First Responders Need Help

Parwich Community First Responders need your help! Many of you will know we have a volunteer team of Community First Responders and we help people in emergencies by getting to them in advance of the professional ambulance crews, which can save lives. To keep us on top of our game, regular training sessions are important, as the ability to practice CPR is crucial.

We’re trying to raise funds from a scheme run by Calor Gas Ltd, which is based on the number of votes received, to buy a new training mannequin and are competing with other worthy causes to get our share of what’s available.

So, we need to have the most votes to get to the funds.

If you’d like to support our appeal, please can you click through on the link below and add your 10 votes that you’ll be allocated – it’d be a great help and hugely appreciated by the Parwich First Responder team. The deadline is Monday 17th June, so please don’t delay.

If you’d like to know more about what the Parwich First Responders do, or have any questions about the life-saving defribulator located at The Sycamore pub, e.g. how to access it, then please call Martin on 390529, who’d be happy to explain it to you.

Escaping Sheep

Thanks to Caroline G for this –

Who owns the field which you walk through passed the toilets and up towards Littewood behind Stubley? There’s a break in the stone wall and several sheep and lambs are climbing over it through to that little hillock. Dogsdil is it called?

Bowls Report

Results this week were a mixed bag, some surprisingly good, others disappointing, but nevertheless you can’t fault Parwich players for their commitment considering the awful weather conditions, particularly on Thursday afternoon – are we ever going to get some decent Spring weather?
Tuesday evening, we were at home to Bakewell; I get the feeling that they don’t really like our green, the gradients and it’s comparatively small size are totally at odds with Bakewell’s long, thin rectangle.  No doubt you can guess that we won easily, 81-57.
Thursday afternoon was the opposite.  We were playing away at Hazlewood (near Duffield) – a beautiful green surrounded by banks of flowers, but very large and very fast even though it was wet.   Once again,we were hampered by being 2 players short,  (come on Parwich!  Surely there must be a few villagers out there who can join the club and keep it going in the future.) and by the fact that Hazlewood are second in the division.  We lost 99-127.
It was great to see Audrey back playing again.  Maybe we can get a full team for next week when we are at home to Hope Works.
We return to Hazlewood on Sunday for a friendly game.  Friendly games are a good introduction to match play if we have any new members – let’s hope we perform better then!

Oil Price Steady

Despite the geopolitical issues with US/China, Iran, Libya and Venezuela, the price of Brent crude has held steady at around $71 a barrel. Kerosene rates have therefore been stable over the last few weeks.

A Good Week All Round

Parwich Crown Green Bowls Club

This week we played 2 away matches, on Tuesday at Whitworth Park and Thursday at Chatsworth.

Tuesday evening, at least for our first two pairs proved to be warm and sunny and the bowls managed to live up to the weather, both games being keenly contested. We finished with a 2 point advantage when scores were totalled, 39-37. Our second two pairs were somewhat hampered by cooler temperatures and failing light (it was the same for the opposition!) but, nevertheless, their matches ended with equal points, 28 each. Some said that they needn’t have bothered playing! But every point counts. We ended up winners by the small margin of 67-65.

Thursday afternoon saw the club playing at Chatsworth, unfortunately, with only 9 players when the ideal number is 12. Chatsworth had won the league last year and, with us, had been promoted to Divsion 1; we were expecting a hard match.

True to past seasons we lost the doubles 47-57 but knew we had the chance to make up the deficit in the 6 singles games. Keith, Tony, Edith and Dawn all played well, the eventual result being 69-52 to Parwich meaning an overall winning score of 116-109.

A good week all round for Parwich.

Readers of this blog may have noticed that Ian J is not playing this season. Currently, he is seriously ill in hospital. Our best wishes go to both him and Iris.

All welcome to this skin care session at the Legion, no booking necessary and no charge.

Tea & Cakes today

Tea & Cakes are being served on today in the churchyard at Alsop en le Dale from 11am – 4pm, Bank Holiday Monday 6th May. Please come along to support this event, in aid of Alsop Church. Stunning views, delicious cakes, not to be missed.

With the warm Spring the wild flowers are well advanced already so why not walk or cycle to Alsop, and if you take any photos en route do share with others through the Blog, send them to parwich@hotmail.co.uk .

More Sheep Out

We have been informed that the ewe and 2 lambs reported as being out on Thursday have now increased to 2 ewes and 4 lambs. Be careful as you leave the village towards the B5056.

Oil Price Down Slightly

imageUpdate for Bradbourne & Parwich Heating Oil Club

Brent oil prices ease slightly to $71.50 today as U.S. inventories increased by more than anticipated, offering evidence that the oil market is not as tight as expected. As a result we have only seen a small fall in kerosene rates this week.

TIP :Have you checked your tank level recently? It is a good idea to make a visual inspection just to confirm your gauge is working correctly. At the same time you can check the condition of tank for any sags and cracks.

Rate:  £0.4690 (pence per litre excluding vat [5% for Domestic use])

As a one off we have been asked the following by Margaret R:

We, Cheadle Animal Welfare, need to find a foster home for a 4 year old Chihuahua who had a Caesarian section yesterday and had 3 puppies. She is doing really well but I’m finding it difficult to find a foster home. Is there is anyone in Parwich who could look after her? Please contact me on 369

Minnie and Baby

Congratulations to Sir Richard, who has been re-elected as our Councillor here in the Dovedale and Parwich ward of Derbyshire Dales District Council

The results were

  • Sandra Fearn (Liberal Democrats) 78 votes
  • Sir Richard FitzHerbert (Conservative) 424 votes
  • Sue Hodgson (Labour) 73 votes

The turn out was low, just under 44%. The Conservatives look set to retain control of the Council, though with a much reduced majority. See the District Council website for the full results.

Polling now open

Derbyshire Dales District Council – Here in the Dovedale & Parwich ward we have three candidates:

  • Sandra Fearn (Liberal Democrat)
  • Sir Richard FitzHertbert (Conservative)
  • Sue Hodgson (Labour)

The six Polling Stations for our ward are listed here, for residents of Parwich we vote in the Memorial Hall, but Alsop vote in Tissington, with voting between 7am to 10pm on Thursday 2nd May.

Historically turnout is low for local elections, but as a Parwich resident said “If you don’t vote you’ve no right to moan“.
