Andrew and Ruth Collie [Rowan Cottage] would like to thank everyone we have met for their warm welcome to Parwich. We moved from Kent on April27th and managed to get everything unpacked between snow showers! We have brought Jenny our dog and three hens with us. Our three children Mark, James and Thomas are all living and working elsewhere but have visited over the summer.

Meet More New Neighbours

viv__jon_micklefield

Viv and Jon Micklefield have recently moved into Gardeners Cottage (previously home to Sue and Alan Purvis). After taking the plunge to relocate from Surrey, they’d set their hearts on living in the Peak Park and can’t believe their luck to have discovered Parwich. Viv is a freelance feature writer and is already starting to explore the local area on foot, whilst Jon who works for the automobile industry will take to pedal power at any opportunity, up hill and down dale. They are both looking forward to becoming part of village life.

Best Wishes to Janet and Rosie

hill race 142The Blog Team wish Janet and Rosie all the best in their new endeavours and their new home. It was nearly sixteen years ago that Janet took on the tenancy of the Sycamore Inn, and as well as all the hard work in maintaining a genuine local pub, she took on the shop, welcomed local groups and societies, for many years she was booking secretary for the Memorial Hall, provided a local collection point for prescriptions and directed countless delivery drivers, and much more.

imageAlso there was the unseen support given to many, from phone calls to lifts, to such as looking after the man with presenile dementia who had lost his walking group until the Police could trace his carers. A local pub and shop are often imagethe first place people go for information or help.

Also a big thank you to Steve for the many years he did a full day’s work farming, then greeted customers from behind the bar with a smile and friendly chat.

Thank You JFS

The Blog Team said thank you to JFS yesterday over a cream tea. JFS has been a photographic stalwart, recording nearly every Parwich event for our website. It has been a mammoth task which he has approached not only with quiet fortitude but also displaying considerable artistic skill . We hope that he will continue to bring his camera with him every time he comes to Parwich.

Thank you so much for the silver swallow, a beautiful piece of delicate work. It was suggested that an ear lobe would be the place to wear it. However it will be placed on my sun hat. I will treasure it. JFS

It is with mixed feelings that we post these great swallow photos, as we are losing John and Marion to Winster. However we wish them all the best, and hope that this is not the end of his fantastic contributions to the Blog, though they will inevitablely become fewer. Also we hope to further mark John’s photographic involvement with parwich.org soon.

Noise from Fernlea

We would like to apologise to anyone who has been troubled by the sound of our son’s band recording this week.  Particularly to our new neighbour who has just moved in. This will definitely finish today (Friday) as they will be going their separate ways. It seems that the roof lets through more sound than we expected when this experiment was planned so we won’t be repeating it. Thank you for your patience. Andrew & Nina M.

Goldstraw Family at Crown Cottage

Christine B (née Goldstraw) has put several posts on our Facebook page asking if people remember her late grandparents (see https://www.facebook.com/parwich/ – Visitor are posts lower down on the left hand side of the page).

Can anyone in the village remember my late grandparents? Left with hat on Mr Clifford Goldstraw, next to him Harriet Goldstraw. They lived at Crown House, Parwich.

Crown House, formerly the Crown Inn and the original home of the Parwich Oddfellows, is now called Crown Cottage.
