December free parking again in the Dales

PRESS RELEASE

21 November 2024

2024/059

Parking will be free again across the Derbyshire Dales in the District Council’s car parks in the run up to Christmas.

In a scheme designed to boost trade, for the 17th year in a row it will be free to park in any District Council pay and display car park after 2pm throughout December.

Free parking in December comes on top of residents’ parking concessions that allow local people to park free every day of the year up to 11am and after 3pm. Free parking permits were issued to all 34,000 households across the Derbyshire Dales back in March.

It means Dales residents have free parking for 21 hours each day over the festive period, which helps local people and local traders.

Again this year, to support the Council’s 2030 net zero carbon emissions target, the authority is also urging visitors and residents to support Dales businesses by making best use of public transport, car sharing, cycling and walking where possible.

EV charge points are available in four of the council’s car parks:

  • · Market Place, Wirksworth – one charger accommodating two spaces/vehicles at any one time
  • · Edgefold Road, Matlock – four chargers accommodating 8 spaces/vehicles
  • · Shawcroft car park, Ashbourne – four chargers accommodating 8 spaces/vehicles
  • · New Street, Bakewell – four chargers accommodating 8 spaces/vehicles

Cycle racks are also available in the District Council’s car parks in Bakewell’s Granby Road, Eyam, Over Haddon, Matlock Bath’s Station Yard, with two in Matlock at the Lido and Station car parks. Cycle lockers are available at Ashbourne Leisure Centre

Dog mess – AGAIN

We haven’t had to say this for a while but the irresponsible owners are back! I’ve just had to pick up two big piles of dog mess on Parsons Croft. The field is regularly used for multi school events and  children are often playing on there and this just isn’t acceptable. The dog mess is from a large dog and it isn’t a small amount!

We will all be keeping an eye out and if anyone is spotted leaving dog mess they will immediately be reported for a possible fine.

If you are using Parsons Croft for dogs, which like many I do too, then be responsible take your dog to the bottom of the field to do its business away from where the kids play and PICK IT UP! Don’t just let them run and not watch them or worst is walking a long way in front of them with no idea of what your dog is doing as we see you and we will report you.

So I’m bringing back my old ditty..don’t be a moron and face a big fine, bag and bin it and everything will be fine.
