Although temporarily derailed by a serious thunderstorm on Friday night, which caused power to all the stages to be temporarily shut down as a precautionary measure, this year’s sold-out Y Not Festival was once again a great success. Here are a selection of tweets and videos from the weekend.

What a fantastic Wakes Week. A big thank you to the Carnival & Recreation Committee, the Oddfellows, the Legion, the Sycamore and everyone who works so hard every year to make it such a success. (And the weather was OK too!)

With all the great photos and results that have been coming in, it can be hard to find all that has been posted at parwich.org, so here is a list of the 2013 posts (with links) in the order the events happened.

Also if you can fill any of the gaps in our reporting, please contact us via parwich@hotmail.co.uk.

A charity event is taking place at Hill Top Farm on Friday 21st June, in aid of the East Midlands Air Ambulance: a service which demonstrated its importance to our community earlier in the year.

The main attraction is a live band, Purple Cloud of Funk, who perform a wide range of well known covers. You can find out more about them on their Facebook page, and you can hear samples of their music on their official website.

“We are lucky to get local band Purple Cloud of Funk”, says Robert Gosling, “as they were on Radio 1 a couple of weeks ago!”

There will be a bar and a burger van, and camping is even available for those who might need it!

Tickets are £6 in advance and £7 on the door. For tickets and information, please contact one of the numbers shown on the flyer below.

Drawing plaudits from the likes of Radio 2 folk presenter Mike Harding (“This band is quite simply the top of the tree”), this should be a treat for folk fans. Samples of Tom’s work can be heard here.

Doors are at 7pm for a 7.30pm start. Support comes from Onecote’s singer/songwriter, Rick Ford. A licensed bar will be available.

Tickets are £12 each (£6 for children). They can be ordered from hopedalemusic@btinternet.com or by phoning (01335) 310322/310381.

Y-Not Festival 2013

ynot2013

The annual Y-Not Festival returns to Pikehall on Friday 2nd August, and runs until Sunday 4th August.

As two of last year’s acts – Jake Bugg and Bastille – have since topped the UK albums chart with their debut releases, this is clearly a great place to spot up-and-coming talent. Acts are still being added to the line-up, which already includes The Cribs, The Horrors, The Enemy and Ash. Further down the bill, perennial festival favourites Naymedici and King Pleasure & the Biscuit Boys are making welcome returns – and who knows, maybe Hazel B and The A52s will be rocking the acoustic tent again?

Tickets, which are for the full weekend only, can be bought from the official festival website – but if you’re 12 or under, then congratulations: you can get in for free!

Pianola for sale

Keith P writes:

As we are moving to a new house without room for our magnificent player piano (popularly known as a pianola) we wonder if anybody local would like to buy it.

It was built in Germany in 1923 by Ibach & Sohn, a premium brand. As soon as I purchased it, in 1985, I had it fully refurbished by a pianola company in London and it remains in good condition.

My piano tuner in London thought it was a lovely instrument with a good tone, virtually as good as a small grand piano. It comes complete
with around 200 mostly classical piano rolls.

I can put you in touch with a man who specialises in pianola maintenance and who used to look after it for me when I lived in Leicestershire. Offers please?

Inspection welcome at Fernlea House. Call Keith on 01335 390500 or 01684 576109

Thank you to Jane B for spotting this new musical phenomenon:

Four youngsters from Parwich could be the latest band to emerge from this small village, which already has a history of launching successful new musicians. The four, who still have to come up with a band name were heard to be practising on the corner of Croft Avenue and Creamery Lane, singing “We will, we will rock you”, using improvised instruments.

Eat your heart out Queen!

Now in its 7th year, Y Not is a festival whose annual growth is perpetual. Like a fine wine, it matures with age, and Y Not is now indelibly marked on the summer festival calendar; it’s no longer the tiny gathering in the Peak District that it once was.

The Nottingham Post have published an excellent – and very detailed – review of last weekend’s Y-Not festival. Click here to read it.

Parwich based singer songwriter Hazel B treated the Y Not Festival to a heartfelt and true to the heart performance on Friday.

The audience was captivated by Hazel’s self-penned songs, delivered with a refreshingly honest emotion. We hope to see her play the festival again next year.

Update: Here are some further excellent photos of Hazel’s performance, courtesy of Martin H:

Hazel B playing at Y-Not

Parwich singer-songwriter Hazel B from Hallgates will be playing at the Y-NOT festival on the Friday. At last year’s festival, Hazel performed a great set on the open-mike stage. She was then booked by the organisers to be on the main bill this year.

Some of Hazel’s new songs will shortly be available for free download by readers of PARWICH.ORG.

Tickets are still on sale for this year’s Y-Not Festival, which takes place from Friday August 3rd to Sunday August 5th at the usual location in Pikehall. The festival has expanded since its early days, with several indoor stages, an acoustic tent, an excellent beer tent and much more besides, but it still retains its friendly, small-scale atmosphere. As the organisers report that they are now close to selling out, swift action is recommended for those who might be interested.

Click here for the Y-Not Festival website.

Update: Also performing at Y-Not, in the Hog & Barrel tent at 7pm on the Saturday, will be Parwich’s very own The A52s.
