Derbyshire Dales District Council’s car parks remain open during the coronavirus outbreak for the benefit of local residents who are working from home or making essential visits as set out by Government.
However, on Tuesday evening (24 March) the council put up clear signage asking motorists if they needed to be there and to follow current Government coronavirus measures (poster attached).
Parking charges will be suspended temporarily until further notice.

Bin collections are being impacted by the coronavirus outbreak.
Staff absences due to self-isolation measures mean garden waste collections will be suspended from Friday to enable our teams to focus on recycling and general household waste collections.
Food waste will be collected fortnightly – with household waste – rather than weekly.

We’ve had a message from Liz up at Minninglow Grange, they’ve had an older border collie arrive on their land, it only has one eye and although it has a collar there are no details on it. They’ve managed to shut it into one of their barns for now – does anyone know who it may belong to?

We’ve just received the following message from Saskia: I have a partly dis-assembled cardboard toy castle. Hobbycraft, 91x91x81 cm. Already skilfully (?!) coloured in by my grandkids, but has a bit of play-life left in it for bored little ones (4-5 yrs?). I’m happy to drop it off in/near the village.

I bought meat from Andrew Holmes Butchers in Tissington yesterday and he told me he is able to take telephone orders.He also has an arrangement with Fresh Choice vegetables of Ashbourne in that they will deliver telephone orders to him and keep them in their cold room so that you can collect both veg and meat orders at once. A great help as it obviously avoids the necessity to travel into Ashbourne

We have been informed by East Midlands Ambulance Service that for the time being, owing to lack of personal protection, First Responders will NOT be dispatched to Cardiac Arrests or to breathing difficulties and suspected Covid 19 cases. This means that we will only really be sent to stroke or choking casualties.
In case of medical emergency ALWAYS dial 999 . A First Responder will be dispatched if one is on duty. We will be providing reduced cover as some of our group are self-isolating in line with government guidelines.
There is a static defibrillator at the pub and the access code will be provided when you call 999.
If you fancy refreshing your CPR skills in the event of needing to assist during a cardiac arrest please take a look at a YouTube video such as the one below from the British Heart Foundation featuring Vinnie Jones.

As people start to social distance and in, some cases completely isolate, I’ve put together a collection of books and DVDs which anyone is welcome to take. They are placed on a small bookcase outside my home, 8 Sycamore Cottages.
Whilst I am well and have been social distancing for over a week now, I have spritzed the items with alcohol spray just to make sure. Fellow villagers are also welcome to take, swap and leave their own books and DVDs.
My favourite genres are a bit dark so you’ll find mysteries and gothic horror mostly with a few biographies, memoirs, historical fiction and lighter topics. DVDs include musicals and Downton Abbey.
It would be nice if any has spare children’s books to leave them for other villagers who are homeschooling. A spritz of spray on all donations would also be appreciated but I’ll check throughout the weekend too as it’s meant to be bright and clear so I’ll keep it out until Sunday evening.
In a couple of weeks, I’ll repeat the exercise.

I am reminded by Lucy M’s lovely suggestion that I have been dilatory in putting this on the blog.
This is a special invitation to the youngest members of our community.
Have you seen the fairy stools at Pump Hill Wood? There are three little seats located in places where you can sit and look around to see if you can spot a fairy. Sometimes they dance in the sunbeams, or in a gentle rain. You can also sit here and see animals in the distance, insects, small birds and different kinds of flowers. You can also close your eyes and make a wish. This magical place is changing every day as Mother Nature has taken charge.
Note to parents . Please, for the next few months, keep children on the paths. We need to ensure that what is lurking below the loose soil can thrive as it comes through.In addition, brambles are starting to poke through. In the next week or so we will have to spray the nettles, so straying into the planted areas is not a good idea. We will as a matter of course advise everyone when this happens, through the blog and with gentle reminders at the two entrances.

In these uncertain times how about a bit of light relief?? I’ve just seen a post on Facebook where neighbourhoods are drawing and putting up pictures of rainbows in their windows for local children to find on a rainbow treasure hunt. As a mother of two young children looking for some activities in the village to keep my kids entertained how about it? All you need to do is draw a picture of a rainbow and stick it in your window next week ready for us and others to spot.

I’m sure you are aware of the Government advice to avoid pubs and clubs. The purpose of this notice is to explain what the Parwich British Legion Club plans to do and the thinking that supports this decision.
We intent to remain open until instructed to close or until it is not financially viable.
We will manage risks by:
- Enforcing strict hygiene measures to reduce the risk of transmission
- Request all customers and staff wash their hands before entering the club
- Limit opening hours to 6pm to 10pm
- Request people pay by card rather than cash if possible
- Postpone all indoor special events
- If consistent with current guidance, we will consider outdoor events when the weather is good enough
We believe that remaining open represents a relatively low risk, having taken the following factors into account:
- We are a small club where most people are known to each other, with few guests from outside the village
- At risk individuals will have taken appropriate steps to self-isolate
- Staff are in favour of and support remaining open
As this is a rapidly changing situation, you will be updated of any changes to this position.
Lastly, we would like to thank all our staff and customers for their support and understanding during this unusual and particularly difficult time.

Unfortunately, due to the Coronavirus situation we have had to cancel the St. George’s day parade and will be postponing the duck race.
We hope to run the duck race at a later date so for those who have purchased ducks they will be raced at some point or if you prefer you can get a refund from the person you bought them from.

Thanks to the suggestion by Lynette Coyne the Community Team of some 10 boys came last Sunday to clear and repair the church paths , they were here for 5 hours and I was with them for 3 hours and their performance under the guidance of Mel and two other guys was outstanding. They are returning again another day later in the summer maybe for further maintenance work. Stuart C.

We will be having our cash and carry delivery on Thursday if there is anything anyone in Parwich needs or are struggling to get then let us know by wednesday 12 pm and if it’s available we can pop it on the order. We are also going to get bread deliveries if you would like to order bread sliced, unsliced loafs, baps, cakes etc please message or call and we can have these delivered on pretty much a daily basis. Please call 390212. Also for people who aren’t aware we do take away food from snacks such as sandwiches jacket potatoes to full meals so if you are stopping at home and isolating and require a take out you can collect from us or we could deliver to you with a little bit of notice. The takeaway menu will be published shortly.

Derbyshire Police and Crime Commissioner Hardyal Dhindsa has taken action on public concerns over speeding – pledging additional funding to expand community speed monitoring across all corners of the county.
The Commissioner, who recently announced the addition of two new full-time posts to coordinate and manage the county’s Community Speed Watch (CSW) programme, has now revealed funding for 20 new ‘grab bags’ containing speed monitoring equipment, which will be deployed to all policing units in Derbyshire.
Speeding remains the most frequently raised issue in all of Derbyshire’s towns, villages and neighbourhoods.
Acting on the concerns raised during the PCC’s countywide #D383 tour, Mr Dhindsa has pledged to expand CSW and make it easier for local people to proactively address problems in their villages and neighbourhoods to reduce road traffic collisions. Continue Reading »

Christine Williams, our faithful church organist, is moving from Brassington
to North Wales at the end of the month. Today in church we thanked her for
25 years of service, and gave her a cheque towards her purchase of a tenor
saxophone. Christine has not only played the organ but also assembled and
directed choirs for our special services. Happy moving!
