Welcome to Parwich to Lynn C and family, it is always good to have new contributors:

My son and his girlfriend were climbing at Cheedale (Wye Valley) yesterday and found a young buzzard with a broken wing at the base of the cliff. With only a blue IKEA bag to capture and carry the buzzard, they beat a hasty retreat back to McMurtry & Harding in Ashbourne. We thought people may like to see a close up shot of the bird. We are waiting to hear how the buzzard recovers.

A wedding on the Green

We would like to apologise in advance for any disturbance that we may cause to the village on Saturday night. Our daughter is getting married and the party afterwards may be rather noisy. We will turn off the music at 12.00 and will make every effort to be considerate to everyone in the village.

Thank you for your patience
Paul and Caroline

We are sure everyone will understand. Best wishes from all of us here at parwich.org for what will be a very special event. Have a wonderful day.

Orchard Farm

We wanted to let you all know that we have just made the sad (for us) decision to put Orchard Farm on the market. We have been very happy living here and have taken great pride and joy in running our two holiday cottages, Tom’s and Douglas’s Barns to the best of our ability, but the time has come for us to think, reluctantly, about downsizing.

Ideally we hope to stay in Parwich if we can find somewhere suitable when the time comes, but it will be a big wrench leaving Orchard Farm.

If any of you know anyone who might possibly be interested, do let them know. John German will be handling the sale and no doubt all the details will be on their website in a week or two. It will be marketed as a house ‘with letting potential’ and we hope to sell to someone who is eager to carry on running Tom’s and Douglas’s Barns so that it will be ‘business as usual’ as far as all our guests new and old are concerned. We have bookings into next summer.

Meanwhile it is all go up here at the moment. The photographer comes on Friday to take photos of the interior and as you can imagine an awful lot of sorting and clearing has to be done before then… Wish us luck!

John and Marion Fuller-Sessions

The Blog Team is sure we speak for all in wishing you a smooth transition, hopefully to another home in Parwich, not least because of John’s fantastic photographic contributions to parwich.org.

Parwich Studio Pottery Sale

This weekend sees a chance to purchase ceramics by an important local artist and academic. Ray Stone grew up in Ashbourne, where he began creating pottery whilst still in his teens. His work explored both traditional methods and highly innovative styles over a number of decades. After his death the retrospective exhibition of his work in Parwich Memorial Hall attracted a lot of interest, those who did not know Ray’s work could not but be impressed by is range and beauty.

The glamour of the Edwardians reached Parwich on Friday when Notty Hornblower, vintage fashion collector from Hope House Costume Museum, Alstonfield, staged a stunning catwalk show themed around the clothes worn during the Downton Abbey era and the First World War. Each outfit was modelled beautifully, accompanied by exquisite accessories and fascinating stories about the acquisition of each item. The evening, organised by Cheryl, was to commemorate the start of WW1 with the profits going to the Poppy Appeal and the Memorial Hall Fund.

Hello

Having spent the last two years travelling between Parwich and Wiltshire, Stuart and I will finally be moving to Parwich in August this year.

I have been teaching primary aged children with specific learning difficulties (dyslexia) from home for the last 7 years, having taught in school for 10 years before that, and will continue working from Spenedge from Summer this year. I am qualified, very experienced and passionate about working with children and supporting their parents. The one to one teaching is tailored to the individual child’s needs and adapted to his or her own pace, learning style and strengths. I create an environment where the pupil feels at ease and happy with an emphasis on improving self-confidence as well as basic skills in literacy and maths.

I am very happy to chat about a child’s needs and although sad to have to say goodbye to my current pupils, am looking forward to meeting new pupils and their parents in the near future.

I can be contacted on 07925 274265/ 01793 813666/ ronacampbell@btinterent.com and on 390653 from August.

Thank you to Graham J for this report of an intrepid group of local cyclists in South Africa:

A few weeks ago, 4 intrepid Parwich cyclists crossed the equator to meet up in glorious Cape Town and take part in the World’s biggest cycle race – the “Cape Argus”. After having trained through the depths of a Peak District winter, it was pure joy to be transported into high summer overnight, with the prospect of a legendary bike race to boot!
