There is no collection on bank holiday Monday (27 May) so all collections are one day later than usual that week, including a Saturday collection on 1 June (for usual Friday rounds). Details of which containers to put out can be found using our ‘when is my collection?‘ search facility.

Before mains water, local water sources and water management were essential for successful farming and ultimately survival. For example Parwich had an ‘ancient’ water meadow system designed to get grass growing as early as possible in the Spring to feed livestock as early as possible before the Winter feed stores were used up and the beasts had to be slaughtered.
The History Society hopes to undertake an archeology project investigating aspects of water management in our area. At this stage we are gathering what information we can about water usage in our area and also trying to find out what people are most interested in.
A lot of houses had their own water supply and there was a system of wells and springs serving the community as a whole.
The communal sources we know about are
There may have been other sources used communally such as the covered well behind West View or the step down well by Brook Cottage but we need confirmation of this.
Given mains water arrived here with in living memory, there is potential to gather what information and stories people have, in addition to studying the evidence of remaining features and of old maps.
Nether Green Farm itself has at least two wells, one of which a very unusual design for Derbyshire (so far the only parallels identified are in Cornwall), but also there are seasonal springs that fed the water meadow system and interesting but not yet understood underground water channels and sluices.
Come along on Sunday to perhaps find out where your house used to get its water from, help us map the water sources in Parwich and the surrounding area, share any information you might have, have a look around Nethergreen Farm or even participate in archeological investigations there.
Updated 26/4/19 Come for all or part of the day, 10am to 4pm Sunday 28th April, Nethergreen Farm.

Free Christmas tree recycling in the Dales
From 7 January Derbyshire Dales District Council will be helping local people recycle their real Christmas trees.
All residents have to do is place the tree at the edge of their property on their usual green/recycling collection day by 1 February and the tree will be composted along with other garden materials.
Any tree over 5ft in length must be broken or sawn down to a manageable size, with decorations and plant pots removed. Alternatively, trees can be taken to the nearest household waste recycling centre.
Plain Christmas cards and wrapping paper can be included in residents’ kerbside cardboard and paper recycling to be collected by the District Council’s contractor Serco. Foil-backed and glittery cards and paper should not be included, but placed in general household waste grey bins or black sacks.
Excess recycling can be placed at the side of recycling containers, but residents should make sure it is easily identifiable and suitably contained in a transparent container such as a stacker box rather than a black bag.
Any excess card, paper and magazines must be separated from other excess recycling such as glass, plastics, cans, beverage cartons, aerosols and foil trays. Cardboard should be flattened after removing all staples, packaging tape and polystyrene and bubble wrap. Any pieces that will not fit in a recycling container can be flattened and placed next to the container for collection – large cardboard boxes should be flattened and broken down into smaller pieces no wider than 0.5m to fit the recycling compartment of the collection trucks.
Small waste electrical and electronic equipment can be disposed of at one of the District Council’s electrical recycling banks in car parks at Lido, Matlock; Wirksworth’s Canterbury Road and Bakewell’s Granby Road.
Derbyshire Dales residents can use the online postcode search at http://www.derbyshiredales.gov.uk/collectioncalendar to check on their collection cycle, where they can also download and view their 2019 collection calendar.

Many residents will be familiar with the Limestone Way that traverses through Parwich but few will realise that 2020 will mark the 50th anniversary of its formal adoption as a long distance walking route. Much of the path has been used for 100s of years but it was only in 1970 that the route gained recognition as a long distance path. The trend to recognise such paths gave rise to the formation of the LDWA (Long Distance Walkers Association) in 1972. To mark the 50th anniversary of the path the LDWA have been looking for ways improve the walker experience and facilities along the route. As you are no doubt aware the recent activity by OpenReach around the area has resulted in upgrades to cabling into the village with fibre optics, FTTC and FTTP technologies and the new GFast making the old telephone exchange obsolete. BT and OpenReach estimate that the exchange will no longer be needed from late 2019. This has presented the LDWA in partnership with the National Park, Derby Dales and Staffordshire Moorlands councils the opportunity to provide a much needed new facility along the Limestone Way without the need for new building work in a conservation area. According to information on display in the National Park office in Bakewell the telephone exchange will be converted into an information centre providing an exhibition of the history of the limestone way, a small franchised coffee shop and ladies/gents toilet facilities. The latter particularly important for the large number of young families and older ramblers passing through the village since the closure of the public facilities on Creamery Lane.
There are also plans to involve villages along the route in celebratory events throughout 2020.

