Christmas Tree Recycling

Derbyshire Dales have updated their Christmas tree recycling information:

image

Simply place your real tree at the edge of your property on your green/recycling day collection (between 5 – 29 January). Trees should be no longer than 5 feet in length so it may be necessary to break/saw the tree into a manageable size. Please remove the decorations and plant pot.

You can also take it to your nearest household waste recycling centre. It will then be composted along with other garden materials.

Use the easy postcode search to check which containers to put out and also to download your 2016 collection calendar >> www.derbyshiredales.gov.uk/mycollection

* Check out more Christmas recycling tips at www.derbyshiredales.gov.uk/christmasrecycle

So this means we can put out our Christmas trees on the next green garden waste bin days, which here in Parwich are Wednesday 13th and Wednesday 27th of January.

Brook Level Rising

The brook at Nethergreen is just about at the top of the bank and the water is roaring down.  If you are near the brook at any point through the village it is worth checking that no debris is being brought down with the force of the water. Apparently the banks have burst in Pits Lane.

Double Bin Collections Start This Week

image

Double bin collections start this week

A reminder that in addition to your scheduled recycling (blue bin/blue bags) collections, household waste collections are happening this week and next (w/c 21 and 28 December) to help with the usual build-up of festive throw-away material. So don’t forget to put out your grey bins/black bags this week and next.

To help prioritise household waste collections, all garden waste (green bin/compostable sacks) collections are suspended during these two weeks.

Food waste collections will continue to happen weekly and recycling collections fortnightly.

Every household in the district received a Christmas and New Year collections timetable in the October issue of our Dales Matters publication, and a collection calendar is also available to view or download online at http://www.derbyshiredales.gov.uk/mycollection

Usual collection days apply Monday-Thursday this week but will be generally later than usual from Christmas Day throughout the festive period.

* Check out our Christmas recycling tips at www.derbyshiredales.gov.uk/christmasrecycle

Many thanks

Fracking In National Parks

Previous Blog comments indicate this is an issue of interest to our readers. Last Thursday the Government reversed their previous assurances and gave the go ahead in principal for the extraction of shale gas by ‘fracking’ (the injection of water and chemicals into shale beds to release the gas) within National Parks. It is not known if any companies will be interested in exploring for shale gas in the Peak District or in our immediate area, though there are shale beds under much of the local parishes.

There is now a Parliamentary petition asking the government to reverse this decision. Click on the image below to access this petition:
