Last summer one of my hens was killed by a local dog being walked by it’s owner. My hen was on the path which runs alongside my property and the hen should not have been out. It has just happened again, involving two other local people with dogs.
Occasionally my free range hens push their free ranging to the limit and may get over the wall onto the path. They shouldn’t be there but at the end of the day they don’t pose a danger to any passing dogs. You would hope that the dogs wouldn’t pose a danger to the hens but it seems that there is a growing lack of awareness of other animals and livestock and an inability to train dogs to simple commands such as “leave” or “lie down”. I freely admit that I know very little about training a dog but it strikes me that the huge increase in dog ownership has not moved hand in hand with an appreciation of the need to train and control the dogs. Whether in the village or in a field, if you can’t control your dog in the presence of other animals (hens, cats, lambs etc.), the dog should be on a lead.

We have received the following from Charlotte Bradbury-Wilkinson. If you have any information please contact them direct..
To the person or people who think it is acceptable to drive onto our land and deface it in such a manner this is unacceptable. Yes cobblers nook lane runs through as a through route but it does not give people the right to do this to our land! On the field next to this was a group of dry cows, some of which are due to calve soon. This happened last night as the gates were left open incase the dry cows got out so they would go onto the adjacent field and not wander off down the lane or onto the road. Any one with details to whom may have done this please contact me.

Bradbourne Mill was acquired as a ruin some years ago and was restored and converted into accommodation. Since then it has changed hands and the new owners have done more restoration work and investigated the history.
They are offering the Parwich and Local District History Society a private tour and talk on 18th July (10am meet), to look round the building and the site and hopefully see some of the machinery in action.
There are a few places left… If you are interested please email parwich.history.society@gmail.com by 5pm 16th July.
£5per person, which includes refreshments

Wakes 2023 you have been awesome. What a week! We have had the most support and visitors we have had for several years. It’s been action packed and we are completely exhausted but happy to have seen so many friends new and old. We are a truly special village and we need to remember and try and maintain that as long as possible.
Wakes would not be possible without the help and support from so many volunteers, the Oddfellows, Kirsty, Jane and the Sycamore Team and everyone at the Legion. So from me to you thank you. It’s time for a rest now but we will be back in 2024.
I just wanted to leave you with one of my favourite photos of Wakes so far, showing one of our Carnival Committee going above and beyond.

Signing off for now

Thanks to David G for this fabulous series of pictures. The skill of eating without standing in his food is clearly yet to be learned by this youngster.

A fantastic write up and picture from Ashbourne Running Club following last night’s hill race – as always, a pleasure to have them join us.
” Parwich Hill Race – super turnout from the club with a special welcome to those running tonight who only recently started with us in our Thursday group.
Ewan Busfield (honorary ARC member?) took the win in style from Chris Patterson & Zach Lomas. Emily Sanders & Molly Busfield were second and third females, Ewan also took first to the top of the hill & Martin Wright won a cup & mug for most venerable runner.
The results took a while due to the rainstorm that hit the race and dissolved many race numbers but congrats & thanks to Parwich.org for sticking with it and giving us a great event. “
