New additions to Wheatsheaf cottage, three border terriers boys born 19th June, now racing around causing chaos and I think their mum Dora and great-granny Maisie will be glad to see the back of them when they go their new homes in mid- August.

Update on Smithy Lane Tabby

Thank you Margaret for this update:

The previous owner of the tabby cat who appeared in Smithy Lane last week, has been traced as the cat was microchipped.

Apparently this little cat had been rehomed from the village as a kitten 2 years ago and had gone to live in a town several miles away. Due to a change in family circumstances the cat had been brought back and subsequently escaped. Unfortunately she was in a very poor state when she was found. I took her to the vet used by Cheadle Animal Welfare Society, Meir Park Veterinary Hospital, where it was found that she had a broken tail and a huge abscess on her back. She has been put on a drip so will be staying in hospital for a few days. After which we will try to find her a new home once she has built up her strength. She weighed just 1.8kg and had become very weak.

She is a delightful little cat and I hope that she will soon be happy in a new home.

Missing/Homeless Cat?

Possibly missing cat spotted off Smithy Lane

Has anyone lost a very pretty brown tabby cat?

He/she may have been missing for a while as he/she is painfully thin and ravenously hungry. A very friendly cat who must have had an owner at some time. He/she has been passing through our garden for several days but always ran away until yesterday when he/she came for some food.

If you know who may have lost this cat please ring Margaret R on 01335 390369.

A Home For Tom Tom?

Following the interest in the post seeking to home the rescue dog that was fostered in Tissington, we are exploring the occasional post on other pets needing a home. Many of you will know of the work that Parwich resident Margaret R does in support of Cheadle Animal Welfare Society. As the holiday season approaches they find it particularly difficult to re-home animals so here is one of the cats they currently are seeking a home for:

CAN WE FIND A HOME FOR TOM TOM?

image

Tom Tom is such a lovely cat. He was born in October 2009 and had a loving home until February 2016. Sadly his owner is no longer able to care for him so he needs to find a new home.

In October 2011 he had a problem with his right eye and ended up having to have it removed, but he doesn’t have any problems with that. (more…)

Jill L has asked use to put out a request for newspaper again:

I am expecting puppies (at least the dog is!!) in June and as you will remember from the last time I need newspapers. Lots of people seem to read on line now, but if you still get an actual paper they would be very useful. I can collect, just call 353, or they can be left at my door. Should I have too many, I will be sure to recycle them.

Thank you

A Message from the Parish Council about Dog Fouling.

The Parish Council shares the concerns raised by a number of residents about dog fouling in the village. Bins and signs are provided to encourage owners to clear up after their dog.You may also wonder what further measures can be taken when problems persist. The following advice originates from Helen Spencer, Parks and Street Scenes Assistant at Derbyshire Dales District Council.

“If a witness comes forward to report that they have seen a dog fouling and their owner failing to clean up then we can issue a fine on the basis that the witness is willing to stand up in court if it gets that far. Evidence such as photos, time, weather, location, description owner or the dog would also help.
We can arrange for an enforcement officer to visit the area but we would need rough estimate of times that the dog fouling occurs. There also may be a charge for the officers time.”

Please note that if you wish to come forward as a witness you will need to report this to Derbyshire Dales yourself as the Parish Council cannot do this on your behalf.

If you believe you have made regular enough observations to justify the cost of requesting an enforcement officer please email clerk@parwichparishcouncil.org.uk with details and it can be considered at the next available meeting.

I work with a small Charity and we want to purchase a portable PA system to use at our events, but need some advice about what would be suitable and thought maybe there is someone who could give me that advice. A system with a wireless microphone would be ideal and one which can be used inside and out. Also the cost needs to be reasonable.

If you can offer any advice I would be very grateful.

Thanks, Margaret R

Dog Muck – Yuck!

Alan and I mowed the village millennium green yesterday (Bank holiday Monday). Whilst generally tidying up the area I removed 10 dog deposits.  Not pleasant.  Today I was on the green and without searching I discovered 2 new deposits.  Please please please can dog owners tidy up after their pets.

Last year the mowing contractors often moaned  to us about the dog fouling on this particular area of green.

