Message from the Parish Council –
It is heart-warming to see how attractive the village is being kept. Everything from the mowing and Pump Hill in bloom to people picking up the odd bit of litter as they take their walks – it all adds up. Some great examples of people gardening and painting at their own homes too.
The Parish Council is aware that we have not been able to organise a tidying day to tackle some of the bigger jobs – though we are keeping this under review. In the mean time we know that some of you have been tackling jobs individually around the village. This is really appreciated, but we realise you are probably working alone and we do want you to be safe.
If you are working at land or premises managed by the Parish Council please only do so if you are confident that it is safe for you and for others. Not just observing government guidance on Covid-19, but also addressing any other hazards there may be. If you are not sure about this please contact the Parish Clerk for advice.

Church meets tomorrow
Tomorrow we join ‘Thy Kingdom Come’, a worldwide movement committed to prayer over these ten days particularly Along with traditional English hymns, we’ll pray using items you’re likely to have in your home or garden so beforehand you’re invited to gather together:
- a candle you can safely light at home, with matches or a lighter handy
- a clean stone that you can hold, place it within reach
- a mint sweet for each person
- the finger labyrinth in the magazine and a pencil. You will find the labyrinth (along with the words for the service) approximately half way though the parish magazine on the website http://peakfive.org/
- a piece of paper on which to write the names of five people you would especially like to pray for (you can use their initials if you like) and an envelope.
The congregation will be gathering between 1730 and 1800:
- 1730 bring your own tea/coffee & cake for a chat if you wish
- 1800 service starts

Garden waste collections update
Garden waste collections could restart here in the Derbyshire Dales from 1 June if councillors approve recommendations being put to the District Council’s new Emergency Committee this Thursday (21 May).
The 6pm meeting will be broadcast live on our YouTube channel.

Well a holiday hunt! As many of us should be on holiday next week and we don’t really need an excuse to brighten up the village and make us smile how do people fancy creating their own holiday pictures for us all to find . Whether it be a picture of an ice cream 🍦, bucket and spade or an awesome sand castle – the brighter the better. Hunt starting from this Saturday – we can’t wait to see your creations.

The next meeting of Parwich Parish Council will be held on Wednesday the 20th May 2020 at 7:30 pm.
Due to the Covid-19 outbreak legislation been enacted to allow Parish Councils to conduct meetings using video conferencing while it is not possible to meet in person.
The meeting will be conducted using Zoom meetings. The agenda contains login details that can be used by members of the public to join the meeting. You will need to paste the link into your browser.
There is also a telephone number which will enable you to listen to the meeting and speak when permitted.
If you have not used Zoom before you are strongly advised to download their app in advance. This will enable you set it up on your device and familiarise yourself with its operation.

Tomorrow we celebrate Rogation Sunday, the day when the Church traditionally offers prayers for God’s blessings on the fruits of the earth and the labours of those who produce our food. We’ll be doing that using traditional hymns and modern English prayers with photographs of Parwich and the other four villages that comprise our Church of England benefice and a talk by Rev Alan Griggs, an agricultural chaplain and curate in this benefice.

There’s a new Gruffalo trail now up and ready to follow, and it’s aimed at the younger members of our lovely village.
It begins with two sheets on the park near the play equipment, then two on the Green, with the remaining two hiding in the Pump Hill Garden.
There’s a printable check sheet and also the answers below should you need them.

Our new Emergency Committee will meet for the first time next week to discuss measures that need to be put in place to enable garden waste collections to re-start in the district.
Green waste collections have been suspended during the lockdown to enable household waste and recycling collections to be prioritised due to the council’s waste and recycling contractor being impacted by coronavirus-related staffing issues.
Staff resources have been stretched not only by coronavirus shielding and self-isolation, but by social distancing requirements that mean bin crews are having to travel to locations in separate vehicles.
A report to next Thursday’s Emergency Committee – to be published on Monday – is likely to state that garden waste collections can only restart if the council is prepared to contribute towards the cost of additional agency staff.
The meeting will be broadcast live on the District Council’s YouTube channel.

Parking charges to be reintroduced in the Dales
Charges will be reintroduced in Derbyshire Dales District Council’s pay and display car parks this weekend following the Government’s decision to relax coronavirus travel restrictions.
The District Council suspended charges at the start of the lockdown to help local residents to make any essential journeys during the early stages of the crisis.
Charges will apply again from this Saturday after the authority revealed it has lost around £375,000 in car parking revenues since suspending charges at the end of March. But Dales residents can continue to park for free 19 hours every day using their resident parking permit.
A Council spokesperson said: “Suspending charges was a step we wanted to take to help our residents in the first months of the crisis, but the Government’s decision to effectively open up the Dales to day trippers means we have to re-impose controls on our car parks, particularly the short stay car parks in our busy town centres.
“While we are currently appealing to anyone contemplating a trip to the Derbyshire Dales to think twice because of the potential impact on our communities and reduced local services, we have to accept that, like it or not, some people will travel. Indeed some of our car parks have been at capacity over the past two days.
“We hope that residents will understand that while we have done our best to support their essential journeys by making parking free during the lockdown to date, the resulting loss of income will have long term impacts on the Council’s finances and our ability to sustain the services we deliver for local people unless this situation is quickly addressed. Our stance is in accordance with actions being taken by other authorities in response to the Government’s new guidelines.”
While necessary work began today (Thursday) to put up signage and reconfigure the pay and display machines at around 50 car parks across the district, charges will not be enforced until Saturday, giving local people time to readjust.

The Leader of Derbyshire Dales District Council is asking would-be visitors to think twice before making a trip to one of the most beautiful regions in England.
The relaxation by the Government of coronavirus travel guidelines means many people who live both inside and outside the area may be contemplating a trip to the Dales’ visitor hotspots.
But the Council’s Leader Councillor Garry Purdy said: “While I totally understand the temptation to seek some respite from the constraints placed on all of us by the coronavirus crisis, my appeal to anyone considering a trip is not to focus so much on what you can now do but rather what you should do.
“Visiting the Dales right now will undoubtedly create tensions in our communities as well as placing pressure on our roads and emergency services, and, as a former police officer myself, I have a massive amount of sympathy for the policing job now facing the force.
“I am fortunate to represent an area of the Dales that includes Matlock Bath, which is a magnet for tourists at this time of year, but I am asking visitors to respect and protect the residents of Matlock Bath and all of the district’s many honeypot villages by staying away for now.
“We will welcome you back with open arms when this virus is properly under control – our leisure and tourism businesses, most of which continue to be closed, need your support in the long term. But, for now, please don’t put our already limited local services under unnecessary pressure.”

Brent Crude rises to $26 this week as the OPEC+ production cuts come into force, and news that a wave of US shale well closures has begun, resulting in a large fall in shale oil production. However, with a large surplus of global oil stock it doesn’t look like prices will rise significantly just yet.
