We have received the following request:
Does anybody know how to find out if there are any records that would show past cricket matches played in Parwich? It’s for a friend of mine, Wayne Ward, his Great-Grandad’s name was Arthur Smith, he had some cricket playing brothers (Les and Lawrence) and his Dad (Charlie Smith) and one or possibly both of his uncles (George Smith and William/Bill Smith) were cricketers too. He is trying to find out if any written records might exist. He has a 1910s or 20s photo which shows his Great Grandad’s Dad and Grandad (team manager), but other than knowing that Arthur Smith and his brothers were cricketing well into the 1940s and probably beyond, he doesn’t know much else! Any information would be greatly appreciated.

The society is committed to following guidelines set out by the government. A risk assessment will take place, and nearer the time we shall update the village on operations and how it will work according to government instructions and to ensure the safety and well-being of all who attend.

Can You Help With Information about the Death of Ian Mellor?
The family of a man who died in an incident in Tissington are urging the public to come forward with information to help the investigation into his death. Ian Mellor was found by police and paramedics in a blue Ford Focus in Chapel Lane, Tissington, at around 2.30am on Thursday 9 July. Ian, who was from Bradbourne, was taken to the Royal Derby Hospital where he died on July 21.
Officers are now making enquiries into the hours prior to the 37-year-old being found and his family are urging anyone with information to come forward. Ian’s mother, Sheila, said: “Ian was a much-loved son, brother and partner and was well known in Bradbourne – as well as Ashbourne and Matlock where he was a regular drinker in a number of pubs. He was a hugely social person and his death has come as a huge shock to his family and friends. I know there must be people who saw Ian the night before he died and I would ask you please, for the sake of his family and friends, please come forward and tell the police anything you might know.”
Anyone with who may have seen Ian between 6.30pm on Wednesday 8 July and 2pm on Thursday 9 July is urged to contact Derbyshire police. It is understood Ian was in the Ashbourne and Parwich areas and any drivers with dashcam footage that may have captured a blue Ford Focus, number plate AK08 TRT, are asked to download any footage and store it safely for an officer to view.
Anyone with information can contact Derbyshire police in confidence using any of the below methods, including reference 20*350106 in any correspondence:

Although demand concerns persist, Brent crude hit a five-month high this, week passing $45 a barrel as U.S. crude oil inventories fell for the third week in a row with larger than expected draws on US oil stocks. Delivery times are currently 5 to 10 working days.
NOTE Due to Covid-19 some suppliers are no longer leaving delivery dockets (PODs) at the time of delivery, they will be sending them via post after delivery instead. Due to current delays with the postal service in some areas, please allow a week or so for them to arrive.

There’s a mains water leak on Creamery Lane next to the playing field and opposite Blanche Meadow Farm. The field and road are now quite wet! Severn Trent are aware and we are waiting for an update on when they will attend.

District councillors agreed last night (12 August) to provide extra funding to Freedom Leisure to enable the reopening of Derbyshire Dales leisure centres in Ashbourne, Matlock and Wirksworth with reduced hours and new Covid safety measures. View the meeting again on our YouTube channel. The actual reopening date and operating hours will be announced by Freedom Leisure after a period of mobilisation.
A fourth leisure facility operated on behalf of the council by Freedom – Bakewell Swimming Pool – will remain closed for a further two months after councillors heard that the small size of the facility made current social distancing requirements unworkable.
At the same meeting, councillors agreed to provide financial support to Serco to help the implementation of a new waste & recycling contract. The costs of the unavoidable impact of delays to the delivery of new refuse collection vehicles – associated with manufacturer shutdowns during Covid-19 – are being shared with Serco. Read more >>

I have discovered many small pieces of glass all along the road at the top of Creamery Lane outside Rathbourne Court. I have a suspicion that the recycling waste lorry has been leaking the glass, and I am planning to ask the Council to send a road sweeper to clear it up (we have already cleared the road, but the pieces are tiny).
If you see any glass in other parts of the village, can you please let me know, so that I can inform Derbyshire Dales.