It’s an asset that should be free of horrible dog muck so people can walk on it and enjoy the lovely view.

We think a well meaning person may be feeding our cat Dolly and welcoming her into their home, as she pops in occassionally, but isn’t a regular feature at Farm View House. Although this is very kind, we’d prefer if you didn’t as we rather like her and miss her (an awful lot).

Have you seen Dolly? She is a funny little thing. Very pretty, loving and can be quite nervous. We give her special medicine once a month which she needs.

Her and her stepbrother Bob had a bit of a spat, which may be why she ran away from home…but we think they can make up and be almost-friends.

Help reunite the quarrelling siblings!

Huge thanks,
The Webster Family

Dog Fouling

There have been reports of an increase in dog fouling in Parwich recently, particularly on the cricket pitch at Parson’s Croft. With Wakes only a couple of days away can people be especially vigilant, including around Parson’s Croft, Nethergreen football pitch and by the children’s play area.

 Peak District National Park Authority

Dog-walkers urged to scoop the poop on Peak District trails

People who exercise their dogs on trails in the Peak District National Park are being asked to dispose of their dog’s waste responsibly. With the onset of spring more people are using the trails to enjoy fresh air, take exercise and experience the landscape. However life on the trails is being marred by a litter problem.

The Monsal Trail, High Peak and Tissington Trails are some of the most popular traffic-free trails in the Peak District, enjoyed by walkers, cyclists and horse-riders, as well as dog-owners exercising their pets.

Emma Stone, who manages the national park trails, said: “Most people are considerate to others and use the trails responsibly. Sadly there are a few that spoil things for the majority by leaving litter, including dog waste.”

In some places dog waste litters the surface of the trail and in others people have bagged it and thrown it into bushes and trees.

Emma explained: “It is unpleasant and unhealthy for people to visit areas affected by dog-fouling which is why we are working with Derbyshire Dales District Council to address the issue on the trails. District councils have legal powers to enforce the duty of dog owners to clear up after their animals on public land.

“We want people to follow the countryside code which asks everyone to leave no trace of their visit. There wouldn’t be a problem if everyone took personal responsibility for keeping the national park litter-free, and that includes bagging dog waste and disposing of it in the appropriate bin, or taking it home.”

The national park launched a short animated film recently to help people understand how to act responsibly in the countryside, which includes keeping dogs on leads and removing their waste www.peakdistrict.gov.uk/learning-about/secondary-resources/do-this-video

For more advice read the Countryside Code at www.naturalengland.org.uk/countrysidecode

Has anyone seen or heard (because she is very vocal) my Seal Point Siamese cat.  She had been missing since early this morning which is unusual as she doesn’t normally go far or for very long.   Please could you check any garages or out buildings in case she is trapped.

Thank you.

Dog Found

10.40am Good News! Owner on his way to collect dog

We found this little dog in our garden this morning at 5AM. I walked around the village a couple of times with him hoping to find someone out looking for him or that he might lead me to his house but no luck.

We eventually decided to take him to the Vet in Ashbourne. He was a bit freaked out but very friendly and obviously well looked after. He has a chip so maybe the owner has been contacted already.

If anyone recognises him or knows his owner he is at Blenheim Vet Centre on the Airfield in Ashbourne 01335 342111 ask for Lisa.

Most dog owners are very responsible, but unfortunately those few that are not may give rise to considerable irritation:

This MUST stop!

Who on earth allows their dog(s) to roam and/or foul repeatedly and habitually on our shared drive off Creamery Lane? Almost always in the same spot, but sometimes also in our gardens.

It has gone on for months and months, and then stopped for a few weeks, only to start again a couple of weeks ago. A little earlier yesterday I found 5 piles, yes FIVE, one of which looked more like a pile of ‘sick’ with –what looked like- (dried) peas mixed in. The piles must have been deposited in a period of no more than 24 hours. It’s disgusting and it MUST stop. Why should I be clearing up after other people’s dogs? Dog owners: take FULL responsibility for your pooches!

Do you know whose dog(s) could be responsible, then let the PPC know and they will follow it up, possibly via the local police lady who has offered to help with this persistent and widespread problem.

This time it’s my exasperated words, next time I’ll post some pictures of steaming piles ….

