.

If you are wondering what to bring, this may give you some idea. If you could bring a couple of items from the list, enough for your own children/family (or maybe a little more!) and then everyone shares, it should work out OK!

Sandwiches – Crisps etc – Veg sticks/salad – Cocktail sausages or other savouries – Cakes – Biscuits – Fruit

All hot drinks and soft drinks will be provided by the PTA.

If you have any questions, please ask Sam L (477), Sally P, or Mandy N.

150th Anniversary Balloon Launch

REMINDER: the balloon launch takes place tomorrow (Thursday), so this is your last chance to buy tickets!

Continuing with their 150th anniversary celebrations, Parwich Primary School are holding a Balloon Launch.

On Thursday 14th July, starting at 2pm, each of the fifty children will launch a balloon to celebrate education at Parwich Primary School.

Each Parwich Primary School child will be given a balloon, free of charge, to release on the afternoon. However, everyone else needs to purchase one!

This means that the school has 100 balloons to sell, to make this event a success!

Each balloon can be bought for a minimum donation of £2.

To be in with a chance to win, all you have to do is:

1. Click here to open the order slip, then print it off. Parents will already have received paper versions of the slip.

2. Fill in the slip, completing your details for the label as you want them to appear.

3. Turn up on Thursday July 14th at 2pm, to be part of a fab afternoon, with hope for a clear day.

4. Look forward to your balloon travelling the furthest, so you’re in with a chance of winning a first prize of £25, a second prize of £15, or a third prize of £10.

Anyone can purchase a balloon and there is no limit to the number you are permitted to buy.

All money raised goes towards our ‘Celebration Garden’ which will begin to take shape during September and October and will provide an amazing outdoor learning environment for all our children.

For anyone who has paid for tickets, your money can be given back to you or the tickets will still be valid for the re-scheduled ball in the autumn.

Would you please contact the original person that you purchased your tickets from, and they will be able to give you more information.

Anyone who has purchased raffle tickets can be assured that these also will go forward to be drawn on the re-scheduled evening.

If you wish to contact me for more information, you can do so on 390552.

I have 2 tickets for Sunday 17th July 10.30am at the Buxton Festival (excellent seats 2nd row)

Will Hutton – Them and Us: Politics, Greed and Inequality
17 July, 10.30am. Opera House

Will Hutton’s latest book shows how our society has fragmented into inequality and sets out a powerful and brilliantly argued call for a fair society. His heartfelt campaign is for no less than a radical transformation of Britain, from its political system, media, and its over-reliance on big finance to the very values we live by. Writer, columnist and former editor of The Observer, Will Hutton musters convincing arguments for political change based on a firm moral framework, and his book is certain to inform the current affairs agenda for some time to come.

Tickets: £10

Please let me know if you can use them.

Another extremely successful Wakes Week is over and thanks must go to everyone who took part, spectators, participants, organisers and helpers, but without the hard work of the committee who meet, plan and co-ordinate the events we wouldn’t have this amazing week.  So special thanks to Kerry Allsop, Janet Bainbridge, Sandra Chadfield, Roger Cundy, Liz Edge, Denis Laycock, Alan & Barbara Lowes, Paula Lynam, Sharon Swindell and Karen Wigley.

Next year’s Wakes begins on Saturday 30th June 2012.

The rest of this article contains all the Wakes posts and is a shortcut to any event or photo you may have missed. (more…)

The Masquerade Ball is scheduled to taked place on Saturday July 16th. Tickets are priced at £20, and they can be purchased from Tracy Marshall, Mandy Noble or Sally Peat. Alternatively, please ring 01335 390552 for further details.

Message from the organisers:

Ticket sales for this event, for whatever reason, have been very slow and we are becoming concerned as to whether this event should take place or not.

If you are interested in attending The Masquerade Ball and have not yet purchased your tickets, would you please do by  TONIGHT, so that we can assess whether to proceed with the event or whether to cancel or postpone it to a later date.

It would be incredibly disappointing to cancel or postpone, as we have put a great deal of effort into organising this event to co-inside with Parwich Primary School’s 150th year anniversary.

Due to lack of government funding, the PTA work very hard to raise money for the school to ensure that the children do not miss out on their educational needs, by raising money for educational trips, books etc.

So, please support this event if you can. We promise it will be a fantastic evening with exceptional food, a magician, music and wine! The only stipulation is a mask (which you don’t have to wear all evening) and no jeans or trainers (you don’t need a ball gown or tuxedo to have a good time).

BUT: please don’t forget buy your tickets by tonight –  Friday July 8th.

A free guided walk through wildflower-rich hay-meadows, and the chance to search for the elusive “Ratty”, is on offer on Monday July 4th in the Bletch Brook Valley, between Parwich and Tissington.  Meet at 6.30pm outside The Sycamore

Peak District National Park ecologists and experts from the Derbyshire Wildlife Trust will lead the walk, looking out for rare species including the water vole, known as “Ratty” in Kenneth Grahame’s Wind in the Willows. One of the UK’s most threatened species, the water vole has disappeared from 90 per cent of sites it occupied over the last 60 years. But it does survive in pockets of the Peak District National Park – including the Bletch Brook Valley.

The two-hour walk starts from two meeting places, both at 6.30pm on July 4th: outside the Sycamore Inn in Parwich, and in front of Hand’s Well in Tissington. There is no need to book. Dogs should be on leads. If you have any questions, please call 01298 84992.