Catch up bin collections are due to start tomorrow weather permitting. Although that means they are then due to collect our grey general waste and food caddies tomorrow, we are not optimistic that the weather here in Parwich will permit this.
Click here for more info from Derbyshire Dales site
The catch-up of missed waste & recycling collections will start tomorrow (Saturday 3 March), assuming that road conditions have improved. Tomorrow crews will start to collect grey bins/blacks sacks/ food waste and recycling that have been missed this week – starting with Wednesday’s outstanding collections and then Thursday’s and Friday’s. On Monday scheduled grey bin/black sack/food and recycling collections are due to take place. Food waste missed on recycling day this week will be collected next week as scheduled with grey bin/black sacks.

Just to let any O2 users in the village know that there is apparently an issue with the mast according to O2, hence no service on mobiles; they are aware of the problem but because the mast is maintained by a third party they have no date for its resolution. I have had no coverage at all since Monday (don’t get much coverage at the best of times) but 02 have now arranged to route my mobile calls through my landline so if anyone else is experiencing the same problem and doesn’t wish to miss incoming calls then give your provider a call from your landline.

We have received the following press release from Derbyshire County Council.
Derbyshire Connect services to be rolled out countywide
Community transport users will continue to receive life-line services as Derbyshire Connect buses are rolled out countywide.
We have pledged to continue supporting Dial-a-Bus (DAB)- style ‘shopping’ buses and aCTive Travel journeys to healthcare appointments.
These services are for people unable to use conventional transport because of mobility difficulties or because they live in areas − usually rural − where public transport is limited.
A new Derbyshire Connect service has been trialled in the Ashbourne and Wirksworth area since February. Contracts to operate the service across the county have now been awarded and will start in October − continuing to take people to supermarkets, shops, banks and medical appointments at hospitals, clinics, the doctors, dentists and opticians.
Councillor Trevor Ainsworth, our Cabinet Support Member for Highways, Transport and Infrastructure, said:
“This is great news for community transport users. We are aware that there have been concerns among some passengers that their services were ending because funding was being withdrawn. This is not the case − funding is being provided in a different way.”
Councillor Ainsworth added:
“We know how important getting out and about is for people to retain their independence and we are clear on our commitment to continue to support the most vulnerable, particularly in rural and isolated communities, ensuring they have the same opportunities as they currently have, to travel to vital services.”
Funding for DAB and aCTive Travel services is currently provided by the council to the county’s six community transport schemes through grants.
Following a legal challenge, which makes it more difficult to provide funding in this way, the new Derbyshire Connect services will be run under contract.
Ashbourne Community Transport, based in Ashbourne, won the contract to provide shopping buses to cover the Derbyshire Dales, High Peak and South Derbyshire.
Community Transport for Town and County (CT4TC), based in Chesterfield and Ripley, will run shopping buses in Amber Valley, Bolsover, Chesterfield, Erewash and North East Derbyshire.
South Derbyshire Community Volunteers Service, based in Swadlincote, will provide journeys to medical appointments in South Derbyshire and in the south of the Derbyshire Dales.
Ashbourne Community Transport, Erewash Community Transport, based in Ilkeston, and Community Transport Swadlincote will run services to healthcare appointments in Amber Valley and Erewash.
And CDGi Training Limited − a specialist healthcare transport provider based in Eckington – will put on aCTive Travel services in Bolsover, Chesterfield and North East Derbyshire.
Bakewell and Eyam Community Transport, based in Bakewell, The Bureau − Glossop’s voluntary and community network – New Mills Volunteer Centre and Voluntary and Community Services Peaks and Dales, based in Ashbourne and Buxton, will take passengers to medical appointments in the High Peak and north Derbyshire Dales.
Like the current DAB and aCTive travel services, the new Derbyshire Connect services will still need to be booked but will continue to run door-to-door with passenger assistants on hand to provide extra assistance, where necessary.
Councillor Ainsworth said:
“These new Derbyshire Connect buses will offer better value for money − around £7 per passenger to run compared to an average £16.57 for the current service − and provide a more customer focused service. Gold Card holders will also be able to travel for free − currently they have to pay − and in the longer term we expect them to develop into more flexible services to meet the needs of a wider range of customers.”