Saskia T

On a personal note, I can sympathise: being opposite Saskia and having had to clear dog mess (medium to large sized dog, fed on dried food) most mornings for about a week before Christmas; from my lawn, gravel drive and even from some plants in pots.

Roaming Dogs

This morning my partner was confronted in our garden by two dogs, both without collars or identification, the dogs could be described as being a Rottweiler dog and the other was a white Staffordshire bull terrier.

These two dogs are wandering around the village unattended, so please be minded if your children are out at play.  Does anyone know who these dogs belong too?

A range of people have asked the Parish Council to take action in relation to the ongoing dog fouling problem in the village:

image

It has been brought to the attention of Parwich Parish Council that there has been an increase in the number of incidents of dog fouling in the village.

This is of serious concern to members of the parish council and residents but is of particular concern to the staff at the primary school as dogs have been allowed to foul the public areas used by children. The affected areas include: the pedestrian walk way down to the school from Kiln Lane; the former cricket pitch, football pitch areas and the problem is also regularly occurring on other public areas such as village greens, playground areas and the rear of the Memorial Hall.

The health of vulnerable young children is of great concern to the school staff and the parish council members. The practice of allowing dogs to foul these areas must cease.

It was my misfortune to witness a cat being killed by a vehicle this morning, I have picked it up. Please contact me at Green Gates to collect. It’s only a young cat, black and white with a bell on its collar. Always hanging around this area on pump hill.

I wish I didn’t have to raise the issue of dog fouling again, but having had to clear one from the side of our drive a couple of days ago and having run the mower into another one in the tall grass in front of the ‘egg shed’ on Creamery Lane today (which has been a favourite spot in the past!), it’s time to remind ALL dog owners to clear up after their dog AND never allow them to roam around the village. It’s so annoying.

Is it time for a dog rogues’ photo gallery on the blog so we can identify the doggy culprits, (and next step if the problem persists:  name & shame the owners?!).

Although several of my S/C cottage visitors bring a dog, I have never seen their dogs being allowed to roam unaccompanied, and they always seem to clear up the mess. If ever you suspect otherwise, let me know please (440).   Thank you.

UPDATE David G found Jack this morning (Mon) being mobbed by jackdaws on Creamery Lane. He is now back at home, dishevelled and somewhat distressed but safe. He has also taken to imitating jackdaws and a growling dog so has learnt a lot in his 24 hours of freedom!

Over the last couple of weeks a dog has been using our garden as their toilet. We have never seen the offending dog hence a round robin plea. The appearance of parcels on all my lawns today has made me see red especially as I stood in one of the piles!!!!!!

We close our gate and our garden is fairly well fenced so the particular dog is fairly agile.

If you suspect it might be yours do try and stop it jumping into my garden.

Many thanks

Denis (The Menace!)

When I read Margaret’s post heading, (Problem Cat) I was worried at first that she was referring to Jim’s black & white cat, Denis (the menace!!)

He is only about 9 months old and Jim rescued him, in Birmingham, about 3 months ago. However, he has ended up adopting me (the cat, that is!) & has taken to going to visit people, looking lost & appealing. (He’s very playful & cheeky.)

Fortunately, he has a collar on, though the name tag is a bit confusing because it still has Jim’s Birmingham address on it, with my phone number, for when Jim brought him over here with him at weekends. In the last 2 weeks he has visited the Old Post Office, the School & Lucy B’s, were he had a great time running around her house, playing!

Anyway, thanks (and apologies!) to everyone that phoned me to let me know where Denis was.

Denis is black, with white paws, mouth, whiskers and bib. (He looks quite like ‘Bob’ Deb’s cat.)  If he goes on any more visitations, my number is 01335 390554.

Problem Cat

Does anyone know the owner of a short haired, brown tabby unneutered Tom cat?  This cat comes to my house most days and is becoming quite aggressive towards my neutered female cats.  My worry is that because he is an unneutered Tom he may be carrying the feline leukaemia virus and/or the feline AIDS virus both of which can be transmitted to cats with whom he has fights or by mating with unneutered female cats.  Neither disease has a cure, although cats can be vaccinated to protect them from feline leukaemia.
Is this cat causing problems elsewhere in the village?