It seems likely that the Parish Council will be asked to comment on the Planning Application at its meeting on Wednesday the 19th of July.
any comments on this proposal should be sent to the Parish Council clerk, Andrew Martin

We have received this from the Parish Council. This one looks to be even closer to the school than the previous mast proposal.
The Parish Council has recently been approached for comments regarding a new proposed mobile phone base station to be located on private land at Brook Close Farm.
Whilst the Parish Council has been approached for comment, we do not have the power to either accept or reject the latest proposal. Likewise, should planning consent be sought from the Peak District National Park then the Parish Council will again be asked to comment but will not be able to make the decision.
The Parish Council’s response will be discussed at the Parish Council at 7.00pm on the 17th May 2017.
There is no financial benefit for the village from this proposal.
The correspondence received can be seen on the Parish Council’s website here

We have received this from Andrew Martin, the Parish Council Clerk –
The Parish Council is grateful for work recently done by the Bowls Club to repair and refurbish the toilets at Parson’s Croft.
In recent times the toilets have been opened only for Bowls matches and on a limited number of special occasions. The Bowls club have serviced them for this level of use on a voluntary basis.
The Parish Council would like to gauge the level of interest in having them open on a more regular basis. In order to do this volunteers and/or money would be needed to have them locked and unlocked and serviced more frequently.
The willingness of the Parish Council to contribute public money for this may be influenced by the level of support for regular opening.
Note that the toilets would remain closed during the winter anyway as there is no heating and the water has to be drained to prevent damage from freezing.
Feedback on any of the following points would be most helpful.
* Would you be interested in seeing the toilets open on a more regular basis?
* Are there any times when you would find this particularly useful?
* Would you be able to provide voluntary support for more regular opening?
* Would you be able to provide financial support for more regular opening?
* Any other comments?
Responses from individuals or organisations would be very welcome. You can either leave comments on the blog or e-mail the Clerk on clerk@parwichparishcouncil.org.uk. clerk@parwichparishcouncil.org.uk
Any comments received will be considered at a future meeting.

New charges for bins and sacks in Derbyshire Dales
Further cuts in central government funding have prompted Derbyshire Dales District Council to charge for replacing waste bins and sacks from 1 April.
But all replacement recycling containers including blue-lid bins, inserts, blue bags, kerbside and kitchen caddies will remain free of charge.
Replacing all bins and containers for free is currently costing Derbyshire Dales Council Tax payers around £38,000 a year. But following a public consultation last year, charges will apply for replacement grey wheeled bins where the bin has gone missing or been damaged. There will also be a nominal charge to replace green-lid bins.
Dales households that use black sacks rather than grey bins for waste disposal will receive a free year’s supply of black sacks in April and May – but it will be the last time free black sacks are delivered. Next year, residents will need to buy their own standard size black sacks. (more…)

We recently received an update from W3Z reporting new areas covered by their relays. Relays are up and running in Biggin and at Rivendale that may provide new broadband options for the western side of our area hopefully including Alsop Moor and possibly Upper Moor.
Also they are holding a public meeting in Bradbourne in January about possible cover to the east of our area which may impact on Ballidon and White Meadows. The meeting is at 6.30pm on Wednesday 11th January at Bradboune Church Hall.
If you have any questions you can get W3Z’s contact details from their website see their website here
Note, if you are getting downloads speeds of 2Mb/s or less via your landline you may be entitled to a grant from Digital Derbyshire towards the cost of alternative broadband sources.

Dales’ residents invited to participate in District Council’s autumn forums
Local residents are being urged to take part in the next round of Area Community Forums to be staged across the Derbyshire Dales this autumn
Hot topics up for discussion include a ‘You Said – We Did’ feedback session, a Good News briefing from Chief Executive Dorcas Bunton, an ‘Efficiencies’ workshop session, an update on recycling issues and a popular Questions & Answers session.
Council Leader Councillor Lewis Rose OBE said: “These forums continue to be important to us in reaching out to local people and listening to what they have to say.
It’s a great opportunity for local people to get involved and we would urge anyone who hasn’t attended a forum before to come along.”
Residents can pick up some handy tips on how to recycle more and there’ll be an update on future waste and recycling issues. There’ll also be an opportunity to take part in The Budget Game where participants will be asked how they would spend the Council’s money and whether they have any suggestions for savings.
The Forums will take place at Wirksworth Memorial Hall on Tuesday 18th October, Parwich Village Hall on Tuesday 25th October and Eyam Church Centre on Tuesday 1st November.
All start at 7 pm and anyone who can’t attend in person can email questions in advance to communityforum@derbyshiredales.gov.uk or via the District Council’s Facebook and Twitter pages @derbyshiredales. The 1st November forum will also feature a live Twitter feed at www.twitter.com/derbyshiredales
A Question Time session will enable audience members to ask questions and make comments and suggestions to the various representatives.
For further details or to be added to our mailing list ring 01629 761302 or email communityforum@derbyshiredales.gov.uk

Although we plan to continue posting information and encouraging discussion here at parwich.org, we also encourage anyone interested to look at the very helpful and well laid out information section on the Parwich Parish Council website
